Best affiliate marketing software and affiliate tracking platforms compared, on the limit that sets each tier
Three searches, one purchase. Every vendor claims the same features, so compare the metered unit instead: tracking requests, referral orders, affiliate revenue or payout volume. One of them matches your business.

Every affiliate platform does the same four things: register partners, issue tracked links and codes, attribute orders, and calculate what you owe. The feature grids are therefore nearly identical. What is not identical is the METERED UNIT, the thing that runs out and forces an upgrade, and the vendors meter four completely different things.
Match the unit to your business and the shortlist is two names. Get it wrong and you will outgrow the plan in month three.
The four metered units, and who uses which
Tracking requests a month. Post Affiliate Pro meters on this, published at postaffiliatepro.com/pricing, read 21 October 2026: its entry tier is $89 a month with 10,000 tracking requests a month and unlimited affiliates, and the next tier up moves to 1 million tracking requests a month. That is a hundredfold jump in the metered unit between two adjacent tiers, which tells you the entry tier is for a small programme rather than a busy site. It also publishes more than 125 plugins on the entry tier and more than 220 integrations on the next, plus a stated setup and integration service.
Reviewed referral orders a month. UpPromote meters on this at uppromote.com/pricing, published as 300 on one tier, 600 on the next and unlimited above. Its commercial model is a recurring fee plus a performance fee on approved referral sales, and the performance percentage falls as the tier rises, from two percent down. It publishes a free plan and states that paid plans run up to a published monthly maximum for enterprise users.
Monthly revenue from affiliates. FirstPromoter meters on this at firstpromoter.com/pricing: its tiers are bands of affiliate driven revenue, starting at $49 a month for up to $5,000 a month of affiliate revenue, then $99 for up to $15,000, then a higher tier above that. It states it is trusted by 3,000+ SaaS businesses, publishes a 14 day free trial with no card, and publishes unusually specific attribution controls including cookie life up to 9,999 days and a first click or last click choice.
Included partner payout volume. Impact meters on this at impact.com/pricing, from a self serve tier at a small monthly fee plus a percentage of revenue, limited to a named set of ecommerce platforms, up to tiers with large included monthly payout capacity. It publishes "No overage fees, you only pay for what you use above your included capacity" and a $250 an hour onboarding rate above self serve.
Flat subscription with feature tiers. Tapfiliate publishes this shape at tapfiliate.com/pricing, with an entry tier at $89 a month, a discount for annual billing, more than 30 pre built integrations named including Shopify, BigCommerce and Stripe, multi level referral features on the higher tier, automated payouts through a payments provider, and full white label on its enterprise tier. Refersion, at refersion.com/pricing, publishes a free marketplace listing tier where affiliates can view and apply to your offer, then named paid tiers, with its enterprise tier described as a flat monthly subscription with white glove onboarding.
The ranking, on one checkable criterion
Ranked on how clearly each vendor publishes its metered unit and the limit that sets each tier, which is what a buyer can verify before any call: Post Affiliate Pro and FirstPromoter first, because both publish the unit and the number beside the price. UpPromote and Impact next, publishing both the unit and the fee structure including the performance percentage. Tapfiliate and Refersion after them, publishing prices and feature tiers with the usage unit less explicit. PartnerStack last of the software vendors, since partnerstack.com/pricing publishes named tiers and the choice between affiliate link tracking and lead and deal registration, but no price. That ranks disclosure. It does not rank fit, and fit is decided by the unit rather than by the order.
One practical caution on the figures. A price fetched by a browser can be local to where the request came from, so treat the published limits as the durable fact and re check the currency and amount for your own country before you commit.
The five mechanics that decide whether the software works in your business
How it attributes. Coupon code, tracked link, direct URL or sub ID. FirstPromoter publishes all four plus the cookie life and the click model, which is the most specific disclosure of this in the group.
Whether a refund reverses the commission automatically. If it does not, you will be clawing back payments by hand.
What it writes onto the order, so your own reports can be reconciled against the platform's.
Multi currency behaviour, if you sell in more than one.
Payout rails and tax paperwork, since paying two hundred partners manually is the hidden cost nobody models.
The conversion the software cannot see
Affiliate software is attribution software. It sees a click or a code and an order. There is now a decision path with no click and no code in it: a buyer asks an assistant who to buy from in your category, the answer names two or three businesses, and the reader opens nothing. Your tracking platform will record none of it, and the buyer may well arrive later as direct traffic.
The platforms in this market have started charging for the measurement. Impact lists "AI Search Visibility" as a named add on. PartnerStack carries "Answer Engine Optimization: turn every AI answer into revenue" in its own solutions navigation. Later sells Creator AEO at later.com/creator-aeo, stating "Less than 10% of what AI says about your brand comes from content you own".
AI Knows Us measures that, and we are not affiliate tracking software. We issue no links, attribute no orders and pay no partners, so this is a separate line rather than a competitor to anything above. We ask ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews real buyer questions that never name your business, report which businesses were named instead of you, and run the content and placement work that changes who gets named. One credit is one buyer question on one app once, and a Claude check costs three because it runs through the Anthropic API with live web search.
We are metered too, and on this page's own criterion we publish the unit and the limit. Read 21 October 2026 at aiknowsus.com/llms.txt, in plain text, and in six currencies at aiknowsus.com/pricing: SEO Start at $149 in the United States watches 0 buyer questions, holds 0 credits and reads 0 engines, Growth at $299 watches 100 buyer questions with 1,200 scheduled answers on five engines, Scale at $599 watches 300 with 3,500 scheduled answers, and a top up of 1,000 credits is $49. On publishing the metered unit and its limit we rank first among the vendors measuring AI answers. Where rivals beat us: Profound publishes "Up to 9 Answer Engines tracked" and "SSO/SAML + SOC 2 compliance" at tryprofound.com/pricing, where we publish neither single sign on nor a SOC 2 report, and Ahrefs Brand Radar reads seven surfaces to our five.
Store level mechanics decide whether any of this software actually works on an ecommerce site, and the search layer is part of that. We keep a separate page on predictive search on Shopify, what it returns and how to make your catalogue match. No other page on this site links to that one, measured on 21 October 2026 across the 2,227 stored bodies that cover our 2,141 live pages, of which 939, or 43.9 percent, carry no inbound link at all. That share is an upper bound, because a link from a page whose body we cannot read is invisible to the count.
What merchants ask about affiliate tracking software
Which is cheapest? The cheapest tier is whichever vendor's metered unit you consume least of, which is why two businesses of the same size pick different vendors. A busy site on a low tracking request tier is the classic expensive mistake.
Codes or links? Both. Codes survive the move between phone and desktop and give partners something to say out loud. Links attribute more precisely in one session.
Do I need a network as well? Only for publisher supply. If you know your partners, software alone is cheaper and you keep the relationships.
