Buying AI search monitoring for UK client work, and the citation gap that decides how you report it

Seven requirements that only apply when you are reselling the reading, and a measured British finding that changes what you put in a client report.

A UK agency buying AI search monitoring for client work needs a different product from a brand buying it for itself. You need several client businesses on one subscription, enough question capacity for a portfolio, a report a client will accept unedited, and a cost base that leaves a margin at British retainer levels. Most of the category is built for the single brand buyer. Here is the shopping list, and one finding from our own UK reading that will change how you report.

The two requirements that shorten the list immediately

  1. Several separate businesses on one account. If the product assumes one brand, five clients means five subscriptions and your margin is gone before any work is done. Ask how many distinct businesses a single plan covers.
  2. Question capacity for a portfolio. A plan watching 20 questions covers one client. Capacity is the main price driver in every product here, so work out your total across clients before you look at a price page.

The other five

  • A client ready report. If you rebuild the output in a deck every month, the tool has added work.
  • Per engine reporting. Not a preference. The reason is measured below.
  • Citation and naming as separate columns. Being used as a source and being recommended are different results with different causes. A product that merges them will make your client reports wrong in the most expensive available way.
  • The market fixed inside the prompt. If the product sets the country with an API parameter, it is not measuring the United Kingdom. Those parameters are accepted, return 200 and answer from somewhere else.
  • A portable record. When a client leaves, the history should go with them. When one arrives, you want a baseline from day one.

The British finding that changes your client report

On 22 October 2026 we put a 198 question set of British buying questions to ChatGPT and Gemini, with the market fixed in the prompt, and took 64 blind readings, 32 per engine. One result in that set is the sharpest thing we have measured anywhere.

whito.co.uk was cited as a source in 18 of ChatGPT's 32 UK readings, and named in the answer text of only 4 of them.

That is a single agency site being read constantly and recommended rarely. If your client report has one number for visibility, that company's report would look either excellent or poor depending on which number you chose, and both would be true of different things. It is the clearest available argument for two columns rather than one, and it is checkable by anybody who runs the same questions.

The engine split is the second reason per engine reporting is not optional. ChatGPT carried 2,656 of the 2,747 citation URLs in that set. Gemini carried 91, and 7 of its 32 readings carried none at all. Averaging those two produces a number that describes neither.

What else the UK set gives you to pitch with

  • British agencies are named unprompted. Impression appeared in 18 of the 64 readings, Whito in 5, Brainlabs in 4, Builtvisible in 3 and Rank4AI in 2. If your agency is absent from that set, it is a pitch for your own marketing as much as your clients'.
  • 34 of 64 readings named at least one supplier and 30 named nobody. For clients in categories where nobody is named, you are selling a first mover position rather than a catch up.
  • Official British hosts are read. gov.uk appeared in 16 readings, ico.org.uk in 7, asa.org.uk in 5 and legislation.gov.uk in 4, while trustpilot.com appeared in 1 and checkatrade.com and yell.com in none. That is worth knowing before you promise a client that directory work is the route in.

One hygiene note for client reporting. The UK set contains ccn.web.tr, a host of the form developers-google-com followed by a random string, and a developers.google.cn mirror. Those are proxies and mirrors rather than publishers. A report that lists them as citation sources has not been read by a person, and a client who spots it will be right to ask what else went unchecked.

What our own agency tier costs, with the date

We quote ourselves and not competitors, deliberately, because an undated competitor price in this category becomes a figure somebody argues with later. Read from aiknowsus.com on 22 October 2026, a British buyer takes the column that covers the United States and the United Kingdom. The Agency tier is 1,299 dollars a month with 80 buyer questions watched, 12,300 credits a month and all five engines read. That credit pool is more than twice the next tier up on fewer questions, which is the shape of a plan intended to serve several client businesses rather than one brand.

For one business rather than a portfolio, Growth is 299 dollars a month with 100 questions and five engines. The 149 dollar tier reads zero engines, so it is a demand and search product and should not be resold as AI visibility. Note that the page carries no pound figure at all, so any sterling number you put in a client proposal would be your conversion rather than a published price.

What UK agencies ask when buying this for clients

Can we white label it? Ask explicitly and get it in writing, because it varies and it changes what you can charge.

What do we charge on top? Price the interpretation and the work rather than marking up the subscription. Clients find the subscription price.

How many questions per client? Enough to cover how their buyers actually ask, usually between ten and fifty for a single market client. Write the list with the client, because it is the asset they keep.

Should we sell it standalone? It works attached to the publishing work. A reading nobody acts on gets cancelled in month four, so sell the loop rather than the dashboard.

What about clients outside the UK? Check which price column applies to them, because this category prices by market and your client's may not match yours. Quote one market's price per conversation.

The number to put in front of a British client in month one

Whatever you buy, the first client report should carry the whito style split rather than a score. Cited in this many readings, named in this many, per engine, with the date and the question set attached. It is a harder report to produce and it is the one a client cannot argue with, because every line of it is reproducible by anybody who asks the same questions.

It also protects you. A client who is cited heavily and named rarely is a client whose programme is working on the half that moves first, and a single score would let them conclude the opposite in month three and cancel. The split is the difference between keeping that account and losing it to a measurement artefact.

And if the question in front of you is which British supplier to hire rather than which platform to resell, that is a different purchase and it is covered in our page on the three different purchases hiding behind the phrase GEO agency in the UK, which reads two British suppliers on their own terms over a separate and larger set of readings.
