Best local rank tracker compared, ranked on how precisely each one lets you set the location

A local ranking is not one number, it is a map. The tools that let you set a point rather than a city are the ones answering the question, and that is the ranking.

Ask a national rank tracker where you rank for plumber and it gives you a number. Ask a local rank tracker and it gives you a grid, because the answer genuinely changes from one street to the next. If your customers come from a radius rather than a country, the grid is the product and the single number is the thing to stop buying.

The criterion on this page: how precisely can you set the location, and what does the vendor publish about it? City level, postcode level or a coordinate. That one capability separates the category.

Why a single local position is the wrong unit

Google serves map results by proximity to the searcher. A business can sit first in the map pack for somebody standing outside its door and fall out of the top twenty two miles away. So a tracker reporting one position for a local query is reporting one sample from one point, and which point it chose is usually invisible.

The grid tools answer this by taking a reading at many points across an area and drawing the result as a map. That is a different measurement and it costs differently, because every point is a request.

What each vendor publishes, read on 21 October 2026

Local Falcon prices the grid directly and publishes the unit. localfalcon.com/pricing describes itself as a way "to track the rank and local AI visibility of any business listing" and publishes credit tiers: "Starter $24.99 billed monthly, 7,500 credits", "Basic $49.99 billed monthly, 15,150 credits", "Pro $99.99 billed monthly, 31,250 credits" and "Premium $199.99 billed monthly, 63,150 credits", with keywords and locations both marked unlimited and "+100 Free Credits on sign up". Its feature matrix names "Variable Grid Sizes", "Scheduled Scans", "Local Keyword Research", "AI Visibility Tracking", "White Label Reports" and a Local Falcon MCP. The credit model is honest about what you are buying: a grid scan is many readings, so it costs many credits.

BrightLocal publishes a "Local Search Grid" described as "Visualize how you rank against competitors across map locations" on brightlocal.com/pricing, read the same day, alongside a "Local AI Visibility Tracker", "Citation Builder", "White-labelling, Customize all tools and reports with your branding" and an "Agency Lead Generator". Two published details are worth having: citations are billed separately, "starting at $3.20 per site, or as low as $2 with bulk credits", and it names the aggregators it submits to, "the five Local Data Aggregator Networks: Data Axle, Neustar Localeze, Foursquare, Yellow Pa[ges]". Its "Advanced GBP insights" line offers "18 months of historical data" and the trial is "14 days of full access" with "No credit card is required". Its free tools are named individually: a Local Search Results Checker, Local RankFlux and a Google Review Link Generator, with paid plans offering "Extra daily free tools usage".

SE Ranking covers local inside a general platform. seranking.com/pricing.html, read the same day, lists Local Marketing Software in its product navigation and publishes "2k keywords and 100 prompts to track daily" with "10 projects and 1 manager seat" at "$129.00 /mo". A phrase tracked in three locations is three keywords against that allowance, on this and on every platform in the category.

Wincher lists Local SEO as a named product in its navigation and publishes "from 500 keywords" and "up to 10 websites" on its small plan at wincher.com/pricing, with the price rendering as an ellipsis in a plain fetch.

The general trackers will set a location, usually to city or postcode. AccuRanker publishes "Keywords 2,000 3,000 5,000" at "$224 / month" on accuranker.com/pricing; Nightwatch publishes readings "Tracked daily, in any location or language" on nightwatch.io/pricing. Both are fine for a single city business and neither draws a grid.

The ranking, on the stated criterion

On location precision and what the vendor publishes about it, the order on 21 October 2026 ran: Local Falcon first, because the grid is the product, the grid size is variable, and the credit cost of a scan is published so you can compute it. BrightLocal second, very close, and first for anybody who also needs citations and reputation in the same tool, with the named aggregator list as the strongest piece of disclosure on that page. SE Ranking third, because local sits inside a platform with the seats and projects published. Nightwatch and AccuRanker joint fourth: any location, no grid. Wincher fifth on price readability rather than product.

The arithmetic of a grid

This is where local budgets go wrong. A seven by seven grid is 49 readings for one keyword at one scan. Ten keywords scanned weekly is 49 times 10 times about 4.3, which is around 2,100 readings a month, and every credit based vendor is pricing exactly that. Start with a smaller grid on more keywords, then tighten the grid on the two or three phrases that bring calls.

The local answer with no grid at all

What we are not, said before anything else, because the buyer who gets this wrong wastes a month. AI Knows Us does not sell a keyword tool, a rank tracker or a SERP API. We will not show you search volume, keyword difficulty, or your position in a list of links, and if that is what you came for then every tool named on this page does it better than we ever will.

Two vendors on this page have already noticed where this is going: BrightLocal publishes a Local AI Visibility Tracker and Local Falcon publishes AI Visibility Tracking, both beside their grid products. The reason is that a local buyer increasingly asks a question in a sentence, gets three business names back, and never sees a map at all. There is no position in that answer to track, which is why it needs a different unit.

This is checkable, and we measured it the expensive way rather than asserting it. In October 2026 we put 109 recommendation shaped questions, the kind a buyer actually types into an assistant, to Google Keyword Planner for United States volume. Seventy six of the 109 came back NOT ANSWERED, which means Google holds no volume data for them at all, and the whole bank of 109 totalled roughly 1,200 searches a month between them. Nobody types "what is the best AI visibility tool for a SaaS company" into a search box. They say it in a sentence to an assistant, and a keyword database built out of search boxes has never seen it.

What we do sell is the reading of a demand no keyword tool has ever seen. When a buyer asks ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude or Google AI Overviews who to buy from, in a sentence that never names you, we record whether your name comes out, who was named instead, and which page the engine cited. Then we run the content and placement work that changes it. A credit is one buyer question put to one app once. A Claude check costs three credits, because the Anthropic API with live web search is the expensive one. Most checks cost one.

Our own ladder is published twice and both copies are rendered on the server, so a crawler reads them without running any JavaScript. aiknowsus.com/llms.txt is plain text, and aiknowsus.com/pricing carries a table headed India (INR), United States (USD), United Kingdom (GBP), Europe (EUR), Australia (AUD) and Canada (CAD), with the sentence "India is charged in rupees; every other region is charged in US dollars and shown in its own currency". Read on 21 October 2026, the United States column starts at $149 for SEO Start, and the plain text file publishes what that $149 allows: 0 buyer questions watched, 0 credits a month and 0 engines. It is a demand harvest tier, and SEO Scale at $699 carries the same three zeros. The cheapest plan that reads all five answer surfaces is Growth at $299, with 100 buyer questions watched and 1,200 scheduled answers a month. Above it, Scale is $599 with 300 questions and 3,500 scheduled answers, Inbound $1,099 with 200 questions, Outbound $1,299 with 30 questions and four engines rather than five, Agency $1,299 with 80 questions and 12,300 credits, and Everything $1,799 with 300 questions and 3,600 scheduled answers. A top up of 1,000 credits is $49. Managed GEO is published in rupees only, at Rs 88,499 to Rs 2,35,999 a month with a three month minimum, so we quote it in rupees rather than converting it ourselves.

Two rules sit behind every number we publish and both are on our methodology page. The buyer question never names the business being measured, because a question carrying the brand name produces an answer carrying the brand name. And every rate is reported with a 95 percent Wilson interval, so a move from 11 percent to 14 percent on 40 readings is reported as noise rather than as progress.

Where a rival is ahead of us, here it is plainly. Ahrefs Brand Radar, read at ahrefs.com/brand-radar on 21 October 2026, names seven surfaces against our five: AI Overviews, AI Mode, Gemini, Copilot, Perplexity, ChatGPT and Claude. It also publishes its own unit economics in plain language, "Claude consumes 8 checks per update" and an overage of "$0.020/check", which is more disclosure than we publish. SE Ranking, read at seranking.com/pricing.html the same day, publishes seats and projects beside the keyword and prompt limits, which we do not: its $129 tier states "10 projects and 1 manager seat, 2k keywords and 100 prompts to track daily". Nightwatch, read at nightwatch.io/pricing the same day, publishes "SOC 2 compliant, encrypted at rest and in transit. SSO on Enterprise" and white label client reports. Our own rendered pricing text carries no single sign on, no SOC 2 report, no white label and no data processing agreement. Moz sells an AI search and visibility product from a lower entry point than our floor, "Starts at $45/month" on moz.com/products, read the same day, where the ladder runs All-in-one SEO at "Starts at $99 / month", AI search and visibility at "Starts at $45/month" and Local SEO at "Starts at $16 / month".

On this page's criterion we are last, and the page should say so plainly: we do not set a grid, we do not track map positions, and for local rank tracking the two specialists above are the purchase. Where we rank first is one narrow thing: of the vendors read on 21 October 2026, ours was the only one publishing the buyer questions watched, the credits, the engines and the check cadence for every tier in a server rendered plain text file, which makes our bill computable without a call.

For the wider platform question rather than the tracking question, we keep a separate page on the local marketing platforms and local SEO software compared, for a business with more than one location. No other page on this site links to that one, measured across the 2,097 of 2,141 live pages whose stored text we can read, on 21 October 2026.

What local businesses ask about rank tracking

Is a grid worth the credits? For a service area business, yes, because the grid shows you where you are invisible and that is where the work goes. For a single shop with walk in trade, a smaller grid is enough.

How often should a local scan run? Weekly for the phrases that produce calls, monthly for the rest. Map results move less than people expect once your profile is stable.

Why does my own phone show me first? Because you are standing next to the business and Google knows it. Your phone is the least reliable local rank checker you own.
