The most underrated discovery channel in Singapore right now, and what buying into it costs

One channel in this market currently has no incumbent in more than half of the answers we measured, and the entry price is a page rather than a budget.

The most underrated discovery channel in Singapore is the answer an AI assistant gives when a buyer asks who to hire, and it is underrated for a measurable reason. In 26 of 64 blind readings taken for this market on 22 October 2026, the engines named no business at all. There is no incumbent to outspend in those answers, and the entry price is a page specific enough to be quoted rather than an auction bid.

This page makes the case with the counts, prices the entry honestly, and says which three channels are fairly rated so you can tell the difference.

The measurement behind the claim

On 22 October 2026 we put 33 batches of buying questions to ChatGPT and Gemini, with Singapore written into the text of each one, because the search interface we use accepts country, language and location parameters and ignores all three. The snapshot taken that evening holds 64 blind readings, 32 per engine, excluding the brand batch that names us in the question.

  • 26 of 64 named no business at all. 13 of ChatGPT's 32 and 13 of Gemini's 32.
  • 38 of 64 named a business, and the names concentrated. First Page in 17, MediaOne in 12, Impossible Marketing in 11, OOm in 10, Clickr in 2, Verz in 1.
  • 0 of 64 named us, and 0 cited our domain. That is our baseline and we publish it.

Two different opportunities sit in those numbers and they need different work. The 26 empty answers are open ground. The 38 occupied ones are a short shortlist that a newcomer has to earn its way into, which is slower and harder and not where a first budget should go.

What buying into it actually costs

The honest entry price is editorial effort, not media spend. What earns a citation in this category is specific: a figure with a sample size and a date attached, in the reader's own currency, with the method disclosed. Across 102 build spec conversations in our earlier work, 102 of 102 asked for a date and a last verified, 102 of 102 for pricing in the reader's currency, 98 of 102 for the engines named rather than the phrase all AI, and 80 of 102 for the sample size. None of those cost money. They cost the discipline to publish a number you can defend.

The measurement itself has a price, and here is ours with the market named. Outside the United States and the United Kingdom, read from aiknowsus.com on 22 October 2026, SEO Start is $99 a month and reads zero engines, Growth is $199 a month for 100 buyer questions and 1,600 credits across all five engines, and Scale is $399 for 300 questions. Growth is the cheapest plan on that ladder that reads all five engines, and the free scan runs without a sign up. Singapore takes that column rather than the United States and United Kingdom one.

The four week version a Singapore business can run itself

  1. Week one, write the question list. Fifteen to twenty questions a buyer would actually type, each one with Singapore in it. Not keywords. Questions, in the words a buyer uses.
  2. Week one, take the baseline. Ask every question on each engine you care about, and record for each answer whether a business was named, which one, and which sources were shown. Date the file.
  3. Weeks two and three, publish against the empty ones. Take the questions where nobody was named and write the page that answers each one concretely, with a figure, a date and the method behind it.
  4. Week four, retake the reading. Same questions, same engines, new date. The comparison is the whole point, and it is the thing almost nobody in this category publishes about their own work.

That sequence costs writing time and nothing else, which is why it belongs ahead of any media budget for a business that has not done it.

The three channels that are fairly rated, for contrast

ChannelWhy it is fairly rated in Singapore
Google paid searchExpensive and efficient, with a small dense market driving high cost per click. Priced correctly by everybody.
Local search and the Business ProfileWell understood, cheap, and already done by most serious competitors. No arbitrage left.
Paid directory listingsRated about right by sceptics and over-rated by sellers. In our 597 reading audit, review directories were 0.8 per cent of citations recorded.

The channel that is genuinely over-rated here

Social reach bought as a discovery channel. It builds awareness and it rarely produces the shortlist. In the 64 Singapore readings, social hosts appeared once or twice each, against 39 distinct Singapore government hosts appearing 90 times and a cluster of small .sg specialist sites appearing 7 to 19 times each. A Singapore business whose entire discovery plan is a content calendar on two platforms is spending against where the answers are actually coming from.

Questions about where a Singapore business should put its next dollar

Is this just SEO with a new name

No, and the difference is checkable. Search ranks pages; an assistant writes an answer and may name nobody. A page can rank third for a term and be absent from every answer about it, which is why the reading is a separate measurement from a rank tracker.

Does it work for a local service business as well as a B2B one

It works wherever a buyer asks a who question, which is most local services. The advantage in a city state is that there is no regional spread to split the answer, so the set of names an assistant can give is small.

How long before anything moves

Publishing something quotable and seeing it referenced is a matter of weeks rather than quarters, which is faster than organic search. Hold it to the reading rather than to revenue in month one.

What if my category already has four firms named

Then look at the questions rather than the category. Inside a category where the headline question is occupied, the narrower buying questions underneath it very often are not, and those are the ones a buyer with a budget actually asks.

How do I prove any of this to a finance director

With a before and after on a fixed question list, dated at both ends. Our own before and after is published on the proof page, including a nine day standing start result of 5,965 impressions and 3 clicks, which we label a discovery result rather than traffic because that is what it is.

Why an empty answer is the best thing on this list

Every channel on this page has somebody in it already except one. Twenty six times out of sixty four, a Singapore buyer asked a direct commercial question and the machine handed back no supplier at all, which is thirty six opportunities with no competitor defending them and no auction attached. Our page on how to check whether your business appears in an AI answer, repeatably gives a method you can run by hand this week. AI Knows Us runs the same thing on a schedule across five surfaces and shows the sources each answer leaned on, which is the version that tells you whether your page was read and still not used.
