Best AI content marketing tools, the four product classes behind one search
Drafting, optimisation scoring, workflow and AI answer visibility are four different purchases sold under one phrase, with the limits each vendor published on 21 October 2026.

There is no single best AI content marketing tool, because four different products are sold under that phrase and they do not compete with each other. One drafts copy. One scores a draft against what already ranks. One runs the calendar, the briefs and the approvals. One reports whether AI assistants name your business when a buyer asks. Decide which of the four you are short of, then compare only inside that class. Buying the wrong class is the most common way money disappears in this market, because every one of them demos well.
The four classes, and the sentence that tells them apart
| Class | What it does | Buy it when |
|---|---|---|
| Drafting | Turns a brief, a transcript or a product page into copy, in a voice you configure | Writers exist but output is the bottleneck |
| Optimisation scoring | Scores a draft against the pages currently ranking and builds briefs from results | You publish steadily and the pages do not rank |
| Workflow and planning | Calendar, briefs, review stages, publishing, reporting per piece | Approvals and versions are costing you days |
| AI answer visibility | Reads what assistants answer for buyer questions and names the sources behind each answer | You need to know whether any of the above is reaching an assistant |
If it is the first class you need, the three kinds of drafting tool and the jobs they genuinely do well are covered in AI copywriter tools, what they do well and where a person still writes. If it is the second, we have ranked those vendors on whether each one says where its score comes from in SEO content writing tools compared.
What each class publishes as its limit, read on 21 October 2026
Feature lists are interchangeable in this market and published allowances are not. Each of these was read on the vendor's own page on that date, and quoted as limits rather than prices, because a price fetched from one country is not reliably the price an American buyer is shown.
- Jasper meters brand configuration rather than words: one tier publishes 2 brand voices, 5 knowledge assets and 3 audiences, and its Business tier publishes unlimited brand voices, knowledge and audiences with API access, at custom pricing. The same page offers to measure how a brand performs across every major AI answer engine, which puts a drafting vendor in the fourth class too.
- Clearscope meters report credits per subscription period, and puts single sign on, crawler whitelisting and custom credit volumes on its Custom tier.
- Surfer publishes document allowances for its writing product and, separately, an AI search product whose published limits are 50 AI prompts refreshed daily with 5 brand spaces on one tier, and 25 AI prompts refreshed weekly on another. It also offers a free AI visibility audit.
- Ahrefs Brand Radar publishes the arithmetic rather than the allowance: each prompt is checked daily on every selected platform, 5 prompts on 1 platform works out at 150 checks a month, and a Claude check consumes 8 of them. Its platform list on the same page names ChatGPT, AI Overviews, AI Mode, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot and Claude.
- Profound publishes up to 9 answer engines tracked on its top plan, with SSO, SAML and SOC 2 compliance, and prints single sign on as unavailable on the tiers below it.
- HubSpot lists answer engine optimisation tools as a separate product entry, in beta, described as tracking and improving a brand's visibility in AI results.
Two patterns are worth noticing. Vendors in the first three classes are all adding the fourth as a feature, and the heavier models cost more to read: Ahrefs charges 8 checks for a Claude update, and our own published rate is 3 credits for a Claude check against 1 for the others. A vendor that does not say which engine costs what has not told you what the allowance buys.
The four questions that decide a class four purchase
- Which engines are read? Count them by name. Five surfaces and nine surfaces are different products.
- How many buyer questions are watched, and how often do they refresh? Daily on fifty questions and weekly on three hundred are different answers to different problems.
- What is the headline number computed from? A score with an undisclosed input cannot be argued with in a meeting, which is the opposite of what reporting is for.
- Does the tool name the sources behind each answer? Knowing you were not named is a result. Knowing which three pages the assistant used instead is a piece of work you can do something about.
Where we rank, and on what criterion
AI Knows Us sits in the fourth class only. We do not draft your copy, score your drafts or run your calendar, so on the first three classes above the right purchase is somebody else's and the vendors are named above. Inside the fourth class, ranked on one criterion applied to everybody including us, which is what a vendor publishes that a buyer can check for themselves, we put ourselves first and show the working: the question bank, the engines each reading used, the rule that a buyer question never names the business being measured, the raw exports behind our own claims, and our failures, including the readings where we were not cited at all. Our published US ladder is on our own llms.txt and our pricing page renders every currency we sell in, so the allowance is checkable before a call: SEO Start at 149 dollars watches 0 buyer questions on 0 engines and is a demand harvest tier, and Growth at 299 dollars is the cheapest plan that reads all five surfaces, with 100 watched questions and 1,200 scheduled answers a month. A free scan on your own domain needs no account.
Where rivals beat us, by name. Profound publishes 9 answer engines against our 5, and SSO, SAML and SOC 2 compliance, none of which appears anywhere in our rendered pricing text, which also carries no white label and no ISO claim. Surfer publishes a daily refresh cadence on a named prompt count, where our pricing publishes a credit allowance and a weekly priority cadence instead. Ahrefs publishes per check arithmetic that lets a buyer calculate the cost of one platform before buying. And our own pricing page contradicts itself on the agency question, which we would rather report than tidy: the Agency plan is described as covering 10 client brands, while the comparison table's row for more than one business reads No for every plan including Agency. Both of those render on the same page today.
Choosing in an afternoon
- Write the bottleneck in one sentence. The sentence names the class.
- Shortlist three vendors inside that class and ignore the fourth class features bundled into them.
- Run the free tier or trial on one real piece of work, not a sample.
- Ask each vendor, in writing, what its headline number is computed from and which engines it reads.
- Price the plan you will need in a year, with the seats and the volume you will have then.
Questions about AI content marketing tools
Is one tool enough, or do I need one from each class?
Most teams need two: something to produce work faster, and something to tell them whether it is reaching readers. Buy them in that order, and only add a third when a specific job is being done badly.
Do these tools replace a writer?
They replace the blank page, the reformatting and the fifth variant of a line that already works. The argument, the facts and anything a reader would notice as wrong still need a person, which is also why brand voice configuration is the limit most vendors meter.
Will an AI visibility tool improve my ranking in Google?
It is a different measurement. The two overlap, because both rest on your pages, and they are reported separately for a reason. Keep the SEO tool for the first and a class four tool for the second.
Why do vendors charge more for a Claude check?
Heavier models cost more to run, so a check against them consumes more of your allowance. Ahrefs publishes 8 checks for a Claude update and our own rate is 3 credits against 1, which is the kind of detail worth asking about before you compare two allowances.
Should I buy the AI visibility feature bundled into my writing tool?
It is cheaper and it is one fewer invoice. A separate reading is easier to defend internally, because the vendor producing the content is not also marking it. Decide on the four questions above rather than on the bundle.
The one output of these tools nobody configures
Every class above produces or grades something you publish deliberately. The description of your company that most new buyers meet first is not published by you at all: an assistant assembles it from whatever it can reach, including a page you retired, a partner's summary and a review site, and no brand voice setting touches it. Reading that description, and the pages behind it, is the job none of the first three classes was built for. We publish our own gaps on the same principle we ask of vendors: counting durable inbound links across 2,587 stored page bodies on 21 October 2026, 1,006 of our 2,501 live pages had none, including the writing tools comparison linked above.
