The minimum marketing setup for a new Singapore company, and the eight things to have before you spend anything
Eight items, six of which cost time rather than money, and the order that makes the seventh and eighth worth buying.

Eight items, and six of them cost time rather than money. Get those six in place before you spend a dollar on advertising, because each one makes the advertising work harder and none of them expires. The two that cost money come last on purpose, and a new Singapore company that reverses the order usually pays twice.
The eight, in order
- One page per thing you sell, with the price position, the geography and the buyer named. Not a services page listing six things. One page each, specific enough that somebody could quote a sentence from it.
- A Google Business Profile at the address customers visit, complete. Right category, right hours, right phone, real photographs. Google says local results are based mainly on relevance, distance and popularity, and in a city this dense the profile is your shelf.
- Analytics and Search Console installed and verified, on day one. Not later. Data you did not collect in month one does not exist in month six.
- The GST line decided and stated wherever you show a price. Inclusive or exclusive, said plainly. Ambiguity here produces a support conversation on every enquiry.
- A claims position, written down. What you will and will not say. If any advertising carries a saving, a comparison or a result, know who reviews it before it runs.
- A dated baseline reading of what search and AI assistants currently say about your category. This is the cheapest item on the list and the only one that tells you whether the next two are necessary.
- One switchable paid channel. Paid search first, because it answers inside a fortnight and tells you which terms are worth organic effort.
- Content against the questions that produced enquiries in item seven. Not a content calendar. The specific questions real buyers asked.
Why item six goes before the money
On 22 October 2026 we put 33 batches of buying questions to ChatGPT and Gemini with Singapore written into the text of each one, because the search interface we use accepts a country, a language and a location parameter and ignores all three. The snapshot taken that evening holds 64 blind readings, 32 per engine.
In 26 of the 64 readings the engines named no business at all. 13 of ChatGPT's 32 and 13 of Gemini's 32. When they named somebody it concentrated hard: First Page in 17 readings, MediaOne in 12, Impossible Marketing in 11, OOm in 10.
For a new company those two facts point in opposite directions and both are useful. You will not displace a firm named 17 times out of 64 in your first year. You very plausibly can take one of the 26 answers that currently contain nobody, because nobody is defending them and the entry price is a page rather than a bid. Knowing which of your own buying questions sit in that empty group costs a reading and changes where every subsequent dollar goes.
The costs a new Singapore company should actually plan for
| Item | What it is | When it applies |
|---|---|---|
| Pre clearance on a risky claim | ASAS advertising advice, published at S$600 or S$1,200 on a 20 working day turnaround and S$700 or S$1,400 express, which with GST are S$654, S$1,308, S$763 and S$1,526 | Once, on the launch claim that would be expensive to get wrong |
| Do Not Call compliance | Required before telemarketing calls or texts to Singapore numbers under the Personal Data Protection Act 2012, whose sections 43 to 48 commenced on 2 January 2014 and whose section 43 is headed Duty to check register | Whenever the plan includes calls or SMS |
| Visibility measurement | Outside the United States and the United Kingdom, Growth is $199 a month for 100 buyer questions across all five engines and SEO Start at $99 reads zero engines | From month one, and the free scan runs without a sign up |
| Paid search | Media budget separate from any management fee, with GST checked on the Google Ads account | Once items one to six exist |
Those figures were read on 22 October 2026 from asas.org.sg, Singapore Statutes Online and aiknowsus.com respectively, and each carries that date for the reason every price should.
The four things to leave out of a minimum setup
- A rebrand. Before there is demand, a brand refresh is a cost with no measurable return that delays everything behind it.
- A twelve month retainer signed in month one. Buy a fixed scope audit, read it, then decide. Our checklist of what a retainer has to specify in deliverables and hours turns a vague first proposal into something comparable.
- Paid directory listings bought as a channel. Across 597 readings in an earlier three market audit, review directories were 0.8 per cent of all citations recorded. Take the free tier, skip the upgrade.
- A page per district. Singapore is one city. District pages split a small demand pool across thin near duplicates that compete with each other.
Questions about setting up marketing for a new Singapore company
What should month one actually contain
Items one to six. All of them are a founder's own time plus one afternoon of configuration, and together they make month two's spending legible.
Should the first marketing hire be in house or an agency
One in house person who owns the brief and buys execution usually beats either extreme. A founder with no marketing owner buys the wrong things from good agencies.
Is Singapore demand big enough to build on alone
Domestic volumes are small and expensive, which is why many Singapore companies run search across several regional markets from one place. Our guide to running one programme across several markets from Singapore covers the market list decision that comes before any of it.
How long before any of this shows
Paid search answers in a fortnight. Local search and reviews move in weeks. Content and the way assistants describe you move over months, and the thing to hold them to early is impressions and position in Search Console rather than revenue.
What is the single most common omission
Search Console, unverified or installed late. It is free, it takes ten minutes, and it is the only record of what search actually showed your pages.
The item that makes the other seven legible
Six of these eight items are preparation and two are spending, and the thing that connects them is a reading taken before any money moved. Without it, month six is a set of opinions about what worked. The specific reading worth having early is which of your buyers' questions currently return an answer with nobody in it, because in this market that was 26 of 64 on 22 October 2026 and those answers are winnable by whoever publishes something concrete first. AI Knows Us produces that list across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews, and the first one costs nothing, which is the right price for a company that has not yet earned anything.
