Google AdSense payment: the calendar, the thresholds, and why a payout is held

The five steps to a first payment, the month by month payment calendar from Google's own help pages, the payment thresholds by currency, and the six reasons a payout does not arrive.

Published by AI Knows Us · Updated 12 October 2026

Google AdSense pays monthly, and the money moves on a fixed calendar. Your estimated earnings for a month are finalised at the start of the following month and posted to your Payments page, and if your balance is above the payment threshold on the 20th, with no holds on the account, Google issues the payment between the 21st and the 26th of that month. For a United States Dollar account the payment threshold is 100 USD. Below that, the balance rolls over and accrues until the threshold is met. Before any of that happens you have to clear three gates once: submit your tax information, verify your identity, and verify your address with the PIN Google posts to you. All figures and dates here are from Google's own AdSense Help pages, checked on 10 October 2026.

This page covers how and when AdSense pays and what delays it. For getting more readers to the pages carrying the ads, see how to increase website traffic.

The five steps to a first payment

Google sets these out in Steps to getting paid, and your own AdSense home page shows which one you are on.

  • Tax information. Depending on where you are, Google may be required to collect tax details, and you can submit them the first time you sign in. Google states that all monetising creators on YouTube must provide tax information regardless of location. The tax information help page covers what to file.
  • Identity verification. Google's threshold page notes that in affected locations the identity verification threshold is now zero, so identity is confirmed before the account shows ads or receives payment. You have 45 days from the date you are first asked to upload the documents.
  • Address verification. Address verification still triggers at 10 USD or the local equivalent. Google posts a PIN to the payment address, by standard post, and says it may take two to three weeks to arrive. You have four months from the date the PIN is generated to enter it. The PIN verification overview covers lost PINs and re-issues.
  • Choose a payment method. There is a separate, lower payment method selection threshold, 10 USD on a dollar account. Options depend on your payment address and include Electronic Funds Transfer, SEPA, wire transfer, cheque, Western Union and PayPal through Hyperwallet.
  • Payment. Once the balance clears the payment threshold with no holds, the payment is issued between the 21st and the 26th.

Do all four of the first steps on the day you are asked rather than when the balance gets close. Almost every complaint about a late AdSense payment is one of these four sitting unfinished.

The payment calendar, month by month

DateWhat happens
Through the monthEstimated earnings accrue and update on your home page
Around the 3rdThe previous month's earnings are finalised and posted to your Payments page, with any adjustments or fees
7th to 12thFinalised YouTube earnings for the previous month are added to the YouTube payments account
On or before the 20thChanges to payment information, including the removal of a hold, must be complete. Changes made after the 20th apply to the next cycle. The balance on the 20th is the balance tested against the threshold
21st to 26thPayment is processed and issued. The exact day depends on your timezone, whether the 21st falls on a weekend or holiday, and your payment method

Google's own worked example, on the payment timelines page, runs like this: earnings accrue through June, the finalised June total appears on the Payments page by 3 July, and the payment for June is issued on or around 21 July as one lump sum.

Payment thresholds by currency

Thresholds are set by the reporting currency on the account, and each payments account inside AdSense, including a separate YouTube payments account, has its own. These are the values on Google's payment thresholds page on 10 October 2026.

CurrencyPayment method selectionPayment threshold
USD10100
GBP1060
EUR1070
AUD15100
CAD10100
SGD15150
CHF10100
ZAR1001000
JPY10008000

Two things follow from the table. You can select a payment method long before you can be paid, so do it early. And you may raise your own threshold if you would rather be paid in larger, less frequent amounts, which suits anyone whose bank charges per incoming transfer.

Why a payment did not arrive

  • The balance was below the threshold on the 20th. It rolls over and accrues. Nothing is lost.
  • A verification step is open. Identity not confirmed, or the PIN never entered. Both block payment even with a large balance.
  • Tax information is missing or stale. Forms expire and need resubmitting.
  • A payment hold is on the account. Holds come from unfinished personal information, policy issues, or a self applied temporary hold. Clear it on or before the 20th to be paid that month.
  • Bank details do not match the payee name. A transfer that is rejected comes back to your balance and is reissued the following cycle, so correct the details and wait one month.
  • Separate accounts, separate thresholds. If AdSense and YouTube sit in separate payments accounts, each must cross its own threshold to pay out. Two balances of half the threshold do not combine.

Reading the numbers correctly

Estimated earnings and finalised earnings are different figures, and the gap between them is normal. Estimated earnings update through the month and are the number you watch day to day. Finalised earnings appear at the start of the next month after Google removes invalid traffic and applies adjustments, and that is the number that becomes your balance. Judge a month by the finalised figure, and judge a page by the finalised figure divided by its sessions, so you are comparing revenue per visit rather than raw totals that follow traffic.

If you cancel the account, Google says that where the balance is above the cancellation threshold, 10 USD on a dollar account, the final payment arrives within approximately 90 days of the end of the month, provided the steps above are complete.

What actually moves AdSense revenue

Payment mechanics are fixed; revenue is not. Three things move it, in this order. Traffic to pages with commercial intent, because advertiser demand follows the topic rather than the pageview. Layout, because viewable placements near content earn more than a wall of units that pushes the article down. And page speed, because an ad that loads after the reader has gone is not an impression. Write the pages people search for, then tune placement on your five highest earning pages only. The workflow from query to published page and diagnosing which traffic channel is broken cover the first of the three.

The Google AdSense payment questions worth an answer

When does AdSense pay each month?

Between the 21st and the 26th, for the previous month's finalised earnings, as long as the balance was above the payment threshold on the 20th and there are no holds. The exact day varies with your timezone, weekends and holidays, and your payment method.

What is the AdSense payment threshold?

100 USD on a United States Dollar account, with different values per currency, for example 60 GBP and 70 EUR. Google lists every currency on its payment thresholds page, and you can raise your own threshold in the account if you prefer fewer, larger payments.

How long does the AdSense PIN take to arrive?

Google sends it by standard post and says it may take two to three weeks. You have four months from the date it is generated to enter it, and the help pages cover requesting a replacement if it does not arrive.

Why is my AdSense balance not being paid out?

Check four things in order: is the balance above the threshold, is identity verified, is the PIN entered, and is tax information current. One of those four explains almost every held balance, and each is fixed inside the account.

Do AdSense and YouTube earnings combine?

Only when they sit in the same payments account. Where they are separate, each account verifies once but each has to reach its own payment threshold to be paid, and YouTube's finalised earnings for the previous month land between the 7th and the 12th.

Can I change the currency my AdSense account pays in?

The reporting currency is set when the payments profile is created, and Google's payment settings help section covers what can be changed afterwards. Because the currency also sets your thresholds, choose the one your bank receives without a conversion fee.

Readers who arrive as an answer

AdSense pays on the readers who arrive. A growing share of readers describe what they want to ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude or Google's AI Overviews and get a short answer with few links, so the same question brings fewer visits than it did. Pick your five highest earning pages, ask each page's question in an assistant, and check whether your site is among the sources cited. Stating facts plainly, with a date and a named source, gives a page more to be cited for. AI Knows Us lists the sources assistants cite for a business.
