Zoho Marketing Automation: what it does, how it is priced, and how it differs from Zoho Campaigns

The modules, the contact based pricing, the plan limits, and what to build in the first thirty days.

Zoho Marketing Automation is Zoho's multichannel lead nurture platform. It captures leads through forms, pop-ups, landing pages and social posts, scores them on how they engage with your campaigns and your website, runs automated journeys across email, SMS, WhatsApp and social, and reports lead attribution through to paying customers. It connects to Zoho CRM so that sales receive the leads that are ready rather than every address you collected. Pricing runs on three plans, Standard, Professional and Enterprise, with the actual price set by how many marketing contacts you hold.

It sits at the point where most small marketing teams get stuck: plenty of email addresses, no system that reacts to what people do, and no way to tell which campaign produced the deal. That is the problem this category of product exists to solve.

What is in it

  • Lead capture. Sign-up forms, pop-ups, landing pages and social posts feeding one contact database.
  • Journeys. Automated sequences that branch on behaviour, so somebody who opened the pricing page gets a different next message from somebody who read one blog post.
  • Multichannel sending. Email, SMS, WhatsApp and social from the same journey rather than from separate tools.
  • Lead scoring. Points for campaign engagement and for website activity, with a threshold at which a lead is handed to sales.
  • Marketing planner. One calendar across campaigns, which is what stops two teams emailing the same list in the same week.
  • Ecommerce triggers. Post purchase follow ups, abandoned cart messages and offers for connected stores.
  • Consent handling. Double opt-in and consent management for GDPR obligations.
  • Attribution and dashboards. A lead attribution model and reporting that joins campaigns to qualified leads and to closed business.

How it is priced

Zoho publishes the structure on its pricing page and the figure appears once you choose a contact count, in your own currency. Checked on 9 October 2026, this is the shape of it:

PlanUsers includedWebsite visitors included
Standard10Two times your contact count
Professional15Five times your contact count
Enterprise25Ten times your contact count
  • Contacts drive the price. The slider runs from 1,000 to 500,000 marketing contacts, and above that Zoho asks you to contact its sales team.
  • Billing is quoted per month on an annual basis, with currencies including US dollars, rupees, euros and pounds.
  • The trial is 14 days with no card required, and includes 10 users, 5,000 website visitors and 2,000 marketing contacts. Your trial data carries over when you subscribe.
  • There is no permanent free plan on this product, which is the main practical difference from Zoho Campaigns.

The website visitor allowance is the limit people trip over, not the contact count. A site with real traffic can burn through a Standard allowance quickly, so check your current monthly visitors before you choose a plan.

Both connect to Zoho CRM. Start with Campaigns if your need is sending, and move to Marketing Automation when the question has become which of these people is worth a call. For the surrounding decision, see marketing CRM.

What to build in the first thirty days

  1. Get the tracking code on every page and confirm the website visitor data is arriving. Nothing else in the product works without it.
  2. Import one clean list, with consent recorded, and leave the rest out until it is cleaned. A bad import is the most expensive mistake available here.
  3. Build two journeys only. A welcome sequence for new subscribers, and a follow up for people who visited a pricing or service page without enquiring. Those two carry most of the value.
  4. Write the lead scoring rules down on paper first, then build them. Points for a pricing page visit, a form submission, an email reply; points removed for inactivity.
  5. Agree the handover threshold with sales and what happens when a lead crosses it, including who calls and within how long.
  6. Set up one dashboard showing leads by source, leads that crossed the threshold, and deals attributed back to campaigns.

The settings that decide whether it works

  • Double opt-in on public forms. It costs you a share of sign-ups and protects deliverability, which is worth far more.
  • A real sending domain, authenticated. Set up the sending domain records properly before the first campaign. See email deliverability.
  • Suppression lists maintained, including unsubscribes, bounces and current customers who should not get prospect messages.
  • One attribution model, chosen and documented. Changing it mid quarter makes every earlier report unreadable.
  • Frequency caps across journeys, so somebody in three sequences does not get three emails on Tuesday.

Asked and answered: Zoho Marketing Automation

Does Zoho Marketing Automation replace Zoho CRM?

No. The CRM holds the sales relationship and the pipeline. Marketing Automation holds the pre sales behaviour and the nurture, and passes leads across when they qualify. Most teams run both and connect them.

Is there a free version?

There is a 14 day trial with no card required. For a permanently free starting point inside the Zoho family, Zoho Campaigns publishes a free plan for a limited list size and monthly send volume.

What counts as a marketing contact?

The contacts in your marketing database, which is the number the pricing slider uses. Clean your list before you buy, because you pay for every address whether you mail it or not.

Can I use it without Zoho CRM?

Yes. It runs on its own, and it also integrates with other applications. The attribution reporting is most useful when deal outcomes come back from a CRM, so plan that connection even if you start without it.

How long does implementation take?

Allow two to four weeks to get tracking, one clean list, two journeys and a dashboard live. Teams that try to migrate every historical list and every old campaign in the first month take far longer and launch with worse data.

What should I measure in the first quarter?

Leads captured by source, the share that crossed the scoring threshold, the speed of the sales follow up after handover, and deals attributed to campaigns. The follow up speed is usually where the biggest gain hides.

The channel with no campaign in your dashboard

Zoho Marketing Automation shows email, forms, journeys and scoring. Nothing in it records the buyer who first asked an assistant "which tool suits a small team?" and arrived later as a contact you think came from nowhere. That first conversation is a channel with no campaign attached.

Add a field to your lead form: "how did you first hear of us?", with an option for an assistant. Then ask the same question yourself. AI Knows Us tracks which businesses the assistants name, and gives that first touch a number.
