Otterly.AI vs Semrush: the pair assistants name together most often, and the two engines one of them charges extra for

141 of 567 readings named both in the same answer, the highest overlap of any pair we counted. Vendor documents read 20 October 2026.

Choose Otterly.AI if AI answers are the measurement you need and you want to buy a tier off the page this week, and be ready to add Gemini, Claude and Google AI Mode as separate line items because its published tiers cover four engines without them. Choose Semrush if the AI reporting has to live inside the platform your team already uses for keyword, audit and backlink work, and note that its own newsroom records Adobe completing its acquisition of Semrush on 28 April 2026. This is the pair the assistants shortlist together more than any other in our data, so the comparison is a real one rather than one we constructed.

The overlap, counted

On 16 October 2026 we put 630 buying questions to ChatGPT and Gemini across the United States, the United Kingdom and India. That is 1,260 readings, and we saved the answer text of every one. Counting a vendor once per reading when its name appears in the answer text, Semrush was named in 443 readings and Otterly.AI in 265.

567 readings named at least one of the two. 141 of those named both in the same answer, which is the largest joint count of any pair in our set. 302 named Semrush alone and 124 named Otterly alone. Gemini produced 85 of the joint appearances and ChatGPT 56.

The one sided part is worth stating plainly: Semrush alone appeared more than twice as often as Otterly alone. That tracks how much of the web writes about a platform with 28 million users, by its own count, and it is not a reading on which tool measures AI answers better. For the same reason, a name in an answer and a domain in that answer's source list are separate events, counted apart in this programme and never added. The source side of this run is set out in what 1,260 readings show about which names get repeated, where semrush.com appears as the most cited vendor site at 199 readings.

The criterion this page uses, and what it refuses to do

We build a product in the same category. We have run no head to head test of either of these and publish no score for them. What is checkable in fifteen minutes and dateable is each company's own published account of what the AI measurement covers and what it costs you in engines: which surfaces are inside a tier, which are extra, and how often each prompt is run. On this pair that is the live question, because one of them prices engines individually.

What Otterly's pricing document published on 20 October 2026

otterly.ai/pricing/ answered HTTP 403 to a Chrome on Windows request and HTTP 200 with the full document to a Safari on macOS request minutes later, so a refusal from that host is a fact about the request rather than about the company. From the document Safari received:

  • Three tiers you can sign up for, measured in search prompts at 15, 100 and 400, plus an enterprise tier starting from 1,000.
  • "Tracking of 4 AI Search Engines: ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity, MS Copilot" on all three published tiers.
  • "Claude, Google AI-Mode, Gemini as extra Add-ons", on every published tier.
  • Daily tracking frequency, unlimited team members, unlimited brands and competitors, and unlimited countries and languages on every tier.
  • API and MCP access from the middle tier, with monthly request allowances stated, and a Data Studio connector.
  • Extra prompt capacity sold in blocks of a hundred.

Its features page states the full coverage separately: "Tracks all 7 major AI search engines", enumerated as ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Perplexity, Microsoft Copilot and Claude, with "Monitors 65+ countries and languages". Both of those are good ways to publish a fact, because you can hold the quote against what you are offered.

What Semrush published on 20 October 2026

semrush.com/news returned 200 and its boilerplate reads "Semrush, an Adobe company, is the leading brand visibility platform", stating over 28 million users globally. Its newsroom carries "Adobe Completes Semrush Acquisition" dated 28 April 2026 and "Introducing Adobe Brand Visibility: A Unified Solution for the AI Search Era" dated 17 June 2026. Its 2026 AI Visibility Index has entries dated 26 June and 13 October 2026, the second adding a first UK benchmark.

Its own navigation now groups the AI work as AI visibility, prompt research and AI brand sentiment, alongside keyword research, rank tracking, site health and backlink analysis. One address moved: semrush.com/ai-toolkit returned HTTP 404 to both browser agents, titled "Page not found | Semrush", while semrush.com/pricing and semrush.com/features/ai-visibility/ both returned 200 in the same session. Read the current feature page for the enumerated engine list rather than any restatement, including this one.

The difference that decides it

Otterly's engine line is itemised, so you can see the cost of the surface you need. In our own run Gemini named Otterly in 153 readings against ChatGPT's 112, which is to say Gemini is a surface that discusses this category heavily, and at Otterly it is an add on rather than part of a published tier. If your buyers use Gemini, Claude or Google AI Mode, price the add ons before you compare anything.

Semrush's engine line is not itemised in the same way, because the AI work is one group of features inside a subscription that also buys you things unrelated to AI answers. That is a genuine advantage when the subscription already exists and a genuine complication when it does not, because you are buying a platform to get a module.

So the two questions are different. For Otterly: which engines am I paying extra for, and what does the extra cost per hundred prompts. For Semrush: what does my existing plan already include, and what does the AI side add on top.

Who each one suits

  • A small team with its own budget. Otterly publishes a fifteen prompt tier with daily tracking and unlimited team members. You can start without an approval chain.
  • A team already inside Semrush every day. Check the AI visibility feature page against your current plan first. The cheapest route in this category is often one you already own.
  • A business whose buyers ask Gemini. At Otterly that is an add on, named on the page. Settle it in the quote, in writing, before the first invoice.
  • An agency reporting on many brands. Otterly publishes unlimited brands and competitors on every tier and unlimited workspaces above the entry tier. Ask Semrush about project and seat limits, which is usually where an agency bill is set.
  • An Adobe customer. Ask about Adobe Brand Visibility by name. The June 2026 announcement describes it as combining Semrush's AI visibility intelligence with Adobe's content optimisation, which may be an existing supplier conversation rather than a new one.

Questions buyers ask when choosing between Otterly.AI and Semrush

Does Otterly.AI track Gemini?

Its features page enumerates Gemini among seven engines it tracks. Its pricing page lists Claude, Google AI Mode and Gemini as extra add ons on the three published tiers, which cover ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot. Both statements are on its own site and they answer two different questions: what the product can do, and what a given tier includes.

Is Semrush's AI reporting included in a plan I already pay for?

That is the first thing to check and the answer is on its current pricing and feature pages rather than here, because plan contents change. Read semrush.com/features/ai-visibility/ and your own account's plan page on the same day.

Why do the assistants name these two together so often?

They are the most discussed specialist and the most discussed platform in this category, so a question about tracking brand mentions in AI answers tends to surface both. 141 of the 567 readings that named either named both. That makes the pair a real shortlist and says nothing about which one wins it.

Why are there no prices on this page?

This site records prices and does not reproduce them, our competitors' included. Both companies publish their own figures, which stay current, and a restated price becomes a false statement about another business the day a plan changes.

What should I ask both companies?

Four things in the same units. The engines in the quoted tier, named. The prompt allowance and whether a repeat consumes a unit. The refresh cadence. And whether you receive the answer text itself in a file. Multiply the first three and you have the saved answers a month you are buying, which is the only number that makes two quotes comparable.

What to do with the highest overlap in the data

141 joint appearances out of 567 is the strongest sign in our whole run that a buyer asking an assistant about this category gets handed a specialist and a platform in one breath. The useful response is not to pick between the two reputations. It is to put the same prompt list in front of both, ask which engines that list is priced against, and see whether the answer involves add ons. The engine line is where these two quotes diverge, and it is the one field the assistants' recommendation cannot tell you anything about.
