Biggest SEO agencies and the best SEO company worldwide, compared on the scale figures each one publishes

Size is the one thing this category does publish, and the numbers are self reported, unaudited and occasionally rendered wrong. Here is how to read them.

Published by AI Knows Us · Updated 22 October 2026

Unlike almost every other agency category, large SEO firms publish numbers about themselves. Staff counts, years in business, revenue driven for clients, leads generated. That makes this one of the few shortlists that can be built from published facts rather than from impressions. It also means the facts need reading carefully, because every one of them is self reported, none is audited, and two of the ones read today render as broken.

What large means, and which kind you need

The large American independent. Several hundred staff, one or two campuses, sells SEO alongside paid media and web development, serves hundreds of mid market clients. Usually the best value at the top end of the mid market, and the tier that publishes the most about itself.

The network owned performance arm. SEO inside a holding group or a global media network, bought as part of a larger media relationship. Right for a brand that already buys media at scale and needs one contract. Rarely competitive on an SEO only brief.

The global independent. Offices across several regions, built for multi language and multi market work. The tier to look at if you need SEO in eleven languages, and overkill if you need it in one.

The large offshore delivery firm. Big headcount, low rate, strong at volume execution. Right when the work is well specified and the management is yours. Wrong when the strategy is the thing you are buying.

Say which of those you need out loud, because big means four different things and only one of them matches your brief.

The criterion this page ranks on, and the firm that beats us on it

The criterion is the scale figures a firm publishes on its own site that a buyer can read before any call. It is deliberately not a quality criterion. It is a fit criterion, and it is the only one that can be applied to this category from outside.

WebFX is first on that criterion, and by a distance. Read at webfx.com/about on 21 October 2026, it publishes "750 EXPERTS ON STAFF" and repeats it as "750+ digital marketing experts". It publishes "Celebrating 30 Years of Digital Marketing Excellence" with a copyright line reading "WebFX 1995-2026". It publishes "$10,085,355,239+ REVENUE DRIVEN FOR OUR CLIENTS", "24,859,684+ LEADS DRIVEN FOR CLIENTS" and "3,212,407 HOURS OF EXPERTISE". It also publishes a second revenue statement, "10 Billion" "in Revenue Generated for Clients", described as "In the last 5 years". It gives no client count.

Two readings of that. The figures are precise to the dollar, which is unusual and makes them checkable in the sense that the firm has committed to them in public. They are also entirely self reported with no stated method, and the two revenue statements describe the same magnitude over different periods, so the headline number and the five year number are not two separate achievements.

Ignite Visibility is second, and the way its numbers render is the lesson of this page. Read at ignitevisibility.com on 21 October 2026, it publishes "For over 13 years, we've helped organizations of all sizes increase traffic", repeated as "We've been in business for 13 years", and "over 340 Igniters to assist you". It publishes "Highly Reviewed by 250+ Clients". It says it is "a top 1% Google Partner, Meta Premium Partner, and TikTok Premium Partner". It publishes no prices and no minimum retainer, and says the firm does not believe in "tying our clients down with long-term contracts, hidden fees".

Then two of its numbers arrive broken. A managed ad spend statistic renders as "We Manage" "97%" "in MONTHLY AD SPEND", which is a percentage sign where a dollar figure belongs. A second renders as "99% OF DIGITAL AGENCIES" beside a Google Premier Partner badge. Neither is a usable number as served, and a buyer copying either into a comparison spreadsheet would be recording something the firm did not say. It also carries a badge reading "#1 Digital Marketing Agency in USA" with no stated measure, ranking body or year attached, which is exactly the kind of claim this page refuses to make about anybody including ourselves.

Both of those firms beat AI Knows Us on this page's criterion, and that is worth stating plainly. We publish no staff count, no revenue driven figure and no tenure claim. On published scale we are not in this ranking at all, and a buyer whose brief is a large multi market SEO programme should be reading the two firms above rather than us.

How to read a self reported scale figure without being misled

Ask what period it covers. Revenue driven since inception and revenue driven in five years are very different claims presented identically.

Ask what counts. Revenue driven for clients across every service line is not SEO revenue, and a firm selling SEO, paid media and web development will quote the combined number.

Treat an unaudited award badge as marketing. A number one claim with no ranking body, measure or year is a graphic, not a fact.

Check that the number renders. Two figures read today did not. A percentage where a dollar amount belongs is a site bug, and quoting it back to a salesperson is how a buyer loses credibility in a meeting.

Divide staff by clients where you can. A firm with 750 staff and hundreds of mid market clients gives you a pod. That is the right answer for a mid market budget and the wrong one for a brand expecting a named senior strategist.

The one surface that no amount of agency scale covers

A 750 person SEO firm can do things a boutique cannot. None of what it reports, on any plan, tells you what an assistant says when your buyer asks who to hire or what to buy. That answer names two or three companies in prose, it is assembled across five different systems, and it does not appear in a rank tracker or a Search Console export.

AI Knows Us does that one reading. We are not an SEO agency and we do not compete with the firms above on anything they sell. We take your buyers' questions, run them across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews, and report which answers name you and which name a rival. The limits are published, which is the only axis on which we ask to be compared to anybody: at aiknowsus.com/pricing, read 23 October 2026, Growth at 299 dollars a month covers 100 buyer questions and 1,200 scheduled answers across all five surfaces, Scale at 599 dollars covers 300, and a Claude check costs three credits where most cost one. SEO Start at 149 dollars renders zero buyer questions, zero credits and zero engines, so a sentence pairing that price with five surfaces would be false and we do not write one.

For comparison inside our own category, Ahrefs publishes its unit economics openly: "Claude consumes 8 checks per update" and a rate of "$0.020/check" on ahrefs.com/brand-radar, against an index it states as 493 million prompts. Moz publishes an all in one plan at 99 dollars, AI search and visibility at 45 dollars and Local SEO at 16 dollars. On publishing a readable per unit price, Ahrefs is the clearest in the category and we are not ahead of it.

What buyers ask about hiring a large SEO firm

Is a bigger SEO agency better. It is more survivable and more consistent, and it is less likely to give you a senior strategist. Buy scale when you need coverage and continuity, and buy small when you need one excellent person thinking about your problem.

Is there a best SEO company worldwide. No, and any page naming one is naming it on a measure it did not state. The honest version of the question is which firm is best for a multi market brief in your languages, and the answer turns on which markets you actually need.

Does a big firm give a small client attention. Ask the pod question: how many clients does my account manager carry, and who does the thinking. The answer is usually reasonable and it is always worth hearing before signing.

How do I verify a revenue driven claim. You cannot verify it, so use it as a scale signal and shift your due diligence to references in your own sector and to the deliverable list in the contract.

On why the obvious next step of checking reviews tends to fail, our page on SEO company reviews and the four sites a buyer reaches for that will not load documents the same 403 responses this page ran into. No other page on this site links to that one, measured on 21 October 2026 across 2,411 stored bodies against 2,325 live pages, with my own wave excluded. 965 of those 2,325 pages, 41.5 percent, have no inbound link from anywhere on the site, and that figure is an upper bound, because a body we cannot read cannot be counted as a linker.
