Professional SEO tools compared, and what the word professional changes about the licence
Professional does not mean more features. In this market it means seats, client sites and the right to put somebody else's logo on the report, and every vendor publishes where those lines sit.

Everybody selling an SEO tool calls a tier Pro, and buyers assume it means the good version. Read the vendor pages and a different pattern appears: the professional line is almost always about who may use the account and whose sites may be in it, not about which buttons are enabled. That makes it a very checkable thing to compare.
The criterion: what does the vendor publish about seats, client sites and report branding? Those three decide whether a tool works for professional use, and they are the lines people discover after paying.
What each vendor publishes on the professional lines
| Tool | Seats | Client sites |
|---|---|---|
| Screaming Frog | Its pricing page states that licences are per user and that two users require two individual licences, with discounts on bulk purchases of five or more, read 21 October 2026 | Unlimited in practice, because the crawl runs on your machine and the published ceiling is your allocated memory and storage rather than a plan tier. |
| Majestic | Its Lite tier publishes 1 User, with 5,000 Site Explorer data rows per search, 5,000 analysis depth and no API access at that tier | Not limited by site, limited by analysis units, which is the professional constraint to watch: 1 million on Lite. |
| Semrush | Seats are an addition on the entry tiers rather than included | Publishes 5 websites to monitor and 500 keywords tracked daily on its entry SEO tier, read 21 October 2026, so a freelancer with eight clients is already past it. |
| Rank Math | Published per site rather than per seat | Its agency tier publishes support for 500 client websites and 50,000 tracked keywords, read 21 October 2026, which is the clearest client site figure in this comparison. |
| Jungle Scout | Seats scale with the plan | Publishes its lower product as tracking up to 200 ASINs and its brand product at 20,000, with platform integrations of 1 against 6 and coverage of 8 Amazon marketplaces against 19, read 21 October 2026. |
| BrightLocal | Not the binding limit | Priced by number of locations managed, from 1 to over 100, read 21 October 2026. For a professional managing many businesses, locations is the unit that sets the bill. |
The three lines that actually decide a professional purchase
Seats, because a tool that is per user becomes several bills the moment a second person needs the same crawl. Client sites or projects, because entry tiers are sized for one business and a freelancer with eight clients is buying a tier for the client count rather than the features. And branding on the deliverable, because if you hand reports to clients, whether you may put your own logo on it is a commercial question rather than a cosmetic one, and vendors differ. One vendor in the adjacent AI visibility market, Depra, publishes client report branding including logo, colours and footer on its agency tier, which is why a flat claim that only one vendor offers white label is no longer true.
What professional does not mean
It does not mean better data. The index behind a Pro tier is the same index behind the entry tier, with more rows of it released to you. It does not mean more accurate modelled figures: a competitor traffic estimate is modelled on every tier, and the vendors say so in their own documentation. And it does not mean a desktop crawler becomes less useful. Agencies that run a large suite still keep a per user desktop licence, because a local crawl has no plan tier between you and the site. The same products are also sold as software, and the split that decides the seat question is between a tool you run on your own machine and a search engine optimisation platform you log into.
The one check none of these tools runs, and who sells it
Every tool on this page measures a search engine. None of them measures the other place your buyer now asks, which is an assistant: ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews compose an answer for each asker, naming some businesses and not others, and there is no index a crawler can read to find out whose name came up. For a professional the honest framing is that it is a service line you can sell rather than a tool you need, because the client question it answers is one no SEO report currently contains.
AI Knows Us sells that one measurement and nothing else. We are not an SEO tool and we are not in the ranking above, because a buyer who came here for a crawler or a keyword index should buy one of the tools named above instead. What we do is ask your buyer question in all five apps on a schedule and record which businesses were named. Our own figures, from the rendered text of our llms.txt read on 21 October 2026: one credit is one buyer question on one app once, most checks cost one credit and a Claude check costs three because Claude costs more to run. The published US floor is $149 a month for SEO Start, and that same file says SEO Start watches 0 buyer questions on 0 engines, so it is a demand harvest rather than an engine watch. The first tier that watches the five engines is Growth at $299 with 100 buyer questions and 1,200 scheduled answers a month. A managed option is published in rupees only, Rs 88,499 to Rs 2,35,999 a month at a three month minimum, so we are not going to convert it for you.
Where the tools on this page beat us, plainly. Ahrefs Brand Radar, read on 21 October 2026, tracks prompts on ChatGPT, AI Overviews, AI Mode, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot and Claude. AI Mode and Copilot are two surfaces we do not read at all, and its page publishes an overage price of $0.020 per check and the cost of a Claude update at 8 checks, which is a level of unit disclosure worth holding every vendor to, us included. Semrush, whose SEO and AI search pricing page we read the same day, sells AI visibility inside the suite you may already be paying for, with 50 prompts tracked daily and 300 AI visibility reports a day on its Starter tier. Moz now publishes AI Explorer, described on moz.com as showing what the top AI agents say about your brand. If you already pay one of those three, their module is the cheaper route and you should take it. We are the single purpose option for somebody who does not want a suite.
How to buy for professional use without buying twice
No competitor price table is reproduced on this page. What is quoted instead is the published limit that sets a tier, because a limit is the vendor's own statement of what you get and it does not move with the country you are reading from. That matters more than it sounds: on 21 October 2026 a fetch of one vendor's US pricing page from this machine returned Indian rupee prices, because the request left from an Indian address. A 200 response can still be the wrong page.
Count the clients, count the people, and count the locations before you read a feature list, because those three numbers select your tier in every product above. Then add one desktop crawler licence per technical person, because it is the cheapest capability in this market per hour of work it enables. And export client data on a schedule, since the history belongs to the account rather than to you.
If what you are actually selling is on page work, the scope and pricing of that package is its own question: on page SEO services, the checks a package has to name and how to price it per page. On 21 October 2026 we read every link we could see on this site, 2,169 page bodies in all, against 2,082 live pages, and 935 of them, 44.9 percent, had no inbound link from any of those bodies. That figure is an upper bound rather than a count. No other page on this site links to the one above.
Questions about professional SEO tools
What makes a tool professional rather than basic?
Usually seats, client sites and report branding, not features. Check those three on the vendor's own page before comparing anything else.
Do I need an agency plan as a freelancer?
Only when the client count passes the entry tier's project limit. Many freelancers are better served by a desktop crawler plus one month of an index per client project.
Can I put my own branding on tool reports?
It depends on the vendor and the tier, and it is published. Ask before you promise a client a branded deliverable.
Is the data better on a professional tier?
No. It is the same index with more rows released. Modelled figures stay modelled on every tier.
How many licences does a two person team need?
For per user software, two. Screaming Frog states this explicitly on its own pricing page, and assuming otherwise is a licence breach rather than a saving.
