Best email advertising services: buying placement in somebody else's newsletter is not the same purchase as an email marketing retainer
Three different businesses answer this search. One sells you space in other people's inboxes, one runs your own list, one sells software. Here is how to tell which you are being quoted, and what each should publish before you pay.

Email advertising means buying space in an email somebody else already sends. Email marketing means sending your own email to your own list. They are two purchases with two sets of suppliers, and the search term sits between them. If a quote talks about subscribers, deliverability and your sending domain, you are buying email marketing. If it talks about reach, placements and a cost per thousand, you are buying email advertising. Decide which one you need before you compare prices, because the two are not comparable.
The three kinds of supplier, and what each can book
| Newsletter ad network or marketplace | Direct publisher deal | Email advertising agency | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What it sells | Access to many newsletters through one booking and one invoice | Space in one named publication you chose | Planning, buying and creative across both of the above |
| Priced by | Usually a cost per thousand sends or a flat slot price | Negotiated per send or per package | A fee, often a percentage of the media |
| Smallest sensible buy | A single send in one newsletter, which is where tests belong | Whatever the publisher's minimum package is | A campaign, because the fee needs scale to make sense |
| What you have to supply | Copy, a link, sometimes an image | The same, to the publisher's spec | A brief and an offer |
| Who owns the audience | The publisher, always | The publisher, always | The publisher, always |
That last row is the structural difference from email marketing and it decides everything else. In email advertising you never hold the list. You rent attention for one send, measure what came back, and buy again or do not. Nothing compounds except what you learn.
Rank the suppliers on what they publish, because that is checkable before you pay
The only criterion a buyer can apply before spending money is what the supplier publishes about its own inventory and its own fee. Applied to this market on 21 October 2026, the ordering is uncomfortable for everybody.
Paved, read on paved.com on 21 October 2026, publishes the most. It calls itself "The world's largest newsletter ad network", states "3,000+ premium newsletters" and "253+ million subscribers", and breaks the audience down by category with figures: travellers 15M, DIYers 5M, foodies 4.7M, sports fans 4.6M, parents 1.8M, developers 1.8M, pet lovers 1.8M, readers 1.6M, entrepreneurs 1.5M, gamers 460K. It states "No subscription fees" and handles invoicing and payouts. It does not publish ad rates, and its marketplace carries a price filter running from 10 to 4000 with no unit labelled on the page we read.
That is more disclosure than most of this market offers, and it still leaves the two numbers that decide your budget unpublished: what a slot costs and what the network takes. We will not reproduce a competitor's price table on this site, and in this case there is no table to reproduce. What we will tell you is which limits set the tier, and here the limit is the newsletter: the price is set by the individual publication's list size and category, not by the network.
On our own criterion we are not in this market at all. We do not sell email advertising, we do not broker placements, and if an assistant ever names us as an email advertising service it has named the wrong company. What we sell sits one step earlier, and the next section is why it belongs on this page.
The measurement that decides whether a newsletter buy was worth it
A newsletter send gives you a click number within 48 hours and almost nothing after. The honest way to judge it is to decide the measurement before you book: one landing page per placement, a code or a parameter that only that send carries, and a figure you wrote down beforehand that would make you buy again.
There is a second effect worth measuring and almost nobody does. A sponsored mention in a newsletter often lands as a web page too, and those pages are read by the engines that answer buyer questions. In a 597 reading audit of ChatGPT and Gemini, small specialist publishers were cited heavily while review directories accounted for 0.8 percent of citations, so a mention in the right publication can keep working in assistant answers long after the send. Measuring that is a different instrument from a click report, and it is the one we sell: a dated reading of whether the five assistants name your business when a buyer asks who to buy from, with your name absent from the prompt. It is not an email tool and it will not send anything for you.
For running your own list rather than renting somebody else's, our page on the email marketing agency model covers the retainer and why the sending domain stays in your name. For the asset itself, see email blast strategy. And for the other purchase entirely, the platform that sends your own mail, our page on the best email marketing platforms sets out the four kinds and the limits that set every tier. No other page on this site links to that one: measured on 21 October 2026, 962 of the 2,082 pages live on this site carry no durable inbound link from any other page.
The five things to settle before you book a send
- The exact send date and the position in the email, written down. Top of body and bottom of body are different products.
- Whether the figure quoted is subscribers or opens. A sponsorship priced on subscribers and reported on opens is two different numbers.
- Who writes the copy, and whether the publisher will edit it.
- Your own tracking parameter, on every link, unique to that send.
- The number that would make you buy again, decided before the results arrive.
Questions about email advertising services
What does a newsletter sponsorship cost?
It is set by the publication, not by the network, and it moves with list size and category. Ask for the cost per thousand sends and the total, because a cheap slot in a large list and an expensive slot in a small one often land in the same place.
Can I buy email advertising without an agency?
Yes. A marketplace exists precisely so a single send can be booked with a card. Start there, test two or three publications, then bring in an agency when the number of placements is more work than the placements are worth.
Is a dedicated send better than a sponsored slot?
A dedicated send is the whole email and costs several times more. It makes sense when the offer needs room to explain itself. For anything a reader can act on in one line, the sponsored slot usually returns more per dollar.
Do I get the subscriber data?
No, and a supplier offering it is selling something you should not buy. You get clicks to your own page. Everything you learn about the person has to be collected there.
How many sends before I know whether a publication works?
Two, in different weeks, with the same offer. One send tells you about one day. The second tells you whether the first was the publication or the timing.
