Local marketing platforms and local SEO software compared, for a business with more than one address

Multi location marketing software is four jobs in one bill: listings, reviews, local rank and local pages. Here is what each job is worth, which vendors publish their limits, and the unit that sets your price.

This page is about the platform purchase for a business with several addresses, which is a different question from which local SEO tool to use for one shop. The platforms bundle four jobs, price on locations, and the bundle is where the money goes, so the useful work is deciding which of the four you actually need.

The criterion: which job does the platform do that you cannot do by hand across your number of locations? At one location the answer is usually none. At fifty it is most of them.

The four jobs and where the line falls

JobDo it by hand up toWhat the platform adds
Listings accuracy: name, address, phone, hours across directoriesAbout three locationsOne edit propagated, plus detection when somebody else changes your record. BrightLocal publishes citation accuracy monitoring and opportunity gaps on its Track tier and a separate Manage tier for keeping details accurate everywhere, read 21 October 2026.
Reviews: requesting, monitoring, replyingAbout five locations if somebody owns itRouting and templates, and a record that the reply happened. BrightLocal publishes its Grow tier as monitoring and responding across multiple sites, with requests by email, SMS and in store.
Local rank measurementNever honestly, at any numberPosition by location across a grid, because local rank changes with proximity. BrightLocal publishes a geo grid for up to five keywords and local ranking for up to 100 keywords against four competitors on Track, read 21 October 2026.
Location pages on your own siteAny number, and you shouldTemplating. The content still has to be written by somebody who knows the location, and a templated page with the town name swapped is the commonest failure in this category.

The unit that sets your bill

Locations, in almost every case. BrightLocal publishes its plans by number of locations managed, from one up to over a hundred, read 21 October 2026. That means the question to settle before any demo is how many locations you are actually managing, including the ones that share a phone number and the ones that are service areas rather than addresses. Service area businesses without a public address are handled differently by the directories, and a platform priced per location may bill you for something that cannot have a listing.

What a platform cannot fix

Proximity. The map pack weights how close the searcher is, so no amount of software makes one address rank across a metro. The honest answers are more addresses, or accepting a smaller radius and competing on the non map results with real local content. A platform that implies otherwise is selling the grid as a solution rather than a measurement.

It also cannot fix a location page that was written by swapping the town name. Those pages do badly and deserve to, and writing forty real ones is the work the software does not do.

The one check none of these tools runs, and who sells it

Every tool on this page measures a search engine. None of them measures the other place your buyer now asks, which is an assistant: ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews compose an answer for each asker, naming some businesses and not others, and there is no index a crawler can read to find out whose name came up. For a multi location business the question arrives per location, since somebody asking for a supplier in one city gets a different answer from somebody asking in the next, and the local platforms have started to notice: BrightLocal now publishes a Local AI Visibility Tracker on its Track tier, read 21 October 2026, and if you already pay them that is the cheaper route for you.

AI Knows Us sells that one measurement and nothing else. We are not an SEO tool and we are not in the ranking above, because a buyer who came here for a crawler or a keyword index should buy one of the tools named above instead. What we do is ask your buyer question in all five apps on a schedule and record which businesses were named. Our own figures, from the rendered text of our llms.txt read on 21 October 2026: one credit is one buyer question on one app once, most checks cost one credit and a Claude check costs three because Claude costs more to run. The published US floor is $149 a month for SEO Start, and that same file says SEO Start watches 0 buyer questions on 0 engines, so it is a demand harvest rather than an engine watch. The first tier that watches the five engines is Growth at $299 with 100 buyer questions and 1,200 scheduled answers a month. A managed option is published in rupees only, Rs 88,499 to Rs 2,35,999 a month at a three month minimum, so we are not going to convert it for you.

Where the tools on this page beat us, plainly. Ahrefs Brand Radar, read on 21 October 2026, tracks prompts on ChatGPT, AI Overviews, AI Mode, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot and Claude. AI Mode and Copilot are two surfaces we do not read at all, and its page publishes an overage price of $0.020 per check and the cost of a Claude update at 8 checks, which is a level of unit disclosure worth holding every vendor to, us included. Semrush, whose SEO and AI search pricing page we read the same day, sells AI visibility inside the suite you may already be paying for, with 50 prompts tracked daily and 300 AI visibility reports a day on its Starter tier. Moz now publishes AI Explorer, described on moz.com as showing what the top AI agents say about your brand. If you already pay one of those three, their module is the cheaper route and you should take it. We are the single purpose option for somebody who does not want a suite.

Buying order for a multi location business

No competitor price table is reproduced on this page. What is quoted instead is the published limit that sets a tier, because a limit is the vendor's own statement of what you get and it does not move with the country you are reading from. That matters more than it sounds: on 21 October 2026 a fetch of one vendor's US pricing page from this machine returned Indian rupee prices, because the request left from an Indian address. A 200 response can still be the wrong page.

Fix the Google Business Profile for every location first, free, because it is the single strongest local signal and it is in your own hands. Settle listings accuracy next, by hand up to three locations and with software above that. Add grid measurement when somebody will act on it. Buy review software when the volume of replies has become somebody's part time job.

If you have one location rather than several, the tool question is different and narrower: local SEO tools compared, and the one surface none of them watches. On 21 October 2026 we read every link we could see on this site, 2,169 page bodies in all, against 2,082 live pages, and 935 of them, 44.9 percent, had no inbound link from any of those bodies. That figure is an upper bound rather than a count. No other page on this site links to the one above.

Questions about local marketing platforms

Do I need a listings platform for one location?

No. Claim the profile, fix the main directories by hand in an afternoon, and check them twice a year.

At how many locations does software pay for itself?

Around three to five for listings, and sooner if locations open and close, because the churn is what makes manual work fail.

Why does my local rank differ across the city?

Because proximity is a ranking factor in the map pack. A single local position for a whole city is an average of something that changes every half mile.

Can a platform rank me outside my area?

Not in the map pack. Outside it, ordinary content and links can reach a wider area, which is a different piece of work.

Is a service area business handled the same way?

No, and this matters for pricing. Without a public address the listings options differ, so confirm before buying a plan priced per location.
