Best AI visibility tool for a car dealer, and why selling, fixing and renting cars got one answer

Three different automotive businesses were asked about separately across 18 readings and came back with the same shape of answer, which decides how many question sets a dealer group actually needs to buy.

Published by AI Knows Us · Updated 20 October 2026

A dealer group should buy one question set, not three, and should buy it from a vendor that records the profile and the stock page the answer was built from. We asked three separate automotive questions in the second audit, about selling cars, fixing cars and renting cars, in three markets on two apps. That is 18 readings. An AI visibility vendor was named in 4 of 18. A company profile was named in 17 of 18 and schema or structured data in 17 of 18. The three businesses were asked about independently and the engines answered them the same way, which is why one set covers them.

The three questions, side by side

Question, 6 readings eachNamed a vendorNamed a profileNamed a directory or review platform
How does a car dealership get recommended by AI assistants?2 of 66 of 65 of 6
What should a car rental company do to appear in AI answers?2 of 65 of 65 of 6
How does a car repair garage get recommended by AI?0 of 66 of 65 of 6

The garage reading is the one worth sitting with. In six readings, across both apps and all three markets, not one answer named any of the fourteen vendors we checked for. The advice came back as a profile, a set of listings and review handling. A workshop owner asking an assistant how to get recommended is told to fix the listing, and that is the honest starting point for this trade.

The engine split, which does not average

Across the 18 automotive readings, ChatGPT named a vendor in 0 of 9 and Gemini in 4 of 9. The wider pattern holds: across all 120 readings of physical and local trades, ChatGPT named a vendor in 4 of 60 and Gemini in 25 of 60. Our own record runs the other way. Of the six citations we earned in 1,260 readings, all six were on ChatGPT and none on Gemini. Those are two separate findings about two apps and they belong in separate sentences, which is why we never add them together.

Ranking the tools on the surface that answered

If a profile appears in 17 of 18 readings, then the test for a vendor is whether it publishes coverage of that surface. We read nine vendor pages on 20 October 2026, two user agents each, bodies saved. Ranked on that one stated criterion:

  1. Ahrefs. Publishes a Google Business Profile product, described as managing profiles at scale, in a Local SEO group that sits apart from Brand Radar, its AI answer product. It is the only vendor we read that publishes coverage of the surface these readings kept naming. It names 7 engines.
  2. Semrush. Sells a separate Local product and refers to local SEO from its AI visibility page, which names 3 engines. The Local product page is assembled in the browser, so we read no detail from it and claim none.
  3. AI Knows Us. Our pricing page offers help getting listed on the sites an AI cites, and help asking customers for reviews, up to 500 or 2,000 customers a month by plan. It does not name a profile, a local pack or a directory. We name 5 engines, which is fewer than six of the vendors here.
  4. Peec, Profound, Otterly, Scrunch, Depra and Rankscale. None named a profile or local surface on the pricing or product page we read, and they name 7 to 9 engines each. For a dealer group that trades from physical sites, that is the gap to ask about on the call.

Being accurate about ourselves here means naming where we are behind. Six of these vendors publish a daily checking cadence and we publish weekly. Three publish unlimited seats or users in those words, while every plan we publish carries one login with full access, which matters to a group with a marketing manager per site. Peec and Rankscale publish a changelog and we do not. Our one narrow first place is disclosure: we publish the per trade counts above, including zero mentions of our own name across all 120 physical trade readings, and no other vendor page we read published a count like it.

What a dealer group should actually do

  • One question set across all three lines. Sales, service and rental go in the same bank, tagged by line, because the answers come from the same surfaces. Vendors meter questions, so three duplicate sets is three times the cost for one finding.
  • Treat the profile as inventory. It carried 17 of 18 readings. Opening hours, the service department as its own entity, the brands held and the departments listed are the work.
  • Put the stock and service detail in the page, not only in the feed. Structured data appeared in 17 of 18 readings. A used stock page that states the make, the year band, the warranty and the location in the HTML is quotable; one that paints itself in with script is harder to lift from.
  • Keep the service lane separate in the measurement. The garage question named no vendor in six readings and its buyer is a different person from the car buyer, with a different question and a different urgency.
  • Ask for a reading, not a demo. The question in your market, on both apps, with the answer text and the source domains kept and dated.

The mechanics underneath this, how inventory pages behave and what a dealer can actually change on a locked platform, are set out in our page on dealership inventory pages and platform limits. It carried no durable inbound link when we counted, as is true of 908 of our 1,942 live pages.

Questions about AI visibility tools for a car dealer

Should a group with eight sites buy eight subscriptions?

Ask how a vendor counts a business before you decide. Our own plans cover one business each, except the agency plan which covers ten, and the seat and business limits differ across the vendors above. The measurement itself is per question and per market, so a group usually wants one bank of questions with location tags rather than eight separate accounts.

Why did the repair garage question name no tools?

In those six readings the engines treated it as a local listing problem and answered with a profile, listings and reviews. The category's marketing reaches buyers who already search for AI visibility tools, and a workshop owner is not usually one of them.

Does this mean the tools are the wrong purchase for a dealer?

It means the order of work is clear. Get the profile and the stock pages right first, because that is what the answers were built from, then buy the measurement so you can see the answer change and prove which page did it. Both halves are worth having and the cheap half comes first.

How often should a dealership re-run the check?

Monthly covers most of it, and weekly is worth it on the questions tied to a campaign or a model launch, so you are working from current data when stock turns over. Six of the vendors above publish a daily option if the cadence matters to you.

Is a review platform or a trade directory more useful here?

A directory or review platform appeared in 15 of the 18 automotive readings, so both are doing work in this trade. Across the whole second audit, review directories carried 0.7% of citations, so the automotive share is above what the aggregate would suggest and the listing is worth the hour.

What is the single number to ask a vendor for?

The count of readings in which your dealership was named, with the date, the app and the market printed beside it, plus the domains each answer used. A share of voice score with no sources behind it cannot tell you which listing to fix.

A dealer group that sells, services and rents is three businesses to a buyer and one entry to an assistant, so buy the tool that can hold all three lines in a single question set.
