Best affiliate management software compared: recruiting, approvals and payouts, not just tracking

Tracking is solved. The work that eats the week is recruiting partners, approving them, chasing the quiet ones and paying everybody. Here is which vendors publish real answers for that half of the job.

Affiliate tracking is a commodity. Every vendor attributes an order. The part that actually consumes a person's week is the partner lifecycle: finding partners, approving or refusing them, keeping the good ones active, catching the ones gaming the rules, and paying two hundred people reliably. That is what management software is for, and it is where the vendors genuinely differ.

Recruiting: the only part you cannot do with a spreadsheet

Two published routes exist. A marketplace inside the tool, where partners find you. Refersion publishes a free tier that is exactly this at refersion.com/pricing, read 21 October 2026: a public listing in the Refersion Marketplace where you publish a percent of sale offer and affiliates can view and apply, at no monthly cost. For a brand testing whether anybody wants to promote it, that is the cheapest experiment in the category. PartnerStack publishes marketplace access on its entry tier at partnerstack.com/pricing and describes itself as built for business to business partner programmes, spanning affiliates, business to business influencers and co selling.

A network's publisher pool, which is the other route. Awin describes a directory of 30,000+ brands on the publisher side at awin.com/us/publishers, which is the same pool seen from the partner's end. Impact sells partner recommendations as a named feature on its tiers at impact.com/pricing.

Approvals, rules and policing

This is where a programme is protected or lost. Four controls to require. Manual approval with a reason field, so refusals are consistent. Fraud and spam detection on signups and referrals, which UpPromote publishes as a named feature on its entry tier at uppromote.com/pricing. A coupon leak control, because a partner posting your code on a deals site converts customers you already had; UpPromote publishes an anti leak discount feature on a higher tier. And a delay before orders are approved, so refunds land before payouts do, which UpPromote also publishes as a setting.

Post Affiliate Pro publishes fraud protection on its entry tier at postaffiliatepro.com/pricing alongside its metered unit of 10,000 tracking requests a month at $89, which is the cheapest published route to a self hosted style programme with these controls.

Activation: the number nobody measures and everybody should

Most programmes have hundreds of signed up partners and a dozen producing sales. The useful metric is the share of approved partners who produced a first sale within sixty days, and the software should let you see it per cohort. Features that move it are mundane: a decent partner portal showing their own numbers, ready made creative, tiered commission for volume, and a bonus for a first sale. UpPromote publishes several of these as named features including store credit payment, gift and bonus, and top affiliate analytics. Tapfiliate publishes sales goals and bonus systems on its higher tier at tapfiliate.com/pricing.

Paying everybody, which is where programmes actually break

Manual payouts scale to about thirty partners. After that you want automation and tax paperwork. Tapfiliate publishes automated affiliate payouts through a named payments provider. UpPromote publishes automatic payout with PayPal and with store credit. FirstPromoter, at firstpromoter.com/pricing, publishes coupon codes created and synced in Stripe automatically, which matters for subscription businesses where the commission has to follow a renewal. Impact publishes its model as included monthly partner payout volume per tier, which makes payouts the unit rather than a feature.

The ranking, on what each vendor publishes about the management half

On the disclosure criterion, which is what a buyer can verify before a call about recruiting, policing and paying: UpPromote first, because it publishes the most named management features against each tier along with the metered unit of reviewed referral orders a month and a performance fee that falls as the tier rises. Refersion second, for publishing a genuinely free marketplace listing route to recruitment. Post Affiliate Pro third, for publishing fraud protection and the integration counts at a known entry price. Tapfiliate and FirstPromoter next, both publishing payout automation and specific commission logic. Impact and PartnerStack last on this criterion, because the management capability is strong and the commercials are partly or wholly behind a call. Disclosure is what is ranked, not quality.

The partner conversation this software does not cover

All of the above manages people who agreed to promote you. It says nothing about the moment when nobody is promoting anything and a buyer simply asks an assistant who to buy from. The answer names two or three businesses in a paragraph and cites sources the reader rarely opens, so no partner, link or code is involved and your management dashboard stays empty.

The platforms next to you sell against that already: Impact lists "AI Search Visibility" among its named add ons, PartnerStack carries "Answer Engine Optimization: turn every AI answer into revenue" in its own navigation, and Later sells Creator AEO at later.com/creator-aeo, stating "Less than 10% of what AI says about your brand comes from content you own". All read 21 October 2026.

AI Knows Us does that measurement and nothing in the partner lifecycle. We recruit nobody, approve nobody and pay nobody, so this sits beside your affiliate software rather than replacing part of it. We put buyer questions that never name your business to ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews, report which businesses the answers named instead of you, and run the content and placement work that changes who gets named. Every rate is reported with a 95 percent Wilson interval, so a small move is called noise until it beats the interval.

On this page's own criterion we publish the lot: plain text at aiknowsus.com/llms.txt and six currencies at aiknowsus.com/pricing, read 21 October 2026. The United States floor is $149 for SEO Start, which watches 0 buyer questions, holds 0 credits and reads 0 engines. Growth at $299 is the cheapest plan reading all five surfaces, with 100 buyer questions and 1,200 scheduled answers a month. Agency at $1,299 covers 10 businesses with 12,300 credits, where every other plan covers one. That puts us first among the measurement vendors on published tier limits, and behind Ahrefs Brand Radar on surface count, seven to our five, at ahrefs.com/brand-radar.

Before buying management software it is worth knowing what your buyers ask before they choose at all, because the same questions decide which partners are worth recruiting. We keep a separate page on the 100 questions software buyers ask before choosing, their frequency and a reproducible method. No other page on this site links to that one, measured on 21 October 2026 across the 2,227 stored bodies that cover our 2,141 live pages, of which 939, or 43.9 percent, carry no inbound link at all. That share is an upper bound, because a link from a page whose body we cannot read is invisible to the count.

What programme managers ask about affiliate management software

Is a marketplace worth it for recruitment? As a first test, yes, and a free listing tier makes it almost costless. Marketplaces bring volume and your approval rules decide the quality.

How many partners should I approve? Fewer than apply. Approving everybody makes activation rate meaningless and brings coupon leakage with it.

What is the single best feature for activation? A partner portal where they can see their own numbers in real time. Partners who can see progress keep posting; partners who cannot go quiet.
