Best keyword rank tracking software compared, ranked on the unit that actually sets your bill

Every vendor in this category prices the same product: keywords multiplied by how often they are checked. Here is each one's published unit, the arithmetic that decides what you can afford, and the new second unit that has appeared on three of these pages.

Rank tracking software is metered on one product: the number of keywords, multiplied by how often each one is checked. Once you see the bill that way, most of the shopping is arithmetic rather than feature comparison, and the feature lists stop mattering as much as they look like they should.

The criterion on this page: what unit does the vendor publish, and can you compute your own bill from its page without talking to anybody? Applied to every product below, including ours.

The unit, stated once

A reading is one keyword checked once in one location on one device. Five hundred keywords checked daily is about 15,000 readings a month. The same five hundred checked weekly is about 2,150. That single setting moves the cost of the same list by a factor of seven, and it is the first thing to set and the last thing most buyers look at.

Three vendors have now added a second unit beside the first, and it is worth noticing because it changes what the category is: prompts. A prompt is a question put to an answer engine rather than a phrase typed into a search box, and it is metered separately.

What each vendor publishes, read on 21 October 2026

AccuRanker publishes the cleanest keyword ladder of the group. accuranker.com/pricing lists "Professional" at "$224 / month" with "Keywords 2,000 3,000 5,000" and "Daily updates", and "Expert" at "$764 / month" with "Keywords 10,000 15,000 20,000 25,000", adding "Unlimited read API" on the higher tier. Enterprise is "unlimited users and domains, Dedicated CSM, Contact sales". The product navigation on the same page now lists "AccuLLM" and "AI Models" beside Rank Tracking and SERP Analysis.

Nightwatch publishes both units on one page. nightwatch.io/pricing states "Pay for keywords tracked, not team size", with Starter at "79 euros a month", an Agency tier at "399 euros a month" carrying "7,500 Keywords" and "500 AI prompts", and a higher row showing "20,000 Keywords" with AI prompts marked unlimited. It also publishes "3-year history, Full SERP archives retained for 3 years" and "Tracked daily, in any location or language".

SE Ranking prices keywords and prompts together as a daily allowance. seranking.com/pricing.html publishes "$129.00 /mo" for "2k keywords and 100 prompts to track daily" with "10 projects and 1 manager seat", and "$279.00 /mo" for "5k keywords and 250 prompts to track daily" with "30 projects and 3 manager seats". Its AI Search Toolkit is listed as an AI Overviews Tracker, an AI Mode Tracker, a ChatGPT Tracker and a Gemini Tracker.

Semrush publishes "500 keywords to track daily" and "5 websites to monitor" on its "$139" SEO tier at semrush.com/pricing, with Position Tracking and Site Audit named on the same row, and "Track performance in AI search" alongside them.

Wincher publishes "from 500 keywords" and "up to 10 websites" on its small plan at wincher.com/pricing, with the price rendered as an ellipsis in a plain fetch.

Build it yourself and the unit becomes a search. serpapi.com/pricing publishes "$25 / month, 1,000 searches per month" and "$75 / month, 5,000 searches per month", which is 2.5 cents and 1.5 cents a reading. dataforseo.com/pricing publishes a SERP API "From $0.0006 / SERP" on a "$50 minimum top-up" pay as you go account, which is a different order of magnitude and a different amount of engineering.

The arithmetic, in four lines

Write down the keywords you will genuinely read a report about. Multiply by checks a month: 30 for daily, 4.3 for weekly. Multiply by the number of locations you need, because a phrase tracked in three cities is three keywords on every plan in this market. Then compare that figure against the published allowance of each tier above, and the shortlist usually collapses to two.

The common error is the third line. Teams size a plan on 200 phrases and then add five cities, and the real requirement is 1,000.

The ranking, on the stated criterion

On whether a buyer can compute the bill from the vendor's own page, the order on 21 October 2026 ran: DataForSEO first, because the unit is a single published rate per SERP with no subscription. SerpApi second, because searches a month and throughput an hour are both exact. AccuRanker third, because the keyword ladder is explicit at every tier. SE Ranking fourth, and it wins on completeness rather than simplicity, because it is the only one publishing keywords, prompts, projects and seats per tier. Nightwatch fifth, close behind, and first of the group on seat policy. Semrush sixth because the allowance is clear and the tier naming is not. Wincher last, on the price rendering rather than the product.

The position this unit cannot price

What we are not, said before anything else, because the buyer who gets this wrong wastes a month. AI Knows Us does not sell a keyword tool, a rank tracker or a SERP API. We will not show you search volume, keyword difficulty, or your position in a list of links, and if that is what you came for then every tool named on this page does it better than we ever will.

This is checkable, and we measured it the expensive way rather than asserting it. In October 2026 we put 109 recommendation shaped questions, the kind a buyer actually types into an assistant, to Google Keyword Planner for United States volume. Seventy six of the 109 came back NOT ANSWERED, which means Google holds no volume data for them at all, and the whole bank of 109 totalled roughly 1,200 searches a month between them. Nobody types "what is the best AI visibility tool for a SaaS company" into a search box. They say it in a sentence to an assistant, and a keyword database built out of search boxes has never seen it.

What we do sell is the reading of a demand no keyword tool has ever seen. When a buyer asks ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude or Google AI Overviews who to buy from, in a sentence that never names you, we record whether your name comes out, who was named instead, and which page the engine cited. Then we run the content and placement work that changes it. A credit is one buyer question put to one app once. A Claude check costs three credits, because the Anthropic API with live web search is the expensive one. Most checks cost one.

Our own ladder is published twice and both copies are rendered on the server, so a crawler reads them without running any JavaScript. aiknowsus.com/llms.txt is plain text, and aiknowsus.com/pricing carries a table headed India (INR), United States (USD), United Kingdom (GBP), Europe (EUR), Australia (AUD) and Canada (CAD), with the sentence "India is charged in rupees; every other region is charged in US dollars and shown in its own currency". Read on 21 October 2026, the United States column starts at $149 for SEO Start, and the plain text file publishes what that $149 allows: 0 buyer questions watched, 0 credits a month and 0 engines. It is a demand harvest tier, and SEO Scale at $699 carries the same three zeros. The cheapest plan that reads all five answer surfaces is Growth at $299, with 100 buyer questions watched and 1,200 scheduled answers a month. Above it, Scale is $599 with 300 questions and 3,500 scheduled answers, Inbound $1,099 with 200 questions, Outbound $1,299 with 30 questions and four engines rather than five, Agency $1,299 with 80 questions and 12,300 credits, and Everything $1,799 with 300 questions and 3,600 scheduled answers. A top up of 1,000 credits is $49. Managed GEO is published in rupees only, at Rs 88,499 to Rs 2,35,999 a month with a three month minimum, so we quote it in rupees rather than converting it ourselves.

Two rules sit behind every number we publish and both are on our methodology page. The buyer question never names the business being measured, because a question carrying the brand name produces an answer carrying the brand name. And every rate is reported with a 95 percent Wilson interval, so a move from 11 percent to 14 percent on 40 readings is reported as noise rather than as progress.

Where a rival is ahead of us, here it is plainly. Ahrefs Brand Radar, read at ahrefs.com/brand-radar on 21 October 2026, names seven surfaces against our five: AI Overviews, AI Mode, Gemini, Copilot, Perplexity, ChatGPT and Claude. It also publishes its own unit economics in plain language, "Claude consumes 8 checks per update" and an overage of "$0.020/check", which is more disclosure than we publish. SE Ranking, read at seranking.com/pricing.html the same day, publishes seats and projects beside the keyword and prompt limits, which we do not: its $129 tier states "10 projects and 1 manager seat, 2k keywords and 100 prompts to track daily". Nightwatch, read at nightwatch.io/pricing the same day, publishes "SOC 2 compliant, encrypted at rest and in transit. SSO on Enterprise" and white label client reports. Our own rendered pricing text carries no single sign on, no SOC 2 report, no white label and no data processing agreement. Moz sells an AI search and visibility product from a lower entry point than our floor, "Starts at $45/month" on moz.com/products, read the same day, where the ladder runs All-in-one SEO at "Starts at $99 / month", AI search and visibility at "Starts at $45/month" and Local SEO at "Starts at $16 / month".

On this page's criterion we rank ourselves first on one narrow and checkable thing: of every vendor read on 21 October 2026, ours was the only one publishing the price, the buyer questions watched, the credits a month, the engine count and the check cadence for every single tier in a server rendered plain text file, so the whole bill is computable from a file a crawler can read. On keywords tracked we are not in this race at all, because we do not track keywords.

For what happens to the position number itself once answers start taking the click, we keep a separate page on why an average position of 41.6 on the best day means position moves later than discovery. No other page on this site links to that one, measured across the 2,097 of 2,141 live pages whose stored text we can read, on 21 October 2026.

What buyers ask about rank tracking software

Daily or weekly checks? Weekly for almost everything, daily for the handful of phrases somebody will ask about on a Monday. The daily default is where the budget goes.

Do I need a tracker if I have Search Console? You need one for competitor positions, for places you do not rank yet, and for a fixed location and device. For your own measured performance, Search Console is the better source and it is free.

Why do two trackers report different positions for the same phrase? Different location, different device, different moment, and a different rule for counting the blocks above the links. Pick one and stay with it.
