Best Pinterest SEO tools compared, and what Pinterest publishes for free itself
Pinterest is a search engine that publishes its own trend data, which puts it in an unusual position: the best free tool in this category is the platform's own, and most paid tools are scheduling products.
Published by AI Knows Us · Updated 22 October 2026
Pinterest behaves like a search engine more than like a social feed, which is why Pinterest SEO is a real subject rather than a stretched metaphor. It also does something no other platform in this comparison does: it publishes a trends tool with its own search data. That single fact reorders the whole category.
The criterion on this page: does the tool read Pinterest's own search data, or does it infer from public pins? One free tool passes and most paid products do not, which is an honest result rather than a convenient one.
What each option can see
| Option | What it reads | Published scope |
|---|---|---|
| Pinterest Trends | Pinterest's own search, save and shopping trends | Pinterest's business help page, read 21 October 2026, says the tool shows a historic view of up to the last two years of top search, save and shopping trends across different regions and countries, that a Pinterest Business account is needed, and that it works in a desktop or mobile browser rather than the app. It also notes some features are in testing and available only in certain regions, and that a crystal ball icon marks where trend predictions exist. |
| Pinterest Analytics, in your account | Your own impressions, saves and outbound clicks | First party and free. The only honest source of what your pins did. |
| The Pinterest search box | Suggestions and the filter chips Pinterest offers after a search | Free, no account needed for the suggestions, and the chips are effectively Pinterest telling you how it subdivides a topic. |
| Scheduling and pin management suites | Your output, plus their own engagement estimates and public pin counts | Useful for operations. They do not read Pinterest's search volumes, because Pinterest does not expose them. |
| Web SEO suites | Google results for your Pinterest profile and pins that are indexed | A different job. Useful, and not Pinterest search. |
The free method, which is most of the work
Open Trends, set the region to the market you sell in, and look at the seasonal shape of your category rather than only its size. Pinterest demand for most categories is strongly seasonal and arrives earlier than people expect, which means the useful output of this tool is a calendar, not a keyword list. Then read the filter chips under a search for your category, because those are Pinterest's own subdivisions of the topic and they make good board and pin titles.
After that, the on platform work is ordinary: real words in pin titles and descriptions, board names a person would search, and a destination page that matches what the pin promised. None of it needs a purchase.
Where a paid tool is the right answer
Volume and reporting. If you publish several pins a day across boards, or somebody else needs a monthly chart, a scheduler earns its money. Compare those products on their published limits rather than their prices: on 21 October 2026 a fetch of one social scheduling vendor's pricing page from this machine returned Indian rupee prices for a United States question, because of where the request came from. A limit does not move with geography and a price can.
The one check none of these tools runs, and who sells it
Every tool on this page measures a search engine. None of them measures the other place your buyer now asks, which is an assistant: ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews compose an answer for each asker, naming some businesses and not others, and there is no index a crawler can read to find out whose name came up. For a Pinterest heavy business the relevant buyer question is often a shopping one, and the assistant answers it by naming shops, which no Pinterest tool records.
AI Knows Us sells that one measurement and nothing else. We are not an SEO tool and we are not in the ranking above, because a buyer who came here for a crawler or a keyword index should buy one of the tools named above instead. What we do is ask your buyer question in all five apps on a schedule and record which businesses were named. Our own figures, from the rendered text of our llms.txt read on 21 October 2026: one credit is one buyer question on one app once, most checks cost one credit and a Claude check costs three because Claude costs more to run. The published US floor is $149 a month for SEO Start, and that same file says SEO Start watches 0 buyer questions on 0 engines, so it is a demand harvest rather than an engine watch. The first tier that watches the five engines is Growth at $299 with 100 buyer questions and 1,200 scheduled answers a month. A managed option is published in rupees only, Rs 88,499 to Rs 2,35,999 a month at a three month minimum, so we are not going to convert it for you.
Where the tools on this page beat us, plainly. Ahrefs Brand Radar, read on 21 October 2026, tracks prompts on ChatGPT, AI Overviews, AI Mode, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot and Claude. AI Mode and Copilot are two surfaces we do not read at all, and its page publishes an overage price of $0.020 per check and the cost of a Claude update at 8 checks, which is a level of unit disclosure worth holding every vendor to, us included. Semrush, whose SEO and AI search pricing page we read the same day, sells AI visibility inside the suite you may already be paying for, with 50 prompts tracked daily and 300 AI visibility reports a day on its Starter tier. Moz now publishes AI Explorer, described on moz.com as showing what the top AI agents say about your brand. If you already pay one of those three, their module is the cheaper route and you should take it. We are the single purpose option for somebody who does not want a suite.
One caution about trend figures
No competitor price table is reproduced on this page. What is quoted instead is the published limit that sets a tier, because a limit is the vendor's own statement of what you get and it does not move with the country you are reading from. That matters more than it sounds: on 21 October 2026 a fetch of one vendor's US pricing page from this machine returned Indian rupee prices, because the request left from an Indian address. A 200 response can still be the wrong page.
A trend line is relative, not absolute. It tells you when interest rises and falls and not how many people searched. Plan timing with it and do not build a revenue forecast on it. The same discipline applies to every index number in this market.
If you work across several platforms and want to know what each one can measure when people search inside it: social media SEO and analysis tools, and what each one measures. On 21 October 2026 we read every link we could see on this site, 2,169 page bodies in all, against 2,082 live pages, and 935 of them, 44.9 percent, had no inbound link from any of those bodies. That figure is an upper bound rather than a count. No other page on this site links to the one above.
Questions about Pinterest SEO tools
Does Pinterest have a keyword tool?
Pinterest Trends is the closest thing and it is Pinterest's own, free with a business account. The search suggestions and filter chips fill the rest.
Is Pinterest Trends free?
Its help page says a Pinterest Business account is required and describes no charge, read 21 October 2026. Some features are in testing and region limited.
Do I need a scheduler for Pinterest?
Only at volume. For a few pins a week, publishing by hand is faster than configuring a tool.
How far ahead should I plan Pinterest content?
Earlier than you would for search. Interest in seasonal categories builds weeks ahead, which is exactly what Trends is good at showing you.
Can a web SEO tool help with Pinterest?
For getting your pins and profile found in Google, yes. For ranking inside Pinterest, no, because it cannot read inside the platform.
