Marketing agency in Bangalore: the city quotes demand generation by default, so say what you are buying

Four quite different purchases arrive as one enquiry in Bengaluru. Here is how to tell them apart, match one to what you sell, price it, and start with a pilot instead of a retainer.

Ask for a marketing agency in Bangalore and the market will usually quote you demand generation: a monthly fee, paid search and paid social, a pipeline number and a dashboard. That is because the city is full of software and venture funded companies and the supplier pool grew up serving them. If you are one of those companies, the default is a good fit. If you run a jewellery chain in Jayanagar, a hospital in Whitefield, a school group or a components plant in Peenya, you are being sold a model built for somebody else, and the first job is to say which of four quite different purchases you actually want.

The four purchases hiding behind one enquiry

  • Demand generation. Paid media, landing pages, lifecycle email, a cost per qualified lead and a weekly reporting rhythm. Bought as a monthly retainer. Bengaluru has more of this capability than any other Indian city.
  • Brand and category work. Positioning, naming, identity, packaging, a campaign idea. Bought as a project with a defined deliverable list, usually once every few years.
  • Reach in the physical city. Outdoor on the Outer Ring Road, metro and bus media, mall and apartment activations, regional press and Kannada radio. Bought per campaign through a media or activation shop.
  • Making things properly. Photography, catalogues, a website that loads, store and clinic signage, video for a feed. Bought per deliverable from a studio.

Our page on advertising agencies in Bangalore goes deeper into how the creative, media and performance shops differ and how each gets paid. The point of this page is the step before that: picking which of the four you are buying in the first place.

The option Bengaluru does unusually well

Between hiring an agency and hiring a full time marketing head, this city has an unusually deep bench of senior people available part time: former marketing leads who will take two or three days a month, set the plan, write the brief and supervise whichever suppliers do the work. For a company spending between one and five lakh a month on marketing, this is frequently the highest return rupee on the list, because the common failure in Bengaluru is not weak execution. It is three capable suppliers all working to a brief nobody wrote.

Two signals that you need this rather than another agency: you have changed agencies twice and the problem persisted, or you cannot say in one sentence what the marketing is supposed to achieve this quarter.

What the four purchases cost here

The figures below are my reading of what Bengaluru shops quote, offered as a sanity check rather than as a benchmark to argue from.

  • Demand generation retainer: roughly INR 75,000 to 4,00,000 a month, depending on the number of channels and how much creative volume is included.
  • Brand work and identity: roughly INR 1,50,000 to 8,00,000, driven by how many applications the mark has to carry.
  • Studio work per deliverable: a product shoot from about INR 25,000 a day, a working website from about INR 1,00,000, a short film for a feed from about INR 60,000.
  • Senior part time marketing help: roughly INR 50,000 to 1,50,000 a month for two or three days.
  • Media and activation: priced per campaign, with a service fee on top of the media cost that is worth asking to see separately.

On tax, these services attract GST at 18 percent, so add that to every number above. A withholding deduction on the professional fee applies too, and which one fits depends on the supplier you are paying, so take it from your accountant rather than from the agency. If you want the same money mapped against four spend levels rather than four categories, our page on digital marketing in Bangalore at four budgets does that.

Buy a pilot, then a retainer

A twelve month retainer signed in the first meeting is the most expensive mistake available in this market. Structure the first engagement as an eight to twelve week pilot with three named outputs and one number to move. Pay for it properly, because a cheap pilot gets junior attention. Put a review date in the agreement and the conditions under which it converts to a retainer.

One Bengaluru specific caution. You will be offered equity or a revenue share instead of a fee, sometimes by good firms. It can work, and it changes the relationship: the agency now has a view on your pricing, your product and your roadmap. Decide whether you want that before you accept a discount for it.

Marketing agency or growth team in Bangalore: answers to the common mix ups

Is a growth agency in Bangalore the same thing as a marketing agency?

Not quite. A growth agency normally means paid acquisition, conversion and analytics against a funnel number. A marketing agency may carry brand, media and research as well. Compare the two on the deliverable list, because that list is the contract and the label is only a signboard.

Can a Bangalore marketing company handle offline work as well as digital?

Some do, and a straight question settles it: ask who last bought outdoor or ran an activation for them and when. Many of the digital first shops in Koramangala and HSR Layout place offline work with a partner, which is perfectly fine as long as you can see the mark up.

Do I need Kannada in a Bengaluru campaign?

For a business selling to the city itself, including retail, healthcare, services and property, Kannada earns its place and should be written rather than translated. For software sold to buyers in other countries, it does not come up at all.

How many people should actually be on my account?

Ask for names and seats, not a team slide. A small retainer honestly staffed is one strategist part time, one person doing the work daily and one designer shared. If a shop describes six people on a one lakh retainer, ask how many hours each of them is booked for.

Should a startup in Bangalore hire an agency or a first marketing employee?

Hire the employee when the work is continuous, needs product knowledge and involves talking to customers. Use an agency when you need a specific skill in bursts, such as paid media or a brand project. Most companies at this stage end up with one employee and one specialist supplier, and that combination works.

What should a Bengaluru marketing agency contract cover?

Scope as a list with volumes, your ownership of all ad accounts and analytics, assignment of intellectual property on payment with source files, a thirty day exit and a handover list, plus the reporting cadence. If creator or media money passes through the agency, say that it is billed at actuals with vendor bills attached.

The same wrong routing, now at machine speed

The routing problem at the top of this page now has a faster version. A retail chain, a hospital group or a school in Bengaluru describes itself to ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity and asks who should handle its marketing, and the reply leans the same way the market does: growth, performance, a dashboard. Which firms get named when the brief is a trade marketing programme, a regional retail launch or an activation calendar is a different question with a different answer, and most shops in this city have never asked it about themselves. AI Knows Us puts those questions to the assistants on your behalf and shows which sources each answer came from.
