Which famous marketing agencies does an AI assistant actually name for an American buyer? 1,872 readings, counted once each
Fame and being recommended turn out to be different things. Here is what 1,872 readings of ChatGPT and Gemini actually returned, why one firm was read constantly and recommended almost never, and what that means if you are the one being searched for.

If you are looking for famous marketing agencies you are probably looking for one of two lists: the large holding companies whose names are known from the industry press, or the firms an assistant will actually put in front of a buyer. They are not the same list. We ran 1,872 readings of ChatGPT and Gemini and counted which agency names came back in the answer text, once per reading. The names that came back for American buyers were WebFX, with 26 namings of which 23 were in United States readings, and Percepture, with 11, all American.
What was measured, exactly
The method matters more than the result, so here it is in full. Buyer questions were asked of ChatGPT and Gemini across markets. A firm counts once per reading if its name appears in the answer prose, not in a source list. The company asking the question is never named in the prompt, because naming yourself primes the answer and inflates every number after it.
| Firm | Times named in the answer text | Where |
|---|---|---|
| WebFX | 26 | 23 United States, 2 United Kingdom, 1 India |
| Rank4AI | 20 | All United Kingdom |
| Percepture | 11 | All United States |
| Whito | 2 | Against 65 readings that cited its pages as a source |
Those last two numbers are two different findings and they must not be added or compared as one. Being cited means a domain appeared in the source list the engine drew on. Being named means the business appeared in the answer a buyer reads. Whito is the most extreme split in our corpus: read constantly, recommended almost never. The reason is structural rather than unfair. It publishes research, and an engine answering "which agency should I use" reaches for an agency, while an engine answering "what is true about this subject" reaches for a publisher. One firm can be both, and it will be returned in different slots.
What the two named American firms publish, read on 21 October 2026
WebFX describes itself as a revenue growth partner, publishes "#1 Rated Agency on Clutch & G2", a running total of "$10,085,355,239+" of revenue driven for clients, "30 Years of Proven Results", "94K" client mentions in AI sources and more than 700 third party reviews. It publishes no prices on its home page and offers a proposal instead.
Percepture calls itself a "Global Digital Marketing & PR Agency" with "20+ Years of Proven Results", lists a single New York address, names generative engine optimisation among its service lines, and links to pricing pages per service. Client logos include Pfizer, Vodafone and Zevia, and a testimonial on the page reports a 485 percent traffic increase in four months, which is a client statement rather than an independently verified figure.
Both firms publish more than most of their market, and that is the honest reason to read them. A "#1 rated" claim is a position on a named directory. The useful response is to ask which directory, which category and which date, because on 21 October 2026 g2.com, capterra.com, trustradius.com and trustpilot.com each returned HTTP 403 to a Windows desktop browser agent, which makes several of these claims unreadable at source on that date.
Why the famous names were not the named names
An assistant answering a buying question is assembling an answer from pages, and the pages that discuss specific service purchases in specific markets are written by mid sized specialists, not by holding companies. A holding company publishes investor material and campaign showcases. A specialist publishes what a thing costs and how to brief it. The second kind of page is what an answer is built from.
The two engines also behave differently enough that one strategy cannot serve both. In a separate audit of 597 readings, ChatGPT drew its single most used domain in 176 of its 306 readings, while Gemini drew its most used domain in 19 of its 291. On the first you are competing against a short, entrenched list of sources. On the second there is no entrenched list to displace.
If you are the business being searched for
The practical reading of the table above is that fame in the trade press and presence in an answer are produced by different work. The second is produced by publishing material that answers a buyer question specifically enough to be quoted, in a place the engines already read, and by knowing which questions you are currently absent from.
That second part is what we sell: a dated, repeatable reading of which businesses the five assistants name for your buyer questions, with your own name absent from every prompt, reported as naming and citation separately because they fail for different reasons. We are not an agency, we do not run campaigns and we do not buy media. Every firm named on this page is ahead of us on all of that.
For the buyer side of the same question, our page on how to choose an SEO agency explains why the ranked lists in this category are built the way they are. For the fee structures behind the famous names, see advertising agency in London, which no other page on this site links to: measured on 21 October 2026, 962 of the 2,082 pages live on this site carry no durable inbound link from any other page.
Questions about famous marketing agencies
Who are the biggest marketing companies in the world?
By revenue the answer is the holding groups, and that is a financial ranking rather than a recommendation. It tells you who owns the most agencies, not who will do your job well.
Does being famous mean an agency is good for a small business?
It means they have large clients. Your position on a client list decides what you actually receive, so for a small budget the question is which named person works on your account and for how many hours.
Why would an assistant name a firm I have never heard of?
Because that firm published something that answered the question specifically. An answer is assembled from pages, and the trade press is not where buying questions get answered.
Can I get my agency named in these answers?
The work is publishing answers to real buyer questions at the specificity of a price, a limit or a method, and being present at the sources an engine already reads in your market. Start by measuring which questions you are absent from.
Why do the two engines behave so differently?
Concentration. One leans heavily on a small, entrenched set of documentation style sources; the other spreads almost flat across many small sites. The same page is worth a different amount in each.
