How to cancel Semrush: the cancellation form, the 24 hour confirmation and what happens next
To cancel Semrush you submit the Cancellation Form while logged in, then click the link in the confirmation email within 24 hours, and billing continues if you skip that second step.
Published by AI Knows Us · Updated 13 October 2026
To cancel a Semrush subscription or trial, log in to the Semrush account that holds it, open the Cancellation Form, answer every question, and submit it. Semrush then emails you a confirmation link that is valid for 24 hours. You must click that link to finish the cancellation. If you do not, the request is not processed and billing carries on. When the request has been handled, a second email confirms that the cancellation is complete. These steps come from the Semrush Knowledge Base article Canceling Your Semrush Account, read on 13 October 2026.
This page walks through the steps in order, explains what to select on the form, covers add-ons, apps and trials, sets out what Semrush's published refund terms say, and tells you what happens to your data afterwards. Semrush can change its process, so treat the Knowledge Base article as the final word on the day you cancel.
The steps, in order
- Log in to the right account. The request only counts if you submit it from the Semrush account that holds the subscription. Semrush's refund policy warns that failing to log in, or failing to answer every question, may lead to the request being denied.
- Open the Cancellation Form. You can reach it directly while logged in, or go to Subscription Info, find the line that reads Recurring: Active, and follow the Contact us link.
- Choose what to cancel. The form lists the Toolkits in your subscription. See the next section.
- Complete all the questions and submit.
- Open the confirmation email. Check your spam or junk folder if it does not arrive. Click the link within 24 hours.
- Wait for the completion email. Once you confirm, a case goes to Customer Support. After it is processed, you receive a message saying the cancellation is complete.
- Check the status. On the Subscription Info page, Recurring should change to Inactive. If it still reads Active, the subscription is set to renew, and the usual cause is that the confirmation link was not clicked in time.
What to select on the form
| You want to | Select |
|---|---|
| Cancel one product, such as the Local Toolkit | That Toolkit by name |
| Cancel an older Pro, Guru or Business plan | SEO Toolkit |
| Cancel everything | All Semrush subscriptions, which cancels the full paid subscription including its add-ons and apps |
| Cancel several Toolkits but keep the subscription | Submit a separate form for each Toolkit |
Add-ons, extra limits and apps
Add-ons and extra limits, such as additional users, keyword limits, PDF reports, API units and locations, are not cancelled on the Cancellation Form. Semrush's article says to send a request through its Contact Form and name the item you want removed. Apps are cancelled on the My Apps page: select Settings for the app and choose Cancel trial or Cancel app subscription, and for some apps you may be asked to contact the App Center team instead.
If you plan to change plans, remove add-ons first. The Knowledge Base notes that add-ons active at the moment of an upgrade carry over and are charged in the new billing cycle, so ask for the removal, wait for confirmation, and then upgrade.
Trials: cancel before the last day
A trial converts to a paid subscription if you do nothing. Semrush says that if you do not cancel before the trial ends, you are charged under the terms you accepted at sign up. A trial is cancelled with the same form as a paid plan. Put the end date in your calendar the day you start, and cancel with a margin of at least two days so the 24 hour confirmation cannot run into the deadline. If you are still deciding, our plan for the trial week in what the Semrush free trial covers helps you reach a decision before you need to cancel.
When the cancellation takes effect
Semrush's Cancellation and Refund Policy says cancellation takes effect at the end of your committed subscription term. For unpaid trials or free subscriptions, the policy gives a period of 3 business days from receipt of the request, and says the company confirms a properly submitted request within 3 business days. In plain terms: cancelling a monthly plan stops the next charge but leaves access until the end of the paid month, and cancelling a yearly plan stops renewal while the paid year runs out. The policy adds that cancelling does not release you from binding payment obligations unless the terms permit it.
Refunds
The Semrush Cancellation and Refund Policy sets out the refund terms, as read on 13 October 2026. The main points:
- A one time, 7 day refund window applies to an initial subscription purchase with a committed term of twelve months or more, and to an initial add-on purchase on top of an existing subscription.
- It applies to purchases made directly on Semrush.com by credit card.
- Month to month subscriptions are not eligible.
- You must send a written refund request within 7 calendar days of placing the initial order. Semrush's Knowledge Base says to state the refund request in the comments field of the Cancellation Form.
- Outside that window, cancelling during a term does not return prepaid or committed amounts.
- If you signed a separate agreement or order form, its terms replace this policy.
What happens to your account and data
After cancelling, you can still use Semrush on a free level account. Projects created under a paid limit are locked but remain listed. Semrush says it saves Website Monitoring data for 30 days if the subscription is renewed within 30 days of cancellation, and that if you downgrade to a free plan it keeps your data for one month, after which data is deleted except for the Website Monitoring data in your oldest project. Export what you need before the cancellation date: reports, keyword lists and project data.
Before you cancel: three alternatives to consider
- Downgrade. If you only need part of the toolkit, ask Support to move you to a smaller plan. Compare plans in the Semrush pricing guide.
- Remove an add-on. A single extra limit may be the cost you want gone.
- Switch tools. If one job is all you use it for, the page on Semrush alternatives, picked by the one job you use it for lists options.
Questions about cancelling Semrush
How do I cancel my Semrush subscription?
Log in, submit the Cancellation Form, then click the confirmation link in the email within 24 hours.
Why am I still being charged after I cancelled?
The most common reason is that the confirmation link was not clicked within 24 hours, so the request was not processed. Check the Recurring status on the Subscription Info page and contact Support if it still reads Active.
Can I cancel Semrush if I cannot log in?
Yes. Contact Semrush Support from the email address linked to the account.
Do I get a refund when I cancel?
Not automatically. The published policy offers a one time 7 day window for initial annual purchases and initial add-ons, and month to month plans are not eligible.
Will I lose my data if I cancel?
You keep a free level account. Project data tied to paid limits is locked, and the Knowledge Base gives retention periods of 30 days to one month. Export what you need first.
What to keep watching after you cancel the tool
Cancelling a subscription stops the reports, and the questions the reports answered stay open. Rank and traffic tools describe how a site performs in search, and a growing part of a buyer's research happens in ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity, which none of that data covers. AI Knows Us asks those assistants the questions your buyers use and records whether your business is named, so the ongoing check you keep after trimming your search tools can be the one that covers the newest source of enquiries.
