Do AI assistants know Singapore directories, and the one that turned out to be a staging site

They know the Singapore government far better than they know Singapore directories, and the counts behind that sentence decide where a listing budget should go.

Published by AI Knows Us · Updated 22 October 2026

They know some of them, they know the Singapore government much better, and the gap between those two facts is where a listing budget should go. Across 64 blind readings taken for Singapore on 22 October 2026, Singapore government hosts appeared 90 times and the two Singapore directories we can name appeared 9 times between them. If you are choosing between buying a directory listing and getting your registrations and filings in order, the second one is what the engines are reading.

The method, stated so it can be re run

We put 33 batches of buying questions to ChatGPT and Gemini, with Singapore written into the text of every question. That is not a style choice. The search interface we use accepts a country parameter, a language parameter and a location parameter, returns HTTP 200 for all of them, and ignores every one, so the only reliable way to take a Singapore reading is to put Singapore in the prompt. The snapshot taken that evening holds 64 blind readings, 32 on ChatGPT and 32 on Gemini. The brand batch, which names us in the question, is excluded because a question containing the answer is a ceiling measurement and not a blind one.

Those 64 readings returned 757 distinct hosts, of which 161 carry a Singapore domain.

Three findings a listing budget should turn on

The state outranks the directory by ten to one. 39 distinct Singapore government hosts against 2 named Singapore directories. If your category touches data, telecoms, financial services, employment or company registration, the engines are reading a regulator's page about the rules and then looking for somebody who visibly meets them. That is a filings and compliance job, not a listings job.

A directory's staging site got cited. staging.clutch.co appeared in 4 of the 64 readings. A staging environment is a directory's unfinished copy, and a buyer who followed it would be reading a page nobody meant to publish. It is a reminder of what a citation proves. It proves the engine reached a url on that date, and it says nothing at all about whether that url was the one the publisher meant to serve.

The local specialist beats both. The single most cited Singapore host, in 19 of 64 readings, is a .sg domain whose entire subject is marketing agencies in Singapore. The pattern repeats down the list. These are not large companies and they do not outrank anybody on authority; they win because the domain and the page are unmistakably about this market and this subject. That is reproducible by anybody with a page and a market.

What to do with a listing budget on these numbers

Spend it in this order, and stop when the money runs out rather than when the list does.

  1. Free tiers everywhere a buyer genuinely looks. A claimed, complete, accurate profile costs an afternoon. Leaving it half filled is the actual mistake, not the absence of a paid upgrade.
  2. Your own registrations and filings, visibly current. If the engines reach ACRA in 4 readings and the data protection regulator in 5, a buyer being handed those pages next to a shortlist is being handed a compliance frame for the decision. Being obviously in order is free and it is read.
  3. One page per thing you sell, written to be quoted. A figure, a date, a method, a price position, the geography served. This is what the most cited Singapore hosts in this dataset all have in common and it is the only item on this list that compounds.
  4. A paid listing, last, and only where a buyer actually goes. Not as a channel. As a presence item with a named audience.

What is not in this dataset

Two things, and both matter for how far you can push these numbers. There is no per industry rate here, because the questions were marketing and supplier buying questions across a spread of sectors rather than a sector by sector sample. And this is ChatGPT and Gemini. Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews were not in this run. The product we sell watches five surfaces; this measurement covers two, and the two stay separate in every sentence. Our British equivalent, the same question measured for the United Kingdom across 64 readings, was taken on the same day with the same method and gives a different answer for a different market, which is the point of running them separately.

Questions about Singapore listings and AI answers

Should I cancel my directory listings

No. Keep a free tier anywhere a buyer genuinely looks, and stop treating a paid listing as a visibility channel. Across our earlier three market audit of 597 readings, review directories were 0.8 per cent of all citations recorded.

Which Singapore government page should I care about

Whichever one governs the claims you make. The engines reached IMDA's pre approval guide in 5 readings and the Statutes Online text of the data protection legislation in 8. If your sector has a regulator with published guidance, your page should visibly answer to it.

Does a .sg domain help

161 of the 757 hosts in this set carry a Singapore domain, which shows the engines are finding Singapore sites in quantity. The page's subject is doing the work rather than the suffix, so a .com with an unmistakably Singapore page competes fine.

How do I find which of my questions have no supplier in the answer

Fix a list of the questions your buyers actually ask, put Singapore in each one, and run them on a schedule, recording the date and the sources. Our guide to measuring a mention rate without inventing an industry benchmark sets out how to read the result once you have it.

How often does this change

Enough that a reading carries its date. This one is 22 October 2026 and the scorecard behind it was still being written that evening, which is why the denominator on this page is the snapshot we froze rather than a running total.

The reading this measurement is really about

We ran these 64 Singapore readings to find out where the engines look, and they told us something about ourselves at the same time. Our own domain was cited zero times and named zero times in all 64. That is the baseline we publish and are judged against, exactly as we published being cited 3 times in 597 readings in our first audit. A Singapore business can take the same reading about itself: AI Knows Us runs a fixed question list across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews and shows the sources behind each answer, and the first scan asks for no account. The number it gives you will be unflattering at first. Ours was.
