Best AI visibility tool for a private school, ranked on whether the plan you can buy watches Gemini, which named a tool in two readings of three
ChatGPT named no tool in three school readings. Gemini named one in two of three. Two vendors keep Gemini behind an add-on or an unpriced tier, so the engine list on the cheapest plan is the whole decision.

For a private school the honest first answer is that one app answered this question with a tool name and the other did not. Across six readings of a private school question in the second audit, Gemini named an AI visibility vendor in 2 of its 3 readings and ChatGPT named one in 0 of 3. So the line to read on a pricing page is the engine list on the cheapest plan you can actually buy, and two vendors put Gemini behind an add-on or behind an unpriced tier. Ranked on that criterion, Depra and Rankscale publish Gemini on every plan, we publish it on every plan that watches the AI apps, and Otterly and Scrunch do not.
What the six school readings produced
| Measure, 6 readings | Result |
|---|---|
| Named any AI visibility vendor | 2 of 6 |
| Split by app | ChatGPT 0 of 3, Gemini 2 of 3 |
| Split by market | United States 0 of 2, United Kingdom 1 of 2, India 1 of 2 |
| Named structured data on the school's own pages | 6 of 6 |
| Named a company profile | 4 of 6 |
| Named a directory listing | 4 of 6 |
| Named a review platform | 2 of 6 |
| Named AI Knows Us | 0 of 6 |
Structured data was named in every single reading, which five other verticals on these two sheets also reach. That matters more than the tool choice: a school that has not put its fees, intake dates, entry requirements and catchment in plain readable text on its own pages has nothing for an answer to quote, whatever it is paying to watch.
Ranked on whether Gemini is in the plan you can buy
- Depra AI. Every plan publishes ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and Perplexity, and states that ChatGPT, Gemini and AI Overviews are checked daily. It also publishes forty markets at no extra charge.
- Rankscale. Every published plan card lists Gemini alongside AI Mode and AI Overviews, and publishes a scheduling choice of hourly, daily or weekly.
- AI Knows Us. Our pricing page names Gemini on every plan that watches the AI apps, with all five surfaces listed, and we check weekly with extra checks available any time. Daily is better than weekly on this criterion and two vendors above publish it.
- Ahrefs. Gemini is in the published platform list for Brand Radar, and custom prompt tracking is published as available from the Lite plan upward. Note its own stated unit: each prompt uses one check per platform, per location and per update.
- Peec AI. Every monthly tier publishes "Choose 3 models", so Gemini is available but spends one of your three slots, with up to thirteen on the unpriced tier.
- Profound. Its free trial publishes ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews, one language and one region, and runs for seven days. The ongoing plan is unpriced.
- Otterly.AI publishes four base engines, ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and MS Copilot, with Claude, Google AI Mode and Gemini as extra add-ons on every published tier.
- Scrunch AI. The tier you can buy publishes four LLMs: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AIO and Copilot. Gemini appears in the nine LLM list that unlocks at the unpriced tier.
- Semrush. The engine names did not render on the pricing page we read, so a school cannot verify Gemini coverage from that page. Its separate AI visibility material is where to ask.
Being fair about where we lose: four of these vendors publish unlimited seats or team members and we publish one login with full access on every plan. Six publish a daily or faster cadence against our weekly. Peec and Rankscale publish a changelog and we publish none, Rankscale publishes a white labelled dashboard and we publish none, and we publish no single sign-on. What we do publish is the arithmetic: one credit is one question on one app once, a Claude check is three, and the page tells you how many a check will use before it starts.
The order of work for a school, before any subscription
- Put the admissions facts in text. Structured data was named in six of six readings. Fees by year group, intake dates, the registration deadline, entry assessment, bus routes and the catchment. Not in a prospectus PDF.
- Fix the profile and the directory entries. A profile was named in four of six and a directory in four of six. Age range, board or curriculum, boarding or day, and the inspection or affiliation reference.
- Write for the parent's question, not the school's brochure. "Schools near X with a sixth form and a bus from Y" carries three constraints. A page that answers all three gets quoted.
- Watch a small bank through the admissions window. Fifteen to thirty questions covers a single campus. The reason to re-check at all is that the only way to show a change worked is the same question asked twice.
The calendar problem a school has, a whole year of spend compressed into the months before the registration deadline, is covered in our page on the school marketing year. It carried no inbound internal link when we counted, as is true of 964 of our 1,987 live pages.
Questions about AI visibility tools for a private school
If ChatGPT named no tool for a school, does a school need one?
Do the admissions text and the listing work first, because every one of the six readings asked for it and none of it costs a subscription. Buy the measurement when you want to know whether a parent asking about your year group is being told your name or somebody else's.
Why does the Gemini question matter so much here?
Because it was the app that produced a tool name in this sector, two readings of three, while ChatGPT produced none in three. If you buy a plan whose base engines exclude Gemini, you are watching the apps that answered this question without reference to anybody's product.
How often should a school re-check?
Weekly through the registration window, monthly outside it, so you are working from current data when parents are actually deciding. Our plans check weekly on priority questions and you can run an extra check whenever an open day or a deadline moves.
Does an inspection report or a league table hold the answer?
Often, yes. A directory or review platform was named in four of six readings and two of six respectively, and those entries are usually older than the website. Read the source domain your tool reports before you rewrite a single page of the site.
What should a school ask a vendor on the first call?
Ask for a dated reading on your own town, on both apps, with the source domains listed, and ask which plan the Gemini number came from. If the answer is an add-on or an unpriced tier, you have learned the price of the one app that answered this question with a recommendation.
A parent comparing two schools asks an assistant a question with three constraints in it, and the app they happen to open decides whether a product gets mentioned at all. That is the finding a school should take from these six readings, and it is cheaper to act on than it is to buy.
