Digital Marketing in Delhi: Consultant, Agency or Your Own Hire

The three ways a Delhi business can buy this work, what each costs in rupees, and how to judge a consultant who has no credentials deck to show you.

There are three ways to buy digital marketing in Delhi, and the right one depends on whether your problem is a shortage of hands or a shortage of judgement. Hire an agency when you need hands: campaigns run, pages written, posts made, a monthly report. Hire a consultant when you need judgement: somebody senior for two to four days a month who decides what to do, writes the brief and holds whoever executes it to account. Hire your own person when the work is permanent, large enough to fill a week and specific enough that nobody outside the business can learn it quickly. As my own read of Delhi rates rather than a surveyed figure, an agency retainer here runs INR 30,000 to 1,50,000 a month, an independent consultant charges INR 15,000 to 50,000 a day or INR 40,000 to 1,50,000 monthly, and an in house executive costs a salary plus the tools. Every fee carries 18 percent GST.

Most Delhi businesses unhappy with their marketing bought hands when they needed judgement. They have three agencies' worth of activity and nobody who decided what the activity is for.

What a Delhi digital marketing consultant actually does for the fee

The job is narrower and more useful than the title suggests. A consultant worth the day rate produces four things.

  • A diagnosis. Where your enquiries come from, what each costs, which channel carries the business and which is paid for out of habit. Two days, and it often changes the budget before anything else happens.
  • A plan with a sequence. Not a list of channels. An order, with reasons, and a note on what to stop. The order matters more than the list.
  • Briefs other people can execute. The real output, tight enough that an agency or a junior can be held to it.
  • A review rhythm. One monthly session where the numbers are read and the next month is decided. Without it the plan survives about six weeks.

What a consultant does not do is the work. The sensible Delhi structure is a consultant for two days a month plus a mid sized agency or two freelancers underneath, and it frequently costs less than one large retainer.

Fee picture, as I read the Delhi market

  • Consultant day rate, senior independent: INR 15,000 to 50,000, the top of the band for people who have run marketing at a recognised company.
  • Monthly advisory, two to four days with a review call: INR 40,000 to 1,50,000.
  • One off diagnosis and plan, in three to four weeks: INR 75,000 to 2,50,000.
  • Agency retainer, one or two channels: INR 30,000 to 60,000 a month.
  • Agency retainer with a writer and designer across search, social and paid: INR 60,000 to 1,50,000 a month.
  • Senior freelancer on a single channel: INR 20,000 to 60,000 a month.

These are working figures for sanity checking a quote, not a rate card. Advertising spend sits outside all of them, inside accounts you own, and the deduction at source on professional fees is set up once with your accountant. For the rest of the country, what digital marketing costs in India helps if you are also quoting a Bengaluru or Pune supplier.

Judging a consultant when there is no credentials deck

An agency arrives with a deck. An individual arrives with a conversation, which is easier to judge if you ask for the right things.

  • Two accounts, and what changed. The business, the problem, the decision, the number before and after. Vague answers here are the clearest signal available to you.
  • Ask what they stopped. Good consultants are known for what they switched off. Somebody who has only added channels has never taken a position.
  • Pay for the diagnosis first. One or two days, before any monthly arrangement. You learn more from that than from six meetings, and the output is yours either way.
  • Check they will sit in front of your team. A lot of this is still settled in a room in Delhi, and a consultant who will take a difficult meeting with your sales head is worth more than one who sends documents. Ask who else they work for too, so you know the days are free and no client of theirs is your direct competitor.

And anybody selling a specific Google ranking for a monthly sum is selling something outside their control, as Google's own advice on choosing a search provider says. An experienced consultant names the queries reachable in two quarters instead.

Your trade cluster decides the channel mix

Delhi is not one market, it is a set of trades, and the right channel mix follows the trade more than the budget.

  • Wholesale and trade buyers, as in Karol Bagh, Chandni Chowk, Sadar Bazar. Search and WhatsApp carry this, along with a catalogue that can be sent in one message. Instagram is a shop window here rather than a sales channel.
  • Technology resellers around Nehru Place. Search intent is high and the buyer is comparing specifications. Product pages and clear pricing beat creative campaigns. Manufacturers and exporters in Okhla, Bawana and Narela need the same thing in English, aimed at buyers who are not in India.
  • Clinics, salons, restaurants and local services across South and West Delhi. Maps, reviews and paid local campaigns. The Google Business Profile is the cheapest and highest return item on the sheet.
  • Institutes in Mukherjee Nagar, Laxmi Nagar, Rajinder Nagar. Admission cycles, so the money front loads into two or three windows and the content has to prove results honestly.

Tell a consultant or agency which of those you are before they propose anything. The ones who ask first are worth meeting.

Scope the first month so it can be judged

One geography note first. Gurugram firms charge the most and bring the most senior bench, Noida firms often quote lower for comparable teams, and Delhi firms are the easiest to visit. For monthly digital work the address matters less than whether your named people attend the review call, and hiring an SEO company across Delhi NCR handles the contract side.

Whoever you hire, make month one a foundation and measurement month with a named output list rather than a campaign. Accounts created in your name. Analytics and Search Console verified. A completed Google Business Profile. One tracked phone number, so you know which channel is ringing. A page of baseline numbers: enquiries last month, by source, with a cost against each. Month two then starts from a number rather than an opinion. If search is the priority, the costs and package contents are broken down in what SEO costs in Delhi, and if content is where the budget goes, the city's wide price spread is explained in the Delhi content marketing guide.

Buying digital marketing in Delhi: the questions owners send

Is a digital marketing consultant in Delhi better value than an agency?

For a business that already has people and activity, usually yes, because you pay for the decisions rather than the hours. With nobody doing the work, an agency is the better first purchase and a consultant can be added later to hold it to account.

What is a reasonable day rate for a senior consultant in Delhi?

INR 15,000 to 50,000 a day is the working band I use, with the upper half for people who have carried a real marketing budget at a known company. Below it you are usually buying an executor rather than an adviser, which is fine if you know which you are getting.

How many days a month of consulting does a Delhi business need?

Two covers most: one day on the plan and the briefs, one on the review. Four is right when there are juniors to manage or more than three channels running at once.

Should the consultant hold my ad accounts?

No. Create Google Ads, Meta, Analytics, Search Console and the domain yourself, in your business name, and grant access. An afternoon of work, and it removes the only real leverage a departing supplier has.

The consultant search that happens inside a chat window

A Delhi business looking for help increasingly starts by typing the question into ChatGPT or Gemini rather than opening a page of search results, and gets back three or four suggestions with a reason attached to each. Those answers are assembled from pages, profiles and reviews the system could read, which is why a well known consultant with no readable presence sometimes does not appear. The same is happening to your business as well as your suppliers, and nobody invoices you for a place in it. AI Knows Us answers exactly that. It runs the buyer's question across the assistants and reports the businesses named, with the sources behind each name. The answer for your own category sits behind one query at aiknowsus.com. A consultant who already has a view on this is thinking about where enquiries come from next year rather than last year.
