Best GEO agency in the UK: three different purchases hide behind the phrase, so pick the purchase first

The British names that come back from this work are a research publisher, an AI search agency and a scoring service, and they sell three unlike things. Here is what each kind of supplier actually hands over, read from their own sites on 20 October 2026, and the order to decide in.

Published by AI Knows Us · Updated 20 October 2026

In the United Kingdom, "GEO agency" covers three purchases that are not substitutes for each other. You can buy research you read, monitoring you subscribe to, or build work somebody does on and around your site. The British suppliers that keep turning up in this category sit in different ones of those three, so a shortlist that treats them as rivals compares a subscription against a project against a report. Decide which of the three you are buying, then the shortlist is short and the quotes are comparable.

The three purchases, and what each one hands over

What you are buyingWhat arrivesWhat it cannot doWho it suits
Research you readA dated study with its method, sample and limits published, free to read and quoteNothing changes on your site, and no finding is about your businessA buyer deciding whether this work is worth a budget
Monitoring you subscribe toA recurring reading of named engines against a fixed question set, your name in none of the questions, and a log of who is named instead of youIt tells you the score and does not move itA buyer who already publishes and needs to know whether it lands
Build work somebody doesPages, entity facts, structured data, profiles on the sources the engines read, sometimes the website itselfSlower to show, and hard to audit without a measurement layer beside itA buyer whose own facts and pages are the problem

Almost every disappointing engagement here is the wrong row. Buying monitoring and expecting movement is reading a thermometer and waiting for the weather to change. Buying build work with no reading beside it leaves you unable to tell month six from month one.

Two British suppliers, read on their own terms

Whito, which is a research publisher and not an agency

Read on 20 October 2026, whito.co.uk describes itself as an independent UK research publisher, publishing since 2017, and names Whito Ltd with Companies House number 10918465. Its llms.txt names the company, the registration and a named analyst, and links a Wikidata entry. Its studies carry the data, the method and the limits, free to read and quote. It runs a directory where firms are checked against Companies House and states that position in it is not for sale, and it publishes a page on how it makes money alongside an editorial policy. It sells a monthly visibility subscription and research files built to a scope. We do not reproduce its prices.

A company number, a named analyst, a published method and a stated revenue model are what a reader needs to judge a study, and most publishing here offers none of them.

Rank4AI, which sells one thing and refuses the rest

Read the same day, rank4ai.co.uk describes itself as a UK AI search agency and states that it works on AI search only, with no SEO retainers and no PPC. Its llms.txt names Rank4AI Ltd and gives Colchester, Essex. It publishes four shapes of engagement rather than one retainer: an AI visibility audit, ecosystem services it describes as requiring no work on your site, full agency work covering the website and the ecosystem, and advisory where it advises and you implement. It also publishes a methodology page, a statistics page drawn from more than 1,400 UK audits across six AI platforms, free tools, and pages for several English cities.

The four shapes are the useful part. "No work required on your site" and "we advise, you implement" are different answers to the question of who holds the keys, and a supplier that has written both down has thought about the case where your IT function will not grant access.

How often a British name came back, counted once per reading

The run is 420 United Kingdom readings dated 16 October 2026, 210 put to ChatGPT and 210 to Gemini. Two engines, not the five surfaces a product here normally watches.

  • Rank4AI appeared inside the recommendation bold in 15 of the 420 readings, 11 of them on ChatGPT and 4 on Gemini.
  • The number of readings in which Whito appeared inside that bold is nil.

Fifteen of 420 is the top of this market in this run, so there is no incumbent to beat. It also means a British buyer asking one assistant and one asking the other are handed different amounts of help.

A separate count, over the same readings, of whose pages were used as sources

This is a different question with its own number. Nothing here adds the two counts, averages them or treats one as a version of the other, because being read to build an answer and being handed to a buyer as the recommendation are different events.

In the source lists of those same 420 UK readings: whito.co.uk appeared in 65, all 65 on ChatGPT, and rank4ai.co.uk in 54, of which 53 were ChatGPT. The British cut of our earlier 597 reading run of 15 October 2026 is published in full as the UK cut of 204 readings, and the permission files of those same small British sites were read one by one in four small agencies and the one crawler they block.

The .com trap, measured on 20 October 2026

Both suppliers trade on a .co.uk, and both matching .com domains belong to somebody else. Fetched on 20 October 2026, rank4ai.com serves a domain sale listing and whito.com an unrelated page with its own title. Nobody has done anything wrong and .com names go early, and it is worth knowing before you paste a link into a brief. Record the host you were served, not the one you assumed.

The order to decide in

  1. Pick the row. Research, monitoring or build, in one written sentence, before you speak to anybody.
  2. Fix the question set. The exact British buyer questions to be tracked, your brand name in none of them, and the engines named one by one rather than described as "all AI".
  3. Settle the currency and the VAT basis. A monthly figure without its VAT basis cannot be set beside another one, and that arithmetic is in what a UK buyer should settle before the pound price.
  4. Decide the geography. The United Kingdom is not one search market, and a question list built in London is wrong in places, as set out in where an England keyword list is simply wrong.
  5. Score the evidence on one sheet and keep the sheet after you sign.

Where we sit, and where these two are stronger than we are

We sell an AI visibility product, so we compete for part of the same budget as any supplier in the monitoring row, and that belongs beside anything we say about them. Our own result in the same 420 UK readings: our domain appeared in the source list of 3, all 3 on ChatGPT, none of the 210 on Gemini. The number of those readings in which AI Knows Us appeared inside the recommendation bold is nil, and across all 1,260 readings of the run it is also nil.

Both firms above are ahead of us on specific things. Whito publishes a company number, a named analyst and a public explanation of how it earns money on the same site as its studies, so a buyer can verify the entity in a minute. Rank4AI will do the build work on and around a British site, which a measurement product does not, and it publishes city pages for the English regions. We publish our method, our raw exports and our failures, which is a different kind of credential from either of theirs.

Questions about hiring a GEO agency in the UK

Is a British supplier better for a British business?

For some practical things, yes, and they are checkable rather than a matter of taste: a pound invoice with a clear VAT line, a company number you can look up, and working hours that match yours. On the work itself, judge the question set, the engine list and the raw log.

Why did only one British name come back in 420 readings?

Because this category is young in the UK and no supplier holds it. Fifteen readings of 420 is the leading figure here, so the market is open and a shortlist built from one assistant's answer rests on a thin reading.

Should I buy monitoring from the firm doing the build work?

You can, and then insist on two contract terms: the question set in writing with your brand absent from it, and the raw answer log delivered monthly and kept by you when the engagement ends. A supplier marking its own homework is workable when you hold the marking scheme.

How do I check a UK supplier is who it says it is?

Find the company number on its own site, look it up on the Companies House register, and check the trading name against it. Then check which exact domain the site is served on, because the matching .com may belong to somebody else entirely.

The one question that sorts a British shortlist in a single call

Ask each supplier which row it is in, in its own words, and what it will hand you in month one. A research publisher offers a study. A monitoring service offers a reading against a question set. An agency offers to change something. All three are good answers, and the supplier whose answer differs from the row you wrote down is the one to put aside, however well it scores elsewhere.
