How to create a Quora business profile and answer questions transparently: a dated, step by step checklist

The setup protocol, the fields to log per attempt, and why a single successful setup is one observation and not a success rate.

You create a presence on Quora by setting up an account, completing the profile with your role and your company stated plainly, and answering questions where you can be useful, disclosing your commercial interest in the answer itself. That process is worth publishing as a protocol with a result attached, and the result has to be counted honestly: attempts completed, out of attempts started, on a date, under conditions written down in advance. As of 29 September 2026 we have completed zero setup attempts under a published protocol, so the count on this page is 0 of 0 and there is no success rate. If we run one attempt and it works, that will be one observation and we will label it as one observation, because one attempt is not a rate and cannot become one by being described well.

The answer, first

Five statements.

Setup is not the hard part. Being useful in public with a commercial interest is. An account takes minutes. Writing answers that a stranger finds useful, while stating that you sell something in the area, is a habit rather than a task.

Our count is 0 of 0 as of 29 September 2026. Zero attempts completed out of zero attempts started under the protocol below. No screenshots, no timings, no outcome. The protocol is published so that the first attempt, ours or yours, produces a countable row.

One attempt is one observation. If your first attempt reaches a live profile, the honest sentence is "1 of 1 attempt reached a live profile, on this date, under these conditions", and never "our setup succeeds" or a percentage. This rule exists because a single result presented as a rate is the most common dishonesty in this whole field, and it is usually accidental.

Disclosure goes in the answer, not only in the profile. A reader lands on one answer from a search. They do not visit your profile first. One plain sentence in the answer itself is what makes it transparent.

We do not restate the platform's own policies. The documents to read are the platform's help material on business or organisation presence, its policies on self promotion and on writing about your own company, and its content guidelines. Read the current versions, quote what you rely on into your sheet with the URL and the read date, and save a copy.

How it was measured

One. Write the conditions down before the attempt. An attempt is only countable if the conditions are fixed in advance. We use seven: the country the account is created from, the account type being attempted, the email domain used, whether any identity or employment evidence is supplied, the browser and whether it is signed out at the start, the date and time of the first step, and the definition of success. Our definition of success: a profile that is visible to a signed out visitor and correctly states the person's role and company.

Two. Log twelve fields per attempt.

  • Attempt number, and the date and time it started.
  • The country and language settings used.
  • The account type attempted.
  • Every field the setup asked for, listed as it asked.
  • Whether any verification was requested, and what it asked for.
  • Whether the attempt reached the success definition, yes or no.
  • The date and time it reached it, or the step where it stopped.
  • Any message received, quoted.
  • The profile URL, once live.
  • Whether the role and company are visible to a signed out visitor.
  • The disclosure sentence written for use in answers, quoted.
  • A saved copy of the guidance you followed, with its URL and read date.

Three. Print the denominator arithmetic, and label the size. Report attempts reaching the success definition out of attempts started, as of a date. 1 of 1 is a row. 3 of 4 is four rows and still not a rate. If you ever have enough rows to describe a median time to a live profile, print the number of rows next to the median, and if you have one row, say plainly that one observation is not a median.

Four. Write the answering protocol before you answer anything, in six rules.

  • Answer only questions you can answer without your product. If the honest answer needs your product, say so at the end, after the useful part.
  • Disclose in the answer, in one identical sentence every time. For example: I work at a company that sells a tool in this area, so treat this as an interested opinion.
  • Name your sources with dates. An answer that says where a figure came from is the kind that gets quoted, including by machines.
  • State your limits. What the approach does not do, and who should choose something else.
  • Never post the same answer twice. Rewriting for each question is the difference between participation and spam.
  • Log every answer with the date, the question URL, whether your product was mentioned and the disclosure sentence used.

Five. If you are measuring whether this changes AI answers, measure it blind and separately. Freeze 20 to 100 buyer questions in a versioned, dated file with your brand name in none of them. Ask each three times per assistant on the same day and keep all three answers. Print the arithmetic: 25 questions times 3 repetitions times 3 assistants is 225 answers, so 8 answers naming you is 8 of 225 on the named dates. The blind rule has a measurement behind it. On 27 July 2026 two runs of the same 78 questions happened on the same day for clawlaw.in. The branded run returned the company first on almost every question. The blind run put it second by breadth and absent from the litigation due diligence questions it most wanted to win. The branded run was discarded, because the only thing it had measured was our own prompt.

Six. Treat any search claim as a claim. In the aiknowsus.com audit of September 2026, Perplexity withdrew its own earlier statement when asked how many of the questions it had actually searched for, saying it could not honestly substantiate the claim, and in another batch that its claim to have searched all five was not adequately supported. Three separate batches.

What the numbers were

Setup attempts started under this protocol: zero. Attempts reaching a live profile: zero. As of 29 September 2026. So 0 of 0, and no success rate, no median time, no step where things usually go wrong.

What we refuse to publish. A success rate from one attempt. A typical setup time. A count of answers that "usually" get views. A claim about how the platform's search behaves. Every one of those would be invented, and each would be indistinguishable on the page from something measured.

The nearest real fractions we hold, with their sectors named.

  • 0 of 6, our own category. Asked six questions about its own category with no brand named, Perplexity audited itself afterwards in September 2026 and reported that it had not cited or recommended aiknowsus.com in any of the six answers. AI visibility tooling, September 2026.
  • 1 of 18, legal research software in India. Across eighteen blind commercial questions on 18 August 2026, ChatGPT made clawlaw.in the top source on exactly one, and named the company's own comparison page in the answer as still being the vendor's own editorial page.
  • One dated first citation, legal research software in India. On 6 August 2026 ChatGPT cited clawlaw.in/blog/how-to-check-a-companys-court-cases-in-india as a source for a vendor due diligence question, fourteen days after that page was published, in a zone where the same question set had named the company nowhere at baseline. One page, one citation, one date. Not a timeline.

The third one is the closest thing we hold to evidence about writing publicly and being picked up, and notice how small it is. It is one page and one citation. A page that tells you a platform will get you cited, without a denominator, is telling you less than this.

What this cannot tell you

  • It cannot tell you whether your setup will succeed. We have no attempts logged, and platform requirements change by country and account type.
  • It cannot tell you how long setup takes. One attempt would not tell you either, and we would say so on the page.
  • It cannot tell you whether answering questions brings business. That needs an attribution method we have not published.
  • Our fractions above are AI visibility tooling and legal research software in India. Neither is evidence about your sector, and moving them would be exactly the error this batch avoids.
  • Nothing here promises a position in an AI answer.
  • The platform's policies govern, not this page. Where they contradict anything here, they win, and we will correct the page.

Sources and change log

Sources. The conditions, the twelve fields, the six answering rules and the blind protocol are ours. The dated results come from the aiknowsus.com audit of September 2026 across 24 batches and 72 conversations, and from the clawlaw.in programme in Tier_1/GEO_BASELINE_RESULTS_2026-07-27.md and Tier_1/GEO_GAP_ANALYSIS_2026-08-18.md. The 6 August 2026 citation names a public URL and can be checked from outside. The capture wide counts cannot, until we publish the captures. No platform policy is paraphrased here.

Change log. 29 September 2026, first publication, stating 0 of 0 attempts. The first attempt will be added here with all twelve fields, labelled as one observation and not a rate. A median will appear only when there are enough rows to order, with the row count printed beside it.

Common questions

Is a business profile better than answering from a personal account?

The honest answer is that we have not tested either, so we will not rank them. What matters in both cases is that a reader of a single answer can see who you are and what you sell, in that answer. Read the platform's own material on which account types exist for organisations and record what you find with the date.

How many answers should we write per week?

We hold no figure and will not invent one. A defensible target is the number you can write well while naming sources and stating limits, which for most people is small. Log every one, and after a month you will have your own number instead of somebody else's.

Can we link to our own pages in an answer?

Only where the platform's rules permit it and where the link genuinely answers the question, and always with the disclosure sentence in the same answer. Read the self promotion policy, quote it into your sheet with the date, and keep the saved copy.

Do answers on these platforms get used by AI assistants?

Sometimes material is used without being credited, and we have that documented in a different setting: on 17 September 2026 Claude admitted it had used two specific arguments drawn from clawlaw.in pages and had dropped the attribution in both places, describing it as a citation lapse rather than a ranking judgement. Treat being used without credit as a real outcome your measurement should have a slot for, or your audit will score it as nothing.

What is the single most useful thing to put in an answer?

A number with its source and its date, and a sentence about what the approach cannot do. In our own runs, unsourced figures were discounted even when correct, on 17 September 2026, and stated limits are the cheapest credibility available to anybody writing in public.

If our first attempt fails, is that worth publishing?

Yes, and it is more useful than a success. Publish the step where it stopped, the message you received quoted, and the conditions. A failed attempt with twelve fields filled in is a genuine contribution, because nobody else publishes those.

What to do first

Write the seven conditions and the success definition down today, before touching the platform. Then read the platform's own policies on organisation presence and self promotion, quote what you rely on with the URL and the read date, and save copies. Make one attempt, fill in all twelve fields, and label the result as one observation. That single honest row puts you ahead of every article on this subject, including this one.
