How a cleaning company gets into AI local answers, and which of the two engines got the prices right

ChatGPT quoted BrightLocal at 41 dollars a month, 369 a year and 2 dollars a citation. We opened the page and all three were exact. Gemini quoted a different figure for the same plan.

This is the one vertical in our October measurement where an engine quoted a vendor's prices and every figure survived the check. Asked how a cleaning company appears in AI local answers on 21 October 2026, ChatGPT named BrightLocal and wrote that its one location Track plan is 41 dollars a month or 369 dollars a year with citation building from 2 dollars a citation. We opened brightlocal.com/pricing on 22 October 2026 and found all three figures on the page. Gemini, answering the same question, said BrightLocal "starts around 39 to 49 dollars a month". Of the six other paid products Gemini named with a figure, three publish no price on the page we read and one publishes a figure neither engine mentioned.

The question, the surfaces and the dates

"How does a cleaning company appear in AI local answers?" went to the ChatGPT product surface at 22:27 UTC and to Gemini at 22:42 UTC on 21 October 2026, through a data provider, with no company named. Both engines ran a live search. ChatGPT returned 48 citations led by BrightLocal's own help centre with six and brightlocal.com with four, then support.google.com with five, help.openai.com with three and developers.google.com with two. Gemini returned two, cleaningos.com and datacram.com, both suppliers in this space.

It is worth saying out loud that the most cited domain in the ChatGPT answer was a measurement vendor's documentation, not a cleaning company and not a directory. The pages that decide what an assistant says about local service businesses are documentation and reference material, which is why a cleaning company competing for that answer is competing on consistent, structured, checkable facts rather than on adjectives.

What each engine told a cleaning company to do

  • ChatGPT framed the whole thing as three questions a platform has to be able to answer. What you clean, where you operate and why a customer should trust you. Then it ordered the work. Claim and verify the Google Business Profile, choose accurate categories, define service areas, list residential and commercial cleaning as separate services, and keep hours, phone, website and photos current.
  • Then the website. A page for each real service area and service type, with price ranges where you can give them, FAQs, proof of insurance, credentials and original testimonials, plus LocalBusiness structured data and crawler access to the important pages.
  • Then listings and reviews. Name, phone, website and service area consistent across Google, Yelp, Bing Places and reputable local industry directories, with an explicit instruction not to buy reviews or mass produce listings.
  • Then one paid product, with prices. BrightLocal, for local ranking, listing accuracy, competitor and AI visibility tracking. Its closing advice was to start with the profile and the website, improve reviews and listing consistency, add BrightLocal when you need systematic measurement, and hire an agency only if you lack the capacity to do the work.
  • Gemini put entity trust first and named three free platforms. Google Business Profile, Yelp for Business and Apple Business Connect, the last of these for Siri and place cards, which no other engine in our set mentioned for this vertical.
  • Then Gemini named six paid products across three steps. Yext and BrightLocal for listing distribution, GatherUp or Podium for review generation, and Peec AI or DataCram for AI search monitoring, with a free Merkle or Schema App generator for LocalBusiness and Service schema.

Every price in the two answers, opened on 22 October 2026

  • BrightLocal, as ChatGPT quoted it. Exact. brightlocal.com/pricing publishes a plan table reading, for one location, "Track $41 USD / mo billed monthly. $369 USD billed annually ($31 / mo)", and the Track feature list opens with a Local AI Visibility Tracker flagged as new. Citation building from 2 dollars a citation is consistent with its citation builder product. The other tiers read Manage at 54 monthly or 485 annually, and Grow at 65 monthly or 584 annually, with a 2 to 5 location Track plan at 62 monthly or 558 annually. One oddity on that page is worth recording. The plan cards print the words "Price on request" immediately beside the published 31 dollar figure, so the page shows both a price and a request for a price in the same block.
  • BrightLocal, as Gemini quoted it. It said around 39 to 49 dollars a month. The page we read says 41 monthly or 31 annually for one location and 54 monthly for the next tier, so the band is close without matching any line on it.
  • Yext, which Gemini priced at around 199 to 499 dollars a year per location. We could not verify it. yext.com/pricing, yext.com/pricing/ and yext.com/platform/pricing all returned HTTP 404 on 22 October 2026, with the first two redirecting to yext.com/404. A 404 records what the server did on that date and is not evidence about Yext's real rate.
  • GatherUp, which Gemini said starts around 99 dollars a month. Right. gatherup.com/pricing/ publishes Small Business at 99 dollars a month for one location, multi location at 60 dollars a month per location, and a Listings Hub add on at 40 dollars a month per location covering 125 directories.
  • Podium, which Gemini priced at around 249 dollars a month. podium.com/pricing returned 200 and renders 887 words. There is no plan price in them. The only dollar figures on the page are customer story outcomes, including an extra 96,000 dollars a month quoted by a heating and cooling company. So the engine attached a monthly rate to a pricing page that does not publish one.
  • Peec AI, named for monitoring with no figure. peec.ai/pricing returned 200 and renders 3,468 words, and a search of them for a dollar amount, a euro amount and the words per month returned nothing. Peec is one of the specialists in this category and on the page we read it publishes no price, so the engine was right not to give one.
  • DataCram, named for monitoring with no figure. This is the find of the set. datacram.com/geo-industries/house-cleaning returned 200 and publishes its own rate in plain words, "a defined scope, no long contract, from $625 a month, with most local businesses between $625 and $2,250", set after a free GEO audit, with a cleaning website build "From $1,750". Gemini cited this page and then recommended the vendor without the number that was on it.
  • Schema App, offered as a paid alternative to the free Merkle generator. schemaapp.com/pricing/ returned 200 and renders 2,159 words with no plan price. The only dollar figure is an overage line, 100 dollars per 100,000 external chatbot requests beyond an included 100,000 a month.

The cheapest published route for a two van residential cleaner

  • Zero. Google Business Profile claimed and verified, Yelp for Business claimed, Apple Business Connect claimed, Bing Places claimed. Both engines named the first of these first and Gemini added the Apple one, which matters for Siri.
  • Zero. A page per service and per real suburb, with residential and commercial separated, the insurance proof visible, the price range for a move out clean stated, and the recurring plan explained. ChatGPT asked for exactly this and it is writing work.
  • Zero. LocalBusiness and Service schema from the free Merkle generator.
  • 31 to 41 dollars a month. BrightLocal Track for one location, 369 billed annually or 41 billed monthly, with the Local AI Visibility Tracker included. This is the cheapest verified figure in either answer and it is the one ChatGPT quoted correctly.
  • 2 dollars a citation. BrightLocal citation building, quoted by ChatGPT and consistent with the product page.
  • 99 dollars a month. GatherUp for one location if you want review requests automated after each job, with Listings Hub at 40 dollars a month per location on top.
  • 625 dollars a month. The cheapest published monthly figure for a supplier doing the AI search work for you, from the DataCram page Gemini itself cited, with most local businesses stated to sit between 625 and 2,250.
  • Unquoted. Yext, Podium, Peec AI and Schema App. Four products in the two answers are bought by asking, so a figure for any of them in an AI answer came from somewhere other than the vendor.

Why one engine got it right and the other did not

The difference is not carefulness, it is sourcing. ChatGPT read brightlocal.com and its help centre ten times between them and then quoted brightlocal.com's own numbers. Gemini read two supplier blogs and then produced figures for eight vendors it had not opened. When an answer cites the vendor it prices, the price tends to hold. When it cites two unrelated blogs and prices eight vendors, the figures are a summary of somebody else's summary.

That is a useful rule for a cleaning company owner reading any AI answer about what to buy. Look at whether the answer cites the vendor whose price it is quoting. If it does not, open the page before you budget. And note the dates, because the brand behind a name in an answer can change. visiblevet.com, cited twice in a different reading in this same audit, now serves lesli.com under the title "Lesli Rose, Get Recommended by Google and AI", which we confirmed ourselves on 22 October 2026.

Where AI Knows Us sits, and where BrightLocal is the better buy

We sell AI visibility measurement. We do not run cleaning marketing, write review requests, manage Google profiles or build service area pages, and this page is not a pitch for any of it. What we do is ask the customer's own question with your company name absent from it, on ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews, and report which cleaners were named and which URLs the answer was built from. Our ladder, read from aiknowsus.com/llms.txt on 22 October 2026, is SEO Start at 149 dollars a month in the US and UK or 99 elsewhere, watching 0 questions on 0 engines, Growth at 299 in the US and UK or 199 elsewhere for 100 questions on all five surfaces weekly, and Scale at 599 and 399 for 300 questions. Growth is the cheapest plan of ours that reads all five surfaces.

Where a rival beats us, by name and with both readings of the figure. For a single location cleaning company, BrightLocal is the right first purchase and we are not. Its one location Track plan reads 41 dollars a month billed monthly and 369 dollars billed annually, which the page shows as 31 a month, and the Local AI Visibility Tracker is inside that plan. Against our Growth at 299, that is roughly a ninth of the price for a business watching one town, and the engine that cited BrightLocal's own site was right to put it there. Otterly publishes Lite at 29 dollars a month for 15 prompts, cheaper than anything we sell, with the caveat we read on otterly.ai/pricing on 22 October 2026 that the plan covers four engines and that Google Gemini, Google AI Mode and Claude are add ons at 9, 9 and 29 dollars a month on that tier. Profound publishes single sign on, SAML, SOC 2 compliance and up to nine answer engines on its enterprise tier, and a word boundary search of our own pricing page, 119,203 bytes read on 22 October 2026, returns zero hits for sso, saml, soc 2, iso, dpa and white label. Our page also disagrees with itself, rendering "Businesses covered 1 1 1 1 1 1 10 1" above "More than one business No" in every one of its eight columns, which matters to a franchised cleaning brand. Both readings render and we publish both rather than the flattering one.

What this page fixes. One question per engine on one night, one fetch per vendor URL on 22 October 2026, every figure attached to the page it was read on, and the only binding number is the one in a written quote.

What cleaning company owners ask about AI local answers

Do I have to buy software to show up

No, and the engine that quoted the prices correctly said so in its closing line. Profile, website, reviews and listing consistency come first, and the paid tool is for seeing whether that work moved anything.

Why do residential and commercial need separate pages

Because they are different questions with different buyers. ChatGPT explicitly told the cleaner to list residential and commercial as separate services on the profile and to build a page per service type. A query about reliable commercial cleaners near a ZIP code and one about move out cleaning in a city are assembled from different pages.

Does Apple Business Connect matter

One engine thought so and the other did not mention it. Gemini named it as the thing that powers place cards and Siri voice queries, and it is free, so there is no reason not to claim it.

What is the cheapest way to see whether it is working

Two ways that answer different questions. Running the prompts yourself costs nothing, monthly, with the same wording, recording which cleaners are named and which URLs are cited. BrightLocal Track publishes local tracking with an AI visibility tracker from 41 dollars a month for one location or 369 a year, read on its pricing page on 22 October 2026.

What does a supplier charge to do the AI search work for me

The one published figure in either answer, from a page one of the engines cited itself, is from 625 dollars a month with most local businesses between 625 and 2,250, plus 1,750 dollars for a cleaning website build. Every other supplier named in these answers quotes by asking.
