Law firm marketing agencies the assistants named, and which published prices hold up
Eight firms across two engines, one firm named by both, and every quoted figure checked against the vendor page on 22 October 2026.
Published by AI Knows Us · Updated 22 October 2026
Asked which marketing agency a United States law firm should use, ChatGPT and Gemini between them named eight firms and agreed on one. Both engines quoted the same three published figures for that one firm, Grow Law, and we confirmed all three on its own pricing page. Everything else in the two answers splits into prices you can open in a browser and prices that are not on the page the engine linked. This page separates the two, firm by firm, with the URL and the date against each.
The question, the engines and the dates
"What is the best marketing agency for a law firm in the United States", put to the ChatGPT and Gemini product surfaces through a data provider on 21 October 2026 at 22:20 and 22:38 UTC. No agency name and no product name was in the question. Both engines ran a live search for this one. ChatGPT returned 23 source citations, Gemini returned 2.
ChatGPT ranked Attorney Pro Marketing first for pricing transparency, then Grow Law, JurisPage and Rathly, and added MarketCrest as a comparison. Gemini ranked Rankings.io first for personal injury, then Hennessey Digital, Grow Law Firm and SmartSites. Grow Law is the only firm both engines put in front of a buyer.
What each named firm publishes, read on 22 October 2026
| Firm | Named by | Price the engine gave | What we read on the vendor page |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grow Law | Both engines | SEO 2,500 a month, PPC 1,450, website design 599 | All three confirmed on growlaw.co/pricing. That page also carries an All Access Pass priced 4,549 a month, shown struck through to "from 4,299 a month", which neither engine mentioned. |
| Attorney Pro Marketing | ChatGPT, first | Google Business Profile management 297 a month, Google Ads 997 a month plus 15 per cent of ad spend | Both confirmed on attorneypromarketing.com/law-firm-marketing-agency, in a published table, with a free one week trial on the profile service and month to month terms on both. |
| MarketCrest | ChatGPT, as a comparison | Packages start at 2,450 a month | Confirmed on marketcrest.com/pricing/, alongside a growth package at 3,950 a month minimum and a published a la carte list. |
| Rathly | ChatGPT, fourth | SEO from 4,000 a month, website design 9,000 | rathly.com/industries/law-firm/, the exact URL the answer linked, returned 200 and renders 2,921 words with no dollar figure in them. |
| JurisPage | ChatGPT, third | Described as advertising published pricing, no figure given | No figure was offered by the engine, and none is quoted here. |
| Rankings.io | Gemini, first | Minimum project sizes typically from 5,000 a month | rankings.io returned 200 and renders 1,374 words with no dollar figure. |
| Hennessey Digital | Gemini, second | Minimum retainers generally around 5,000 a month | hennessey.com returned 200 and renders 3,629 words of results, including a live client at plus 412 signed cases and organic site value moving from 41,200 to 747,000 dollars, and no retainer price. |
| SmartSites | Gemini, fourth | Minimum project budgets from 1,000, hourly 100 to 149 | smartsites.com/pricing/ returns HTTP 404. |
Three of the five firms ChatGPT mentioned carry a verifiable published figure: Attorney Pro Marketing, Grow Law and MarketCrest. Of the four Gemini named, one does, Grow Law, and Gemini quoted its three published rates correctly while presenting its other three ranges under the heading "public pricing". The firms themselves are well known and the work may be excellent. The point is narrower and it is the only one a buyer can act on: on 22 October 2026, three of the eight published a number on their own site and five did not.
The a la carte list is where a legal budget is actually decided
MarketCrest publishes the most itemised list in the set, on marketcrest.com/pricing/, read 22 October 2026: Local Services Ads at 550 dollars a month, offsite SEO bought in 1,000 dollar increments, additional content at 200 dollars an hour, an email campaign at 600 dollars, premium video at 3,000 a month, public relations and media placement at 2,000 a month, and a Facebook lead programme at 2,000 a month plus 20 per cent of ad spend.
Attorney Pro publishes the other model in full on the URL above: a five page firm website from 1,500 to build with 297 a month for hosting and care, with the site owned by the firm; a landing page at 750 to 1,000 to build with 97 a month; and pay per lead at 100 to 350 dollars per verified lead, priced by practice area, with no setup fee and no retainer. It also states that ad spend is paid directly to Google from the firm's own account, which is the single clause that decides who holds the account if the relationship ends.
Put those two side by side and the real question stops being which firm is best. It is whether you are buying a retainer, a channel, or a lead, because the three cannot be compared on a monthly number.
Cost per signed matter is the number nobody published
The unit that decides whether legal marketing worked is cost per signed matter, and it appears in none of the eight vendor pages as a price. Hennessey publishes signed cases as a result, 412 of them for one client across 24 months, with no cost attached. The closest thing to a per outcome price anywhere in the set is Attorney Pro's 100 to 350 dollars per verified lead, and a verified lead is not a signed matter.
So the calculation stays on your side of the table. Take your own average fee per matter by practice area, your own consultation to signature rate, and divide the all in monthly cost, agency fee plus media, by signed matters. Ask every firm on your shortlist to report that single number monthly, and to say in writing which calls it counts. Our wider comparison of law firm marketing agencies and the claim shapes that tell you what you are buying sets out the claim types to look for before you sign.
The bar rules sit above all of this
Both engines raised advertising compliance without being asked. ChatGPT told the buyer that the firm remains responsible for compliant advertising, including claims, testimonials and lead generation arrangements. That is the right instinct and it is where a cheap pay per lead arrangement gets expensive: your state bar rules govern fee sharing and referral payments, and the vendor's contract does not. Read the lead vendor's model against your own state's rules before the first invoice, not after.
The same compliance question now applies to answers an assistant gives about your firm, because an assistant will cheerfully summarise your results page in words your bar would not allow. Our dated test of how often Gemini recommends law firms across named markets and practice areas is the repeatable version of that check.
The measurement missing from all eight proposals
Every firm above sells rankings, clicks, leads or cases. None of the eight arrived with a figure for how often an assistant names your firm when somebody asks a question that never mentions it. AI Knows Us is not a legal marketing agency. We write no campaigns, buy no media and build no firm websites, so this is not a bid against any firm on this page. We ask the buyer questions a client would ask, on ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews, and report which names come back and which sources produced them.
Our own published rates, from aiknowsus.com/llms.txt read 22 October 2026, held to the same standard this page asks of agencies: SEO Start at 149 dollars a month in the US watches 0 buyer questions on 0 engines, Growth at 299 watches 100 questions on all five engines weekly, Scale at 599 watches 300, Agency at 1,299 watches 80 across 12,300 credits. Growth is the cheapest plan that reads all five surfaces. Where a rival is stronger, by name: tryprofound.com/pricing, read 22 October 2026, publishes SSO and SAML with SOC 2 compliance, unlimited seats and up to nine answer engines on its enterprise tier. Our own pricing page, read the same day at 119,203 bytes, renders no SSO, no SAML, no SOC 2, no ISO and no data processing agreement, which a firm with a security questionnaire should know before it starts one.
What the measurement above does and does not establish. It is one question per engine on one night, so it fixes what each engine said then. It grades published disclosure and agreement between engines, not the quality of anybody's legal marketing. A page that returned 404 on 22 October 2026 may publish a full rate card next week, and the figure to trust is always the one on a proposal with your firm's name on it.
What law firm owners ask about agency prices and AI answers
Is the firm an assistant names first the best choice for my practice area
Read the order as one reading on one date. Two engines named eight firms and agreed on one, and they disagreed completely on who belongs at the top for personal injury. Use both lists to build a candidate set, then judge the three proposals you receive against the same scope and the same practice area.
Why did one engine publish price ranges that are not on the vendor sites
Gemini presented market estimates in the same format as published rates. Ranges like "minimum retainers generally around 5,000 a month" are a reasonable description of the legal agency market and they were not on rankings.io or hennessey.com when we read them on 22 October 2026. Ask for the figure in writing.
What does law firm marketing cost a month in the United States
From pages we verified on 22 October 2026: Google Business Profile management from 297 a month, paid search management at 997 a month plus 15 per cent of ad spend, website design from 599 a month, SEO from 2,500 a month, published packages at 2,450 and 3,950 a month, a consolidated plan at 4,299 to 4,549 a month, and pay per lead at 100 to 350 dollars per verified lead by practice area.
Is pay per lead better than a retainer for a small firm
It moves the risk, and it changes what your bar rules apply to. Pay per lead at 100 to 350 dollars per verified lead is a published price you can model against your signature rate and average fee. Read the definition of verified in the contract, and read your state's position on paying for referrals before you sign.
How do I check what assistants tell clients about my firm
Ask the question a client would ask, with the practice area and the city in it and your firm name left out, on each assistant, and record every firm named and every source cited. Repeat it a week later. The directories and agency blogs that keep appearing in those citations are the pages deciding your shortlist.
