Best free affiliate software compared, and the vendors whose free plan turns out to be a trial

Four well known affiliate platforms were read on one day. One publishes a plan at zero dollars, three publish free trials, and one publishes no free option at all

Published by AI Knows Us · Updated 22 October 2026

Free means two completely different things on an affiliate software pricing page, and the difference is whether there is a date attached. A free plan runs indefinitely with limits. A free trial runs for days and then bills you. Four vendors were read on one day, 21 October 2026, and they land in three different places.

The criterion

Vendors are ranked on whether a plan at zero dollars is published, and what it allows. That is checkable on a public page in under a minute, and it is the thing the search is actually asking.

First, UpPromote, which publishes a plan at zero dollars

Read on uppromote.com/pricing on 21 October 2026, UpPromote publishes a plan named Free, at "$0 /month", described as "Discover with essentials". It allows 1 affiliate program, and its comparison table lists "$3,000 referral review per month" under a row labelled "Review referrals per month". The performance fee on that plan is listed as None.

Two honest notes about that reading. The page does not use the words free forever, so the plan is a published zero dollar tier rather than a stated permanent commitment. And the $3,000 limit is expressed in dollars of referral value rather than as a number of orders, so the exact ceiling in transactions depends on your average order value. A store with a $50 average order is looking at roughly sixty referred orders a month before that limit matters.

It ranks first because it is the only one of the four with a published price of zero. It is also the one with the narrowest scope, being built primarily around ecommerce storefronts, so first on this criterion is not first for every buyer.

Second and third, Rewardful and Tapfiliate, which publish trials and call them free

Both publish free access with a date on it, and both are clear about it on the page.

Rewardful, read on rewardful.com/pricing after getrewardful.com/pricing returned a 301 to it, publishes no free plan. It states "Every plan includes a 14-day free trial, unlimited affiliates and a 0% transaction fee on affiliate-attributed revenue". Its tiers are set by affiliate attributed revenue rather than by affiliate count: Starter at $49 a month for up to $7,500 a month in affiliate attributed revenue with 1 campaign and 2 team members; Growth at $99 a month for up to $15,000; Enterprise at $149 and above for up to $30,000 on the entry tier. Affiliates and visitors are unlimited on all three.

Tapfiliate, read on tapfiliate.com/pricing, publishes no free plan either and offers graduated trials of 7 days on Launch, 14 on Scale and 30 on Enterprise, noting that after the trial "your subscription starts automatically and billing begins". Launch is $89 a month with 1 affiliate program, 50 affiliates, 5,000 clicks a month and 500 conversions a month on 1 seat, with overage fees published at $1.50 per thousand clicks and $15 per thousand conversions. Scale is $179 a month with unlimited programs and affiliates, 100,000 clicks and 10,000 conversions on 5 seats.

Of the two, Tapfiliate publishes the harder limits and Rewardful publishes the simpler model. Rewardful's revenue based tiers are the more honest fit for a SaaS business, because the bill scales with what the channel earns. Tapfiliate's click and conversion caps are the better fit for anybody who needs to know the ceiling in advance, and the published overage rates mean exceeding it is a cost rather than a surprise.

Fourth, Trackdesk, which publishes no free option

Worth including precisely because it is often described as the free one. Read on trackdesk.com/pricing on 21 October 2026, Trackdesk publishes no free plan at all, only an "Assisted 14-Day Free Trial", and its published floor is Business at $299 a month with 5 seats and 10 active offers, then Enterprise at $499 and Enterprise PLUS from $1,199. Conversions and affiliates are uncapped on every tier, which is a genuinely generous model, and the entry price is three times Tapfiliate's.

This is the clearest reason to check a pricing page on the day you need it rather than trusting a summary of it.

What every free tier in this category withholds

The same two things, consistently. Payouts at scale, meaning the ability to pay many affiliates in several countries with records a finance team accepts, and program count, since free tiers almost always allow one. If you need two programs, one for creators and one for resellers, you are on a paid tier whichever vendor you pick.

Which suggests the sensible path. Start on UpPromote's zero dollar tier or on a trial, prove that affiliates send any revenue at all, and move to a paid tier when the payout administration rather than the tracking becomes the work. Most affiliate programmes fail at recruitment, not at tracking, and no software fixes recruitment.

The answer an affiliate link does not appear in

An affiliate review is a bet that a person reads it, clicks the link and buys. That bet is being hedged by this category's own vendors. PartnerStack lists "Answer Engine Optimization" in its solutions menu under the line "Turn every Ai answer into revenue", and states "Ask questions, review performance and take action inside Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and more". impact.com carries a platform navigation item called "AI product", described as "Discover, optimize, and get cited in AI search". Both read 21 October 2026, and neither publishes a price for it.

They are describing a real difference. An assistant answering "best affiliate software with a free plan" writes a paragraph naming two or three products, built from pages the reader never opens, and no affiliate link is clicked at all. A brand can have a hundred affiliates publishing reviews and go unnamed in it. AI Knows Us reports which brands get named, across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews, and publishes its own price while doing it. Read on https://www.aiknowsus.com/pricing on 23 October 2026, Growth is $299 a month for 100 buyer questions watched and 1,200 scheduled answers a month across those five surfaces, and the $149 SEO Start plan publishes zero questions, zero credits and zero engines, so it is not the plan that reads them. One credit is one buyer question, asked on one AI app, once, and a Claude check uses 3; the pricing page sets Growth at 1,200 scheduled answers a month. It tracks no commissions and pays no affiliates, so it measures beside a programme rather than running one.
