What a UAE enterprise measures that a UAE SME should not pay for
Six measurement lines that make sense at scale, three that make sense at any size, and the one an SME should buy before any of them.

Marketing measurement is sold as a single product and it is really two. A UAE enterprise measures to allocate between competing internal claims on budget. An SME measures to decide what to do next week. Those are different jobs and they need different instruments, and most of the measurement an SME here gets sold is built for the first job.
The three measurements that are worth it at any size
- Where enquiries come from. Not sessions, not reach, enquiries. If you cannot say which channel produced last month's enquiries, nothing else you measure will change a decision.
- Cost per enquiry by channel. One number per channel, calculated the same way every month. Crude is fine as long as it is consistent.
- What buyers are told about you when they ask. The answer a buyer gets from an assistant or a search is a measurement, it changes, and almost nobody at any size is tracking it.
Those three fit on one page, can be produced by one person, and are enough to run a small or mid sized UAE business.
The six an enterprise measures and an SME should not buy yet
| Measurement | Why an enterprise needs it | Why an SME should wait |
|---|---|---|
| Multi touch attribution modelling | Allocating across many channels with real volume | Needs volume to be stable before the model means anything |
| Brand tracking surveys | Measuring awareness movement that media is meant to cause | Expensive, slow, and it will not change next week's decision |
| Marketing mix modelling | Deciding between large budget blocks | Requires years of spend history |
| Incrementality testing with holdouts | Proving media caused the result | Needs enough volume to split an audience in half |
| Share of voice across named competitors | Board level narrative | Useful later, and it does not tell a small team what to fix |
| Customer lifetime value cohorts | Pricing acquisition against retention | Worth building, not worth buying as a measurement product |
The enterprise question an SME can answer for almost nothing
One of the six does translate downward in a cheap form, which is share of answer. An enterprise buys a panel to find out whether it leads the conversation in its category. An SME in the United Arab Emirates can approximate it in an afternoon by asking the engines the questions its buyers ask, writing down who gets named, and repeating it monthly.
Our own version of that exercise says what you should expect to find. On 22 October 2026 we put 198 UAE buying questions to ChatGPT and Gemini, with the market written into the prompt because the gl, hl and location parameters on the search API are accepted and ignored. Of the 60 blind readings, 34 named no supplier at all, and the firms named most often were global software rather than UAE businesses. HubSpot appeared in 17 readings, Semrush in 9, Ahrefs in 7.
For an SME that is a usable result. A category where most answers name nobody is one where a small business can become the named answer without a budget, which is not true of most paid channels.
How a UAE enterprise should report the same thing
Three rules that are specific to this measurement and are routinely broken in enterprise reporting.
- Report each engine separately. In our UAE set ChatGPT carried 2,729 of the 2,812 citation URLs and Gemini carried 83, with 9 of its 28 readings carrying none. A blended score across those two is not a number, it is an average of two different instruments.
- Report cited and named as two columns. Being used as a source and being recommended are different results that fail for different reasons, and a report that slides between them is the most expensive error available here.
- Exclude any reading where the question named you. It measures the ceiling rather than your position. In our own run, the two readings that named us in the question produced a naming and a citation, which is exactly why they are excluded from every figure above.
The reporting line both sizes get wrong
An enterprise over reports and an SME under reports, and both end up unable to answer the only question that matters at a review, which is what changed. The fix is identical at both sizes. Pick the one number the programme is judged on, write it down before the work starts, and report it monthly next to the same number from last month. Everything else is supporting detail.
What UAE companies ask about measuring marketing by company size
Do we need an analytics specialist? At enterprise scale, yes. At SME scale, you need somebody who will read three numbers every month, which is a habit rather than a hire.
Is attribution worth buying for a small UAE business? Consistency beats sophistication at small volumes. A simple rule applied identically every month produces better decisions than a model built on too little data.
How do we measure referral and word of mouth here? Ask every enquirer how they heard of you and record the answer verbatim. In a market where a lot of B2B demand is relationship led, that one question outperforms most tracking.
Should the agency provide the measurement? It should provide its own reporting and it should not be the only source of the numbers it is judged on. That holds for a good agency as much as a bad one.
Does an Abu Dhabi enterprise measure differently from a Dubai one? The instruments are the same and the reporting audience is not. Government related buyers and large Abu Dhabi groups tend to require the evidence trail behind each number rather than the number alone, so the practical difference is documentation rather than methodology. Keep the working behind each figure, with the date it was produced.
What is the minimum monthly reporting pack? Enquiries by channel, cost per enquiry by channel, the one agreed number, and a note on what changed. One page.
The measurement that is the same price for both
Most of the six enterprise lines scale with company size and cost accordingly. Reading what the engines say about your category does not: the question set is the same length for a Dubai holding company and a Sharjah workshop. AI Knows Us runs that reading across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews, reporting citation and naming as separate columns and excluding any reading where the question named the business. For a UAE buyer the plan that reads all five engines is 199 dollars a month, the price outside the United States and the United Kingdom, read from aiknowsus.com on 22 October 2026.
