Best SEO for technology companies compared, and the security review that decides which vendor you are allowed to buy
A technology company's SEO shortlist is not decided by the SEO. It is decided by whether your own security team will approve the supplier, and most of this category publishes nothing that survives that review.

Every other vertical shortlists an SEO supplier on the work. A technology company shortlists on the paperwork first, because the supplier will be given access to your analytics, your Search Console, your content management system and sometimes your repository, and your own security team has an opinion about that which outranks your marketing team's.
That inverts the usual order. Run the security gate before the capability assessment, because a supplier that cannot clear it is not a supplier regardless of how good the audit was.
The gate, in the order your own reviewer will ask
Where does our data go. Not the agency's office. The subprocessors. A small SEO shop runs on six SaaS products and your Search Console export passes through all of them.
Will they sign our data processing agreement unamended. The answer is usually no, and the negotiation takes six weeks. Start it in week one rather than after you have chosen.
Do they have an attestation. SOC 2 Type II, or ISO 27001. Most SEO agencies have neither and say so honestly. Most SEO software vendors have one and publish it.
Can access be federated. Single sign on, so an offboarded contractor loses access when your directory says so rather than when somebody remembers to revoke a password.
Least privilege. Can the supplier be given read access to Search Console without edit access to the site, and can a tool be given one property rather than the account.
A technology company that runs those five questions first ends up with a shorter list and a faster purchase, because the suppliers who clear it are the ones who have been asked before.
What the search work actually is for this buyer
Three things are different about technology company search and all three are structural rather than tactical.
Your buyer researches in documentation. A technical evaluator reads your API reference, your changelog and your error messages long before they read a marketing page, and those pages are usually excluded from the SEO scope because an engineer owns them. That exclusion is the single biggest avoidable loss in this category.
Your category word may not exist yet. If you are the third company doing a new thing, there is no established query to rank for, and keyword volume tells you nothing. The work is defining the category word and getting other people to use it, which looks like public relations and is measured like search.
Your competitor's comparison page outranks your product page for your own name. Somebody has already published "alternatives to you", and it converts. Publishing your own honest comparison is the fastest correction available and the one most legal departments slow down.
For the question of which kind of marketing firm to hire for a technology company rather than which SEO discipline to buy, this site carries best tech marketing agency for your company. Measured on 21 October 2026, no other page on this site links to that one, out of 2,405 live pages of which 982 have no inbound internal link by the same measure, 40.8 percent, an upper bound because a link is only countable in a body we hold.
The newer surface, and the vendor that clears your security review best
A technical buyer now asks an assistant to shortlist tools before asking a colleague, and the assistant answers with two or three product names. That is a measurable thing and several vendors measure it. Ranked on the criterion this page is actually about, which is what a technology company's security reviewer will approve, the order is not flattering to us.
| Vendor | Security rows it publishes | Coverage it publishes |
|---|---|---|
| Profound | Enterprise lists "SSO/SAML + SOC 2 compliance" and SSO "Yes"; the free Trial lists SSO "No". | "Up to 9 Answer Engines tracked" on Enterprise, naming ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, DeepSeek, Anthropic Claude, Google AI Overviews and Exa Search. Price is "Custom". |
| Ahrefs Brand Radar | Nothing about SSO, SAML or SOC 2 renders on its Brand Radar page. | "493 million+ search-backed prompts", platforms named as AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Copilot, overage "$0.020/check billed monthly". Its own sentence "Claude consumes 8 checks per update" prices a Claude check although Claude is absent from that platform list, so the page carries two readings and both are reported here. |
| SE Ranking | Nothing about SSO, SAML or SOC 2 renders on its AI tracker page. | "Track brands across Google AIOs, AI Mode, ChatGPT, and Gemini". Claude appears only in its FAQ as an assistant people favour, not as a tracked engine. "5 free checks per day" and a 14 day trial with "No credit card required". |
| AI Knows Us | None. SSO, SAML, SOC 2, ISO and a DPA render nowhere in our pricing text. One login with full access on every plan. | Five apps: ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews. Growth is $299 a month for 100 buyer questions and 1,200 scheduled answers; a Claude check uses 3 credits because Claude costs more to run. |
Profound is first here and we are last, on the row this buyer cares about most
For a technology company with a real security review, Profound wins this comparison on the published evidence and we do not place. It publishes SSO, SAML and SOC 2 on its Enterprise tier and nine engines; we publish none of those three and five engines. If your reviewer requires an attestation, we cannot be bought, and no amount of product fit changes that. We would rather this page said so than left a technology buyer to discover it in week four of a procurement.
Where AI Knows Us is still the honest purchase is the case where the gate does not apply: a company small enough that one marketing person holds the login, or a team running this as a measurement outside the regulated perimeter because no customer data is involved. Nothing we read touches your systems. We ask a buyer's question on five assistants with your product name kept out of it, and report which products get named. That is the whole scope, which is also why there is nothing for a security reviewer to approve and nothing for us to attest to.
And one row where we beat all three by publishing at all: our price ladder is published in six currencies at a fixed figure per tier, while Profound publishes "Custom" for the only tier that clears your review. For a technology company budgeting a year ahead, a published number is worth something, and it is the only comparative claim this page will make for us.
Questions technology companies ask about this purchase
Should our docs be in the SEO scope? Yes, and the usual blocker is ownership rather than disagreement. Agree a change path with the engineering team that owns them before the agency starts, or the scope silently excludes your highest intent pages.
How do we buy search when our category has no search volume? You buy category definition and measure mentions rather than rankings. Keyword volume is the wrong instrument and will tell you the opportunity is zero.
Is a specialist technology SEO firm worth a premium? It is worth it specifically for the documentation and developer audience work, which generalists consistently leave out of scope. For the rest, the premium buys familiarity rather than capability.
Can we run a trial without a security review? Only if the trial touches none of your systems. Profound's trial and SE Ranking's free checks both qualify on their published descriptions. Ours does not exist, which is the simplest reason to start with theirs.
