Best marketing MBA programs compared, and the one report that puts a number on your own cohort
The federal earnings file sorts an MBA by the degree it awards, not by the concentration you choose, so it will not isolate marketing for you. The school's own employment report will. Here is exactly what to demand from it before you accept a place.

Nine phrasings reach this page and they split into two questions that look identical. "Best mba schools for marketing" and "best schools for mba in marketing" ask which school to apply to. "Best marketing mba programs", "best mba programs for marketing", "best mba marketing programs", "top mba marketing programs" and the rest ask about the programme inside the school. At this level they collapse into one decision, because an MBA concentration is chosen after admission at most schools, so you are choosing the institution and then choosing the electives.
That fact is also the reason the usual numbers do not answer the question, and it is worth understanding before you read another ranked list.
Why the federal earnings file will not isolate marketing for you
College Scorecard, published by the Department of Education, holds a field of study file which its data page describes as holding "data at the credential level and 4-digit CIP code combination for each institution", including "cumulative debt at graduation and earnings one year after graduation". Read on 21 October 2026, that page records the data as last updated on 15 October 2026, with the field of study files covering pooled award years from 2014-15 and 2015-16 through 2018-19 and 2019-20, plus a separate most recent data download.
CIP is the federal classification of instructional programmes, and the file sorts by the code of the credential that was actually awarded. An MBA is awarded as a business administration degree. A marketing concentration inside it is a set of electives on a transcript, not a separate credential with its own code. So the federal file will give you earnings and debt for the MBA at a school, which is genuinely useful, and it will not tell you what the marketing people in that cohort did.
This is the trap in the whole category. A master's in marketing and an MBA with a marketing concentration are different credentials with different numbers, and the MBA number is usually the larger one, which is why a page quoting one figure against the other flatters whichever it picked. Keep them apart.
The document that does answer it
Business schools publish an employment report for each graduating class, and for this question it is the only document that reports your own cohort by function. It is also the document that separates a school confident in its outcomes from one that is not, because the detail is voluntary and the detail is where the answer lives.
Here is what to require from it. Ask for the report as a file, for the most recent class, and check for all six lines.
| Line to find | Why it decides the comparison |
|---|---|
| The class year and the number of graduates in the class | A percentage without a denominator is not a figure. A 95 per cent placement rate on a cohort of 40 is a different claim from the same rate on 900 |
| How many of that class were seeking employment | This is the number schools present most differently. Company sponsored students, continuing students and those starting their own businesses are usually excluded, and the exclusions change the headline |
| How many of those seeking had accepted an offer, at a stated number of months after graduation | Accepted is a stronger word than received. The window has to be printed next to the number or the number means little |
| Median base salary, and separately the signing bonus and the share who received one | Total compensation blends a one off bonus into a salary. Ask for the base and the bonus as two lines |
| The breakdown by function, with marketing or brand management as its own named line | This is the entire point of the exercise. Industry breakdowns hide it, because consumer goods includes finance and operations roles |
| The breakdown by employer, for that function | Four named employers hiring into marketing from last year's class tells you more than any ranking position |
A school that publishes all six is making a checkable claim. A school that publishes a single placement percentage and a total compensation figure has published a marketing document about its marketing programme, and you should ask for the rest in writing.
Why this page ranks nobody first
We set the criterion before we went looking, which is whether a school publishes an employment report carrying all six lines at an address a prospective student can open today, with marketing named as its own function. We then could not complete the reading on 21 October 2026, and we report that rather than ranking on a gap.
The MBA Career Services and Employer Alliance is the body whose reporting standards most school employment reports cite, and its standards page did not load for us: www.mbacsea.org presented a TLS certificate valid for naylor.com rather than for its own hostname, which is a certificate mismatch and not a missing page. Two school employment report addresses we tried, at kellogg.northwestern.edu and gsb.stanford.edu, each returned HTTP 404 to our agent. Those schools publish employment reports and have done for years, so a 404 at one address is a fact about that address on that date rather than about the school.
What follows from that is the useful part. If three well known addresses in this category did not resolve for an automated reader in one afternoon, the report you want is not something to hunt for in a search result. Email the admissions or careers office, name the class year, and ask for the PDF. It arrives, and when it does you have the only numbers in this decision that are about you.
Where accreditation belongs in the shortlist
AACSB business accreditation is a filter and not an ordering. Read on 21 October 2026, the AACSB accredited schools directory returned 1,095 results under its business accreditation filter, 558 of them in the United States, across roughly 70 countries and territories, and the directory is publicly searchable by education level, accreditation type, programme, delivery mode, location and school size. Use it to set the floor for your list. It will not rank the schools that clear it, and a shortlist built on accreditation alone is 558 American schools long.
The four questions for a careers office, in one email
- Please send the full time MBA employment report for the most recent class as a PDF.
- In that class, how many graduates took roles with marketing or brand management as the primary function, and at which employers?
- What was the median base salary for that function specifically, as distinct from the class median?
- How many students were counted as seeking employment, and which categories were excluded from that count?
Four questions, one reply, and the reply either contains numbers or it does not. That is a better filter than any league table, and it costs an afternoon.
If the MBA is not settled yet
A good number of people searching for a marketing MBA are still deciding between an MBA and a specialist master's, which is a different credential, a different cost and a different hiring route. Our page on best grad schools and masters programs for marketing compared, and what to verify at source takes that side of the decision and is explicit that the employment rate and median salary for a marketing masters cohort are not the MBA figure. We send you there deliberately, because no other page on this site links to that one: measured on 21 October 2026, 968 of the 2,343 pages live here carry no durable inbound link from any other page, which is 41.3 per cent and an upper bound, and that page is one of them.
Questions about marketing MBA programs
Is a marketing concentration worth choosing inside an MBA? It changes your electives, your projects and the recruiters who come to your cohort events. It rarely changes the degree printed on the certificate, which is why the function breakdown in the employment report is the figure to chase rather than the concentration name.
Why do published MBA salary figures differ so much between sources? Because base salary, signing bonus, guaranteed other compensation and total compensation are four different lines, and a source quoting the largest of them without saying which it is will always look best. Ask for base and bonus separately.
Can I use College Scorecard for an MBA at all? Yes, at the credential level. It will give you earnings one year after graduation and cumulative debt at graduation for the MBA at an institution, which is a sound cost and return comparison. It will not break that out by concentration, because the file sorts by the code of the credential awarded.
How recent should the employment report be? Ask for the most recent class and note the year next to every figure you record. Hiring in marketing moves with the consumer goods and technology cycles, so a report two cycles old describes a different market.
What if a school will not send the function breakdown? Record that as the answer and move it down your list. Schools that place well into marketing publish the line, because it recruits for them.
