Zoho SEO: the settings in Zoho Sites and Zoho Commerce, where each one lives, and what they leave to you
Meta fields, robots.txt, sitemaps, 301 redirects and product schema, taken from Zoho's own feature pages and help guides.

Zoho SEO usually means one of two products: Zoho Sites, the website builder, or Zoho Commerce, the online store builder. Both have built-in SEO settings, so you do not need a plugin. You get editable SEO titles and descriptions, a robots.txt you can customise, an auto-generated XML sitemap and 301 redirects, and Zoho Commerce adds schema markup on product pages automatically. The job is to fill those fields properly on every page and product, set redirects whenever a URL changes, and then write pages that deserve to rank. This guide covers both products, using Zoho's own feature pages and help documents as read on 22 October 2026.
Which Zoho product you are on decides where the settings live
Zoho sells many apps, and people searching "Zoho SEO" are sometimes looking at the wrong one. Zoho CRM, Zoho Campaigns and Zoho Marketing Plus are marketing and sales tools. They do not host your website, so they do not change how Google sees it. The two that do are:
| Product | What it is | SEO features Zoho lists |
|---|---|---|
| Zoho Sites | Drag-and-drop website builder | Meta titles and tags, robots.txt, auto-generated sitemap.xml, 301 redirects, a schema generator, SEO reports on keyword density and readability, keyword suggestions, and a field for a Google Analytics tracking ID |
| Zoho Commerce | Online store builder with orders, inventory and shipping | SEO titles, descriptions and keywords for products, categories, collections, pages and blog posts, a customisable robots.txt, an auto-updating sitemap, 301 redirects, and automatic schema markup on product pages |
If your marketing runs in Zoho but your website sits on WordPress or Shopify, your SEO settings are in that platform, not in Zoho.
Zoho Sites: the five things to set up
1. A title and description for every page
Zoho Sites lets you add a meta title and description to each page. Write the title for the search a person would actually type, with your brand at the end if it fits. Write the description as a plain promise of what the page answers. Google decides what to show in results, but its title link guide says the page title is one of the main sources it uses, so a clear one is worth the minute it takes.
2. robots.txt, checked rather than guessed
Zoho describes its robots.txt as a way to say which parts of the site should be crawled and which should stay out of search. Use it to keep out things like thank-you pages or internal test pages. Never block the whole site by mistake, and remember that robots.txt stops crawling, not indexing. If a page must never appear in Google, it needs a noindex instead.
3. The sitemap, submitted
Zoho Sites builds sitemap.xml for you and lists all pages. Submit its URL in Google Search Console and in Bing Webmaster Tools. Then watch the indexing report in Search Console, which tells you how many of those pages Google has chosen to index and why it skipped any.
4. 301 redirects whenever a URL changes
If you rename a page, Zoho Sites can send the old address to the new one with a 301 redirect, which Zoho describes as keeping the SEO value of the old URL. Make this a habit: every renamed or deleted page gets a redirect to its closest replacement on the same day.
5. Structured data from the schema generator
Zoho lists an auto-generated schema generator for structured data. Use it for the facts that help a search engine understand the business: name, address, opening hours, and FAQ or product details where they apply. Then test the page with Google's Rich Results Test or validator.schema.org to confirm the markup is valid.
Zoho Commerce: the store settings
Product, category and collection SEO
Zoho's knowledge base says product pages are structured for indexing by default and that Zoho Commerce generates schema markup for them automatically. You can then improve each product by editing the product title, meta title, meta description, image alt text and URL handle in the product settings. Categories and collections have their own SEO title, description and keywords too.
A good order of work for a catalogue:
- Start with the categories and collections that match broad searches, such as "linen shirts" or "office chairs". These are often the pages that can rank first.
- Then the best-selling products. Give each one a URL handle in plain words, a title that names the product and the attribute people search for, and alt text that describes the photo.
- Write product descriptions in your own words. Copy supplied by the manufacturer appears on many stores, so it gives Google little reason to rank yours.
Pages and blog posts
For each store page, Zoho Commerce's help guide shows SEO Title, SEO Keywords and SEO Description fields under Online Store > Pages, and the page URL is generated from the page name. Zoho's guide says the keywords entered decide how the page ranks. Google said in 2009 that it does not use the keywords meta tag in web ranking, so treat that field as optional and spend your effort on the title, the description and the words on the page. The blog has its own SEO title and description, which is useful for buying guides and how-to posts.
Redirects when a product URL changes
Zoho's steps for this are specific: go to Settings > Online Store > SEO, open the 301 Redirect tab and click + Add 301 Redirect. Enter the old path as the Request URL, choose the Destination Type (Pages/Files, Products, Categories or Collections), pick the destination and save. Do it for every discontinued product that had traffic or links, pointing it at the closest current product or its category.
What the settings will not do for you
Built-in tools make a Zoho site readable. Rankings still come from three things no setting can switch on:
- Pages that match real searches. A service business needs one page per service and, where it serves several towns, honest pages about the work it does there. A store needs category pages with a useful introduction.
- Proof that other people trust you. Links from suppliers, local press and industry sites, and reviews on the places your customers read them.
- Speed and mobile use. Check your key pages in PageSpeed Insights. Large uncompressed images are the usual problem on builder sites.
Zoho's own SEO reports, which look at keyword density and readability, are a useful prompt while you write. Read them as a checklist, not a score to chase: a page that answers the question clearly beats a page tuned to a density number.
If your marketing also runs in Zoho, the Zoho Marketing Plus bundle is where email, social and campaign tools sit, which is a separate job from the site's search settings.
Questions about Zoho SEO
Is Zoho Sites good for SEO?
It has the core tools: per-page meta titles and descriptions, robots.txt, an automatic sitemap, 301 redirects and a schema generator. Ranking well then depends on the content and links you add.
Does Zoho Commerce add product schema automatically?
Yes. Zoho's knowledge base says Zoho Commerce generates schema markup on product pages to help search engines crawl, understand and index them. Check a product URL in the Rich Results Test to see exactly what it outputs.
Do I need a separate SEO plugin for Zoho?
No. Zoho Commerce says its SEO tools are built in with no extra plugins or coding needed, and Zoho Sites lists its SEO tools as part of the builder. You still need Google Search Console, which is free, to see how Google indexes the site.
Does Zoho CRM or Zoho Campaigns help my SEO?
Not directly. They manage contacts and email. They can help you collect reviews or promote new content, but the site's SEO settings live in Zoho Sites or Zoho Commerce, or in whatever platform hosts your site.
Should I fill in the SEO keywords field?
It does no harm, but Google has said it does not use the keywords meta tag for ranking. The title, the description and the text on the page matter far more.
Asking an assistant about a business built on Zoho
Some of your buyers will ask ChatGPT or Gemini for a shortlist before they ever search. The answer an assistant gives draws on pages that state plain facts: what you sell, where, at what price, and what customers say. The SEO fields above help with that, and the schema Zoho generates helps too. Whether an assistant actually names your firm for your main service is a different question from where you rank, and it is the one AI Knows Us measures.
