SEO in Bangalore for a local business: the consultant route, the local pack, and what a retainer should cost

Written for the clinic, school, showroom, restaurant and services firm in Bangalore rather than the product company, with fees, the freelancer option and the checks that matter.

If you run a business that serves Bangalore itself, a dental practice in Indiranagar, a pre school in HSR Layout, a furniture showroom on Old Airport Road, an interior firm in Whitefield, the SEO you need is not what the city's software companies buy. You need to appear in the map results and the local pack for people searching within a few kilometres of you, and that work is cheaper and faster than it sounds. A capable Bangalore consultant will do it for INR 15,000 to 35,000 a month, an agency for INR 30,000 to 75,000, and the first two months matter more than the next ten.

Bangalore has two separate SEO markets wearing the same name. One sells to product and software companies and is really technical and content strategy at scale; if that is you, our page on scoping technical SEO with an engineering team is the right one to read. This page is the other market.

The work that actually moves a Bangalore local business

In rough order of return for the money, for a business with one or a few locations in the city.

  • Google Business Profile, properly done. Right primary category, every service listed, real photographs taken this year, opening hours that are true, and the questions section answered by you rather than by strangers. Most Bangalore profiles are set up once and abandoned. Fixing one is a few hours of work and it often changes enquiry volume on its own.
  • Reviews, requested systematically. A simple message sent after every job, with a direct review link. Volume and recency both count. Never buy reviews; it is detectable, and in a city where your competitors will report you, it is a poor bet.
  • One page per locality you genuinely serve. If you have clinics in Jayanagar and Koramangala, that is two profiles and two pages with real detail, parking, landmarks, the doctors who sit there. A single page listing both addresses competes with itself.
  • The site loading fast on a mid range phone. Most of your traffic is mobile on a data connection. A heavy homepage carousel costs you more enquiries than any keyword choice.
  • Pages that answer what people type. Cost, timelines, whether you take insurance, which areas you cover. Searchers in this city are specific and they compare.

The consultant route, which Bangalore does unusually well

Because so many people here have worked in agencies and in product marketing, the city has a deep bench of independent consultants and freelancers taking three or four clients directly. For a local business this is often the better purchase. You get an experienced person instead of a junior executive on an agency's smallest account, and you pay less. Typical shapes:

EngagementRough feeWhat it is for
One off setup and fix, four to six weeksINR 25,000 to 60,000 totalProfile, reviews flow, tracking, the six pages that matter, a prioritised list for your developer
Monthly consultant retainerINR 15,000 to 35,000Ongoing pages, profile upkeep, monthly review with you, keeping an eye on Search Console
Hourly advisoryINR 2,000 to 6,000 an hourReviewing someone else's work, training your own marketing person, a second opinion on a proposal
Small agency retainerINR 30,000 to 75,000When you need a writer, a designer and a developer at once, or several locations

Those figures are a working read of what Bangalore providers publish and of how independent work is priced here, not a survey of signed contracts. GST at 18 percent sits on top, and a GST registered consultant is usually the cheaper option in practice because you can claim that as input credit.

What to ask in the first conversation

Five questions, and the quality of the answers separates the field quickly.

  • Open my Google Business Profile now and tell me what is wrong with it. A good consultant will find three things in two minutes.
  • Which localities should I have pages for, and which should I not bother with? A specific answer means they have thought about your catchment.
  • What will you change on my website in the first month, and who makes the change, you or my developer?
  • How will we know it worked? Calls, form fills, direction requests and WhatsApp enquiries, counted. Not keyword positions.
  • What do you want from me each month? An honest answer includes your time, photographs, and somebody to approve copy.

Treat a promised position on Google as a reason to end the call. It is the most reliable signal of a sales led shop, and Google's own guidance says plainly that nobody can promise it.

Do you need a Bangalore based provider

For the work itself, no. The index is not local and almost all of it is done remotely. There are two real exceptions. If somebody needs to visit your premises to photograph it properly, local helps and the photography is worth paying for separately. And if you want monthly meetings in person, Bangalore traffic makes proximity a genuine consideration, so a provider in your part of the city, HSR, Koramangala, Indiranagar, Whitefield or Yelahanka, saves you more time than it sounds.

Language is worth one decision rather than a project. Most Bangalore searching is in English, including by Kannada speakers, so English pages carry the weight. Where Kannada earns its place is on your Google Business Profile description, in review replies, and in short video. Machine translated Kannada pages read badly to the people you want, so either pay somebody to write them or leave them out.

A sensible first commitment

Buy a fixed six week project first, not a twelve month retainer. The project should end with your Google Business Profile corrected, review requests going out automatically, call and form tracking working, the six highest intent pages written or rewritten, and a short prioritised list of technical items for whoever maintains your site. Then decide whether you need a retainer at all. A fair number of single location Bangalore businesses do not; they need the setup done once and an hour a month afterwards. If you do continue, make it six months, because that is roughly when content and authority work starts showing in enquiries, and put a ninety day checkpoint with named deliverables in the agreement.

SEO in Bangalore for a local business: the questions owners here ask

Can I just do this myself?

The Google Business Profile, the photographs and the review requests, yes, and you should, because you know your business better than any agency. Where you will want help is the website, the tracking setup and knowing which pages are worth writing. A few hours of paid advice plus your own effort is the best value option for a small Bangalore business.

How do I pick between a freelancer and an agency?

Count the skills your plan needs. If it needs writing and a profile managed, one good person is enough. If it needs a developer, a designer and a writer in the same month, an agency is simpler than coordinating three freelancers yourself.

What is a fair fee for a single clinic or studio?

INR 15,000 to 30,000 a month once the setup is done, and the setup itself as a one off project. Above that you are buying capacity you do not yet have the catchment to use.

Why do Bangalore agency quotes vary so much for the same brief?

Because the city's supply includes firms built around software clients, where the fee reflects technical and strategy depth you will not use. Ask every quote how many hours of whose time it buys, and the spread explains itself.

My competitors appear above me on the map. Why?

Usually proximity to the searcher, which you cannot change, plus category and review signals, which you can. Check that your primary category is the exact one, not a close relative, and compare your review count and recency against the three businesses above you.

Ask the question your next customer is asking

Something has changed in how people in this city look for a dentist, a tutor or an interior firm. A lot of them now ask ChatGPT or Gemini and get three or four names with a line each, and that answer is drawn from what has been published about those businesses rather than from the map. Try it on your own category in your own locality and see who is named. If it is not you, the reason is usually that nothing published about you is specific enough to quote, which is a fixable problem and the one AI Knows Us works on.
