What a custom website build and its copywriting cost in Singapore, and the one supplier in eight that published a figure

Every Singapore web price we could read on 27 October 2026 with the page it came from, the suppliers that publish none, and the EDGE Grant arithmetic that moves the net cost.

Published by AI Knows Us · Updated 27 October 2026

We read eight Singapore web and digital suppliers on 27 October 2026 looking for a published build price. One printed a figure. On verzdesign.com, in the answer to its own question about what a website costs in Singapore, the page states that rates for building a corporate site "can start from $2,500" while ecommerce websites "begin at $5,000", shown with a dollar sign and no currency code, and adds that the base price "might vary depending on the specific needs of your site and level of customisation". One other supplier described a range without committing to a number: subraa.com says website designs "can range from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars". The remaining six published no build figure, routed the question to a form, or did not serve a readable page on the day. That is the real market condition behind the search for a custom website development cost in Singapore, and it changes how you should run your own process.

Because the market does not publish, the only way to get comparable numbers is to make the brief identical. Write one document and send it unchanged to every supplier: the page list, who writes the copy, how many languages, whether a shoot is needed, whether ecommerce is in scope, which platform you will accept, who holds the logins, and the launch date. Suppliers price what they are told. Three different conversations produce three different scopes and no comparison at all.

Three of those rows are not prices and they are not gaps either. A supplier that publishes no price has answered the question: this is a quoted market. A supplier whose page did not load on one day has not been measured, which is a fact about our reading rather than about their pricing, and it is recorded that way on purpose. None of these figures is promised to still be current, and a snapshot with a date on it is the only kind worth keeping.

Where a custom build price actually comes from

The word custom carries most of the cost and buyers rarely separate its three meanings.

  • Custom design on a standard platform. A bespoke look, a known content system, no new functionality. This is what most Singapore quotes under five figures describe, and it is the right purchase for the large majority of service businesses here.
  • Custom functionality. A booking engine, a quote calculator, a customer portal, an integration with your accounting or inventory system. This is software development priced by complexity, and it is the line that turns a four figure quote into a five figure one.
  • Custom content. New photography, new copy, a second language version. Frequently the largest single line and the one left out of the first quote entirely.

Ask every quote to separate those three. Two suppliers can both be quoting honestly and be a factor of four apart because one assumed you were writing the copy. Where a quote looks much cheaper than the rest, the four lines it has usually left out are listed in the cheapest web design company and the four lines a low quote has already left out.

The grant arithmetic, taken from the government page rather than a brochure

This is the part that moves the net figure, and it changed recently enough that vendor sites are still catching up. Read on enterprisesg.gov.sg on 27 October 2026, the Enterprise Singapore page for the EDGE Grant states that "EDG, MRA and PSG ceased on 29 September 2026" and that "From 30 September onwards, apply for business grant support under the EDGE Grant". It also states that ongoing submissions or projects under the old schemes "will continue to be processed" and that claims may be submitted on project completion.

On the money, the same page states: "Receive up to 70% for SMEs and up to 50% for non-SMEs", with the qualification that "Support levels differ by activity". It also states that a company can "Access up to S$100,000 in total grant support per year, across all activities", and that support is paid on a reimbursement basis.

Four consequences for a website buyer, and none of them appear on a vendor page.

  • Reimbursement means you pay first. The full build price leaves your account and comes back later on a claim. Budget the cash, not the net figure.
  • The annual cap is shared. S$100,000 a year across all activities means a website claim consumes headroom you might want for something else in the same year. Decide the order of your projects before you commit the first one.
  • Support levels differ by activity, so the rate for your specific project is a question for the activity list and the portal, not for the supplier quoting you. The page lists business areas including Automation and Digitalisation, and as read on 27 October 2026 it says the grant covers eight business areas while the list beside that sentence names seven. Read the live list rather than any summary of it, including this one.
  • A vendor still selling on the old scheme is a date problem. If a quote leans on PSG pre approval, check the date on that claim. The companion page on website design companies for a Singapore small business covers the two warnings the government prints about vendor relationships, including the one about never handing over your Corppass.

What website copywriting costs, and the honest state of published rates

No Singapore supplier in our reading on 27 October 2026 published a per word or per page copywriting rate. What exists in the market is monthly content retainers and project quotes. So the useful preparation is not a benchmark figure, it is knowing which unit you are buying, because the three units produce very different bills for the same website.

  • Per word. Cheapest to compare, worst at pricing a home page, where the hardest writing is the shortest. A per word rate on a 300 word home page undercharges the work and the quality shows.
  • Per page. The unit that matches how a website is actually built. Ask what a page includes: research, one draft, how many revision rounds, and whether the meta title and description are in scope.
  • Per project or per month. Right for a continuing programme, and the unit where ownership needs stating. Confirm in writing that the copy is yours on payment.

Two Singapore specific questions decide more than the rate does. First, which English. A page for a Singapore reader and a page for a buyer in Sydney or Jakarta are different drafts, and a writer quoting one rate for both is quoting for one of them. Second, the second language. With four official languages, a Mandarin, Malay or Tamil version is a translation and an editing job with its own reviewer, not a template switch, and it belongs in the quote as its own line with its own price.

On market conditions for writers, the Google readings from 27 October 2026 put "freelance copywriting" at 70 searches a month in Singapore at a competition index of 30, and the broader copywriting term at 1,000 a month at index 9. Low advertiser pressure on both, which means this is not a market where you have to take the first quote.

Questions about Singapore website and copy pricing

What is the lowest published Singapore starting price we found?

From $2,500 for a corporate site and from $5,000 for ecommerce, stated as starting rates on verzdesign.com and read on 27 October 2026. It is a starting figure rather than a quote, and the page itself says the base price moves with scope and customisation.

Why do so few Singapore web companies publish prices?

Because the scope genuinely moves the number, and a published figure gets compared against quotes that include different things. Six of the eight suppliers we read on 27 October 2026 published no build figure. Send one identical brief to all of them and the comparison becomes possible anyway.

Can a grant pay for part of a website?

Enterprise Singapore's EDGE Grant page, read on 27 October 2026, states support of up to 70 per cent for SMEs and up to 50 per cent for non SMEs, with support levels differing by activity, a cap of up to S$100,000 in total grant support per year across all activities, and payment on a reimbursement basis. Whether your specific project is a qualifying activity is a question for that page and the portal rather than for the vendor quoting you.

Should copywriting be in the build quote or bought separately?

Either works, and the thing to avoid is the build quote that silently assumes you will write it. Ask the question directly: who writes the words, how many pages, how many revision rounds, and is the copy mine on payment.

How much more does a second language version cost?

Ask for it as its own line rather than as a percentage. It is a translation, an edit by a second person and an extra set of pages to maintain, so it adds to the build and to the running cost. Suppliers who quote it as a toggle are quoting for the toggle.

When an assistant is asked what a website costs in Singapore

Six of the eight suppliers we read publish no figure, which leaves a very small number of pages carrying a Singapore dollar price for a website. That has a direct effect on what a buyer is told now that the first question often goes to ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude or a Google AI Overview rather than to Google's blue links. With almost nothing local to quote, those answers lean on whatever did publish: one or two Singapore vendor pages, plus a much larger body of American and Indian pricing content. A supplier who publishes a clear, dated starting figure becomes the source for the whole question, and the ones who route everything to a form are absent from it. AI Knows Us measures which pages an answer like that was actually built from, which tells a Singapore web company whether its own pricing page is in the conversation or whether somebody else's is.
