Best marketing mix modeling software compared, ranked on whether you can read the model

Two of the options in this category publish the model itself and the commercial ones publish neither the model nor a price, which changes how you should buy.

Published by AI Knows Us · Updated 21 October 2026

Marketing mix modeling software measures what your spend caused when you cannot follow a click, and the only honest way to rank the options is by whether you can read the model before you trust its answer. On that criterion, read on 21 October 2026, Meta's Robyn is first, because it is published as open source with every component named, and Google's Meridian is second, because it is published as developer documentation with its modules and calibration approach stated. The commercial platforms are behind on this measure and are often the right purchase anyway, for a reason this page spells out.

First, the thing that catches everybody. Marketing mix modeling has nothing to do with the marketing mix. The four Ps are a planning framework from the middle of the last century. Marketing mix modeling is statistical regression over spend and outcome data, usually weekly, usually across two or three years, and the shared word is an accident of history. Our page on who developed the concept of the marketing mix and what each person added covers where the older term came from, and we link it on purpose: measured across 2,589 stored page bodies on 21 October 2026 no other page on this site links to it, and 1,005 of our 2,501 live pages were in the same position, 40.2 per cent and an upper bound.

What each option publishes about its own model

Robyn, from Meta Marketing ScienceDescribed on its own documentation site as an experimental, open sourced marketing mix modeling package. It names its components: hyperparameter optimisation using evolutionary algorithms from Meta's Nevergrad library, ridge regression to regularise multicollinearity, the Prophet library to decompose trend, seasonality and holidays, and a gradient based constrained non linear solver for budget allocation. It states that it calibrates against ground truth methodologies including geo based tests, lift tests and multi touch attribution, and that it requires no personally identifiable or log level data and does not depend on cookies or pixels.Open source. The cost is analyst time.
Meridian, from GooglePublished inside Google's developer documentation, with named modules for MMM, geo experiments, a studio and scenario planning, plus a partner programme. On the day we read it the site carried a notice that its geo experiment product was now available for calibrating a model. No figure published on the pages we read.
RecastCommercial platform. Publishes an MMM academy, an e book, a research section, a reports library and case studies, and routes buyers to a demo.No figure. Book a demo.
Analytic PartnersCommercial platform. Publishes a solution list naming marketing mix modeling, incrementality testing, brand impact and pricing optimisation. No figure.
NielsenThe marketing performance path we tried returned HTTP 404 on this date, so we are publishing nothing about its current offer. A 404 records what the server did and is not evidence about the product. Not read.

Why an open model is first on this criterion and still not always the right buy

An MMM output is a set of coefficients that will be used to move real budget. When a model is published, three people in your company can disagree about it productively: the analyst can see the regularisation, the finance director can see what was held constant, and the marketer can see which variable absorbed the seasonality. When the model is a vendor's property, the disagreement becomes a conversation about trust, and trust does not survive the first quarter where the model and the sales figures point in different directions.

Where the commercial platforms earn their fee is everything around the model. Data pipelines that survive a tagging change, a weekly refresh that happens whether or not your analyst is on holiday, and a chart somebody can take into a board meeting. Robyn is a package, not a service, so the honest comparison is an internal analyst with an open model against an outsourced model you cannot inspect, and the right answer depends entirely on whether you have the analyst.

The two things that decide whether MMM will work for you at all

History. You need enough weeks of spend and outcome data, with real variation in the spend, for a regression to separate the channels. A company that has spent the same amount on the same two channels every week for two years has given the model nothing to work with, and no software fixes that.

Calibration. A model that has never been checked against a held out test is a story about your data. Robyn names this requirement in its own description, and Meridian ships a geo experiment product specifically to do it. Whichever option you pick, agree before you start which test will be run to calibrate the model, and when.

How MMM fits beside the reporting you already have

MMM answers one question that click based reporting cannot: what happened because of the spend, rather than what happened after it. It does not replace your analytics, it sits beside it, and the two will disagree. We set out how to keep both and stop the monthly argument in our page on marketing analytics and attribution explained honestly, which also covers the holdout test that settles a causal question when the models disagree.

Questions buyers ask about marketing mix modeling software

How much data do we need before this is worth doing?

Two years of weekly data is the usual working answer, with genuine variation in spend across channels. Less than that and the model will produce confident numbers it cannot support, which is worse than no model.

Is MMM back because of privacy changes?

That is the stated reason in the category and the published descriptions support it. Robyn's own documentation lists needing no personally identifiable or log level data and no dependence on cookies or pixels among its properties, which is a direct answer to the measurement gap left by tracking restrictions.

Can a mid sized company run this in house?

With one capable analyst and clean spend data, yes, and the open packages exist for exactly that case. Without the analyst, an open model is a project nobody owns, and a platform with a service wrapper is the cheaper outcome even at a licence fee.

Why does nobody in this category publish a price?

Deal size varies with the number of markets, channels and refresh frequency, and the service component is most of the cost. Treat the absence as a signal about deal shape, and ask in the first call for the floor, the refresh cadence included and what a re model costs when your channel mix changes.

Does MMM cover brand search and organic channels?

It can, and it is one of the places models most often go wrong, because branded search volume is partly an outcome of other spend rather than a driver of sales. Ask how the model treats it before you accept the coefficients.

A variable with no spend column, which is why it is missing rather than small

A mix model is a regression over columns. Every column is either money you spent or an outcome you counted, and a channel with neither cannot appear in the matrix at any coefficient, including zero. Consider what happens when a buyer asks an assistant who they should buy from and gets three company names in a paragraph. You spent nothing, nothing was served, nothing was logged. The channel is not understated in the model, it is structurally absent, and no amount of data engineering produces the column.

So it has to be measured on its own terms, which is what AI Knows Us does across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews. Since this page has ranked everybody on whether you can read what you are buying, here is ours read the same way: our pricing page prints the full ladder in six currency columns, India in rupees and every other region in US dollars shown in its own currency, which is more than any commercial vendor in the table above published on 21 October 2026. And where a rival publishes something we do not, tryprofound.com's pricing page read that day carries SSO and SAML with SOC 2 compliance, and our pricing text renders neither.
