Marketing certifications compared on what each issuer publishes before you pay, with the prices read on 31 October 2026

Four issuers, one criterion that anybody can check, and the two that publish no exam price on their own pages at all.

AI Knows Us · Updated 2 November 2026

Every list of best marketing certifications ranks on reputation, which is taste wearing a suit. This one ranks on something a reader can verify in a browser: what the issuer publishes, on its own pages, before you hand over money. Three things count. The price of the exam. How many attempts the price includes. How long the credential lasts. An issuer that publishes all three has told you what you are buying. An issuer that publishes none has asked you to find out afterwards.

Every figure below names the page it came from and the date it was read, which is 31 October 2026 in every case. Google Keyword Planner shows 170 searches a month in the United States for this group of phrasings, read the same day against the United States geo target, counted as the group maximum rather than the sum.

The ranking, on what each issuer publishes

American Marketing Association, Professional Certified Marketer

Read from ama.org/certifications/marketing-management-certification/ on 31 October 2026. The page publishes four prices in US dollars. Exam only is "$249" for an AMA member and "$349" for a non-member. The prep course and exam bundle is "$849.00" for a non-member and "$749.00" for a member. On attempts it states "Your exam registration will include three attempts that must be completed within one year of enrollment", and adds that "If you are unsuccessful in passing the exam, you must wait for a minimum of 15 days between exam attempts." On duration of access it says "You will have access to the online learning program and exam for one year from purchase."

On our criterion this is first, and not by a small margin. Price published, attempts published, access window published. The one thing the page does not state is a renewal period for the credential itself, which is a real gap and is a smaller gap than the ones below.

HubSpot Academy

Read from academy.hubspot.com/certification-overview on 31 October 2026. The page states the price in four words: "Completely free & online." It also says "Grow your career and your business by completing free certifications." Twelve certifications are listed on that page, including Social Media Marketing, Digital Marketing, Content Marketing, Inbound, Digital Advertising and Revenue Operations.

Second, because free is a published price and it is the easiest one to verify. The page states nothing about how long a certification stays valid, which is the information a buyer would want next and which is not there.

Google Skillshop

Read from skillshop.withgoogle.com on 31 October 2026. The homepage lists the product areas covered, which include Google Ads across search, display, measurement, video, shopping and apps, the Google Marketing Platform products, Google Analytics, Google Ad Manager and AdMob. It states no price on that page, and no validity period.

Third. Google's certifications are widely taken and the homepage simply does not answer either question, which means a buyer has to go into the individual assessment to find out. Our page on what the Google Ads certification assessment requires and which five count toward a Partner badge works through that one in detail, including what it does and does not prove about a supplier.

Meta Certification

Read from facebook.com/business/learn/certification on 31 October 2026, page titled "Meta Certification: Professional Certificate Exams from Meta | Meta for Business". The page names five role-based certifications, Digital Marketing Associate, Media Buying Professional, Media Planning Professional, Creative Strategy Professional and Marketing Science Professional, plus two skill-based ones and four specialist badges. It publishes no exam price and no validity period.

We also read the testing partner's own page, pearsonvue.com/us/en/facebook.html, on the same date. Its title is "Meta Certification Exams | Digital Marketing, Advertising & Social Media". It lists no individual exams, no exam codes and no price in any currency. It does carry a dated promotion, in its words, "Schedule an exam between Sept. 20 - Nov. 17 and move forward with confidence, with a free retake if you need it", qualified with "Participating programs only. Other restrictions apply."

Fourth, and the reason is specific rather than a judgement about the credential. Two official pages, neither publishing a figure. Third party blogs widely state figures in the region of $99 and $150 per attempt, and we are not reproducing them as facts because they could not be confirmed on Meta's own pages or on its testing partner's page on 31 October 2026. A figure read on somebody's blog is a figure with no source behind it.

What the ranking deliberately ignores

It ignores how impressive the certificate looks on a profile, because that cannot be checked. It ignores how hard the exam is, because difficulty is reported by people who passed. And it ignores whether the training is any good, which matters enormously and is a separate question from what the issuer will tell you before you pay.

So read it as one criterion, clearly stated. If your criterion is different, the ordering changes, and you now have four issuers with their published terms in one place to reorder them with.

Which one to take, by what you are trying to do

If you need a credential a procurement form will accept, an association certification with a published exam process is the one that reads as formal. If you need to prove you can operate a specific advertising platform, the platform's own assessment is the only one that means anything, because the hiring manager uses that platform. If you are early and have no budget, the free route gets you vocabulary and a structure for nothing, which is a better use of a first month than paying for anything.

And if you are hiring rather than studying, the useful question is not which certificate somebody holds. It is to ask them to walk you through a decision they made in an account and what happened next. A certificate shows somebody passed an assessment. It does not show judgement, which is the thing you are paying for.

Questions about marketing certifications

Which marketing certification is most respected

Respect is not checkable, so this page does not rank on it. What is checkable is that the AMA publishes its price, its attempt allowance and its access window, HubSpot publishes that its certifications are free, and Google and Meta publish neither price nor validity on the pages read on 31 October 2026.

Are free certifications worth taking

For vocabulary, structure and a line on a profile, yes, and the price makes the decision easy. They are not a substitute for having run something, and no employer treats them as one.

How long does a certification last

Of the four pages read on 31 October 2026, none stated a renewal period for the credential. The AMA page states one year of access to the learning program and exam, which is a different thing. If validity matters to you, ask the issuer in writing before you pay.

Do certifications help a supplier win work

They get a supplier past a procurement filter and they do not predict quality. Ask a certified supplier to show an account decision and its outcome, and the certificate becomes a footnote to a real answer.

Why are third party figures for the Meta exam not quoted here

Because they could not be confirmed on Meta's own certification page or on its testing partner's page on 31 October 2026. A price with no verifiable source is not a price, and a page that reproduces one has passed an unverified number to its reader.

Should an employer pay for these

For platform assessments tied to work the person does daily, yes, and the cost is small against the time saved. For a paid association certification, agree first what changes once it is held, because a credential with no attached decision is a nice certificate and a line in the budget.

Why we are not on the list above

We are absent from that ranking on purpose. A certification is a qualification a person earns, and what we sell is a measurement a company buys, so putting ourselves beside four exam issuers would be answering a question nobody reading this page has asked. The criterion applied above is the one we would want applied to us, which is publishing the terms before the money, and it is applied here to four organisations and to nobody's advantage.

How we know this

We read the assistants rather than guessing what they do. In our own audit of 1,260 saved answers from ChatGPT and Gemini across the United States, the United Kingdom and India, 82.0% of every citation landed on a site the business itself owned, and review directories took 0.7%. Counted as one domain per reading, 16,516 of 20,143.

That is the whole asymmetry: the pages you own are the pages an assistant quotes back to a buyer. See the dated readings and the method on our proof page.

Find out whether assistants name your business, on your own domain and your own buying questions.
