AI visibility for Indian manufacturers and industrial suppliers: the certificate number and its validity date are the citable fact

85.6% of the 10,652 citations we recorded across 597 ChatGPT and Gemini readings on 15 October 2026 went to somebody's own website, and the quality file in your office is the page nobody has typed up.

A purchase officer who needs a grade in a quantity now asks an assistant which Indian suppliers make it, and gets three names with a sentence about each. Those names come off pages somebody published about themselves, and the margin is not close: 85.6% of 10,652 citations in a run of 597 ChatGPT and Gemini readings on 15 October 2026, against 0.8% for review directories. India accounted for 189 of those readings and for two citations of our own site. For an Indian manufacturer or industrial supplier, the asset that produces those three names is a conformity and capability record: every certificate, licence, capacity and approval written out with its number and its validity date, on a page a crawler can reach.

What a portal listing cannot carry

Your IndiaMART, TradeIndia or GeM listing has short structured fields, and that is the right shape for a listing. It cannot carry a certificate number with a certifying body and an expiry date, a machine list with bed sizes and tolerances, or a statement of installed monthly capacity. A buyer who needs those leaves the portal to find them, and whoever published them gets the enquiry.

This is a different job from building a page for every grade and part code you supply, which is the catalogue work and is worked through in SEO for manufacturers in India. The catalogue answers what you make. The record answers whether a committee can buy it from you, and it is one page rather than three hundred.

The record, line by line

What to publishWhat it settles
BIS licence number, or your registration under the Compulsory Registration SchemeWhether your product may legally be sold for its purpose
Every IS standard you manufacture to, with the international equivalent beside itWhether your output matches the drawing on the buyer's desk
ISO 9001 or IATF 16949 certificate number, the certifying body, and the validity dateWhether your quality system will survive a vendor audit
Test facilities in house, and the NABL accredited lab you use for the restWhether a test certificate will come with the consignment
Udyam registration number, and your IEC where you exportWhich procurement route and which preference you qualify for
Plant locations, built up area, installed monthly capacityWhether you can hold the schedule at the quantity asked for
Machine list with capacities, bed sizes and achievable tolerancesWhether the part can be made at all on your floor
Customer approvals and empanelments, namedWhether somebody serious has already audited you

Nothing on that list needs writing. It needs typing, out of certificates and out of the plant head's memory, into one page in text rather than into a PDF nobody can quote. Keep the PDF next to it, and put the same values in an HTML table.

The validity date is what makes it usable

102 of the 102 build spec conversations we ran asked for a date, a last verified and a refresh frequency. For a manufacturer that is not a formality. A certificate with no expiry date on the page is a certificate a purchase committee cannot act on, because the first thing they do is check whether it is still live. Three habits cover it:

  • Put the validity date beside every certificate number, and a "record last verified on" line at the top of the page.
  • Say how often the page is reviewed, and then review it. A quarterly line that is true beats an annual one that is not.
  • When a capacity changes because a machine was added, change the number and change the date. A stale capacity figure is the one an assistant will quote at a buyer who then calls to order it.

Capability is what the buyer filters on, and it is almost never in text

Industrial buyers do not browse. They filter: this tolerance, this material, this monthly volume, this distance from the plant, this payment term. Put the filters into prose so there is something to match against. One sentence of the shape "turning up to a stated maximum diameter and length between centres, in named materials, at a stated tonnage a month, from named plants, with a mill test certificate on every heat" answers six filters at once, once you fill in your own figures. A photograph of the shop floor answers none of them, and most Indian manufacturer sites lead with the photograph. Where industrial enquiries actually come from, and which of the four things sold as lead generation is worth buying, is set out in B2B lead generation services.

Two engines, one date, and no separate reading for manufacturing

Worth stating plainly before anybody quotes a number off this page. The run was ChatGPT and Gemini, nothing else, on 15 October 2026, in the United States, the United Kingdom and India. Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews were absent from it. Our product measures five surfaces; this dataset covers two, and the gap between those two facts is never papered over. Manufacturing was not read as its own industry: the vertical questions were worded generically, which is why the shares here are labelled whole run or market level rather than industry figures. The method is in what AI assistants actually cite across 597 readings, and the India cut, with the Indian domains the engines leaned on, is in Indian sources won the Indian questions.

Start here, with the certificates already in the drawer

  • Collect every certificate, licence and registration the company holds, and note the number, the issuing body and the expiry date.
  • Type them into one page as text, with a last verified date at the top.
  • Add the machine list with capacities and tolerances, and the installed monthly capacity per process.
  • Ask five questions the way a purchase officer would, in ChatGPT and in Gemini, naming no supplier, and record which suppliers came back and what was cited.

Questions Indian manufacturers ask about AI answers

Is it safe to publish our certificate numbers?

They are on the certificate you already send with every quotation, and most of them sit in a public register anyway. Publishing the number with its validity date is how a buyer confirms you without emailing, and it is the difference between a claim and a checkable fact.

We sell only through IndiaMART. Does our own site matter?

It matters for exactly the enquiries worth the most. Fill the portal listing properly, because a buyer who finds you there still becomes your enquiry, and publish the record on your own site, because 85.6% of the citations recorded on 15 October 2026 went to somebody's own website and a listing cannot carry a certificate number or a tolerance chart.

Should we publish capacity if we are running near full?

Publish installed capacity and the lead time you are quoting this month, and update the lead time when it moves. A buyer sizing an order needs the installed figure, and a current lead time is the detail that gets you the enquiry rather than losing it to a supplier who answered the question.

Our products are sold on specification. Do we need any prose at all?

One page of it. The specification pages answer what you make, and the record page answers whether you can be bought from, which is a different question and the one a committee asks. Together they are the whole of the work for most suppliers.

How long before any of this shows up in an answer?

Once the page is crawlable and indexed, fetched answers can start using it within weeks, and narrow technical subjects move faster than broad ones because very few Indian suppliers have published anything on them. Re-run the same five buyer questions monthly so you are reading current data.

The quality file is the content

There is a file in every Indian factory office with the licences, the certificates, the calibration records and the customer approvals in it, kept because an auditor will ask for it. That file is also the most convincing page the company could publish, and it is the one page almost nobody has typed up. Copying it onto the website, with the numbers and the dates intact, is a week of somebody's time and it answers the question a purchase officer now asks a machine before they ask you. A word on our own stake, because 64 of the 102 build specs asked for it in writing: this measurement and the pages behind it are what we sell. AI Knows Us puts the supplier questions for your product category to five assistants and reports the names that come back.
