Rankscale vs Ahrefs Brand Radar, two vendors who priced Claude separately and both landed on eight times a standard check
Rankscale publishes Claude at 2 credits against 0.25 for ChatGPT. Ahrefs publishes Claude consuming 8 checks per update against 1. Two independent price lists, the same multiple, which makes it the most reliable figure in the category.

These are the only two vendors in this set that publish what an individual AI surface costs, and the agreement between them is worth more than either figure alone. Read on 31 October 2026, the credit calculator on rankscale.ai/pricing publishes Google AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini at 0.25 credits each, DeepSeek at 1 and Anthropic Claude at 2, with an FAQ line stating that a query typically costs 0.25 credits per engine per prompt. On the same day ahrefs.com/brand-radar states that each prompt is checked daily on every selected platform, that 5 prompts on 1 platform equals 150 checks a month, and that Claude consumes 8 checks per update.
Two companies, two units, no reason to copy each other, and the same answer: measuring Claude costs about eight times what measuring ChatGPT costs. If you are building a budget for AI visibility, that is the number to plan around, because it is the only per surface figure in this category with two independent publishers behind it.
What that multiple does to a real prompt set
Take fifty buying questions tracked daily. The arithmetic below is ours, on each vendor's published rule.
| Prompt set | Rankscale, credits a month | Ahrefs, checks a month |
|---|---|---|
| 50 prompts, ChatGPT only, daily | About 375 | 1,500 |
| 50 prompts, four 0.25 engines, daily | About 1,500 | 6,000 |
| 50 prompts, Claude only, daily | About 3,000 | 12,000 |
| What the plans include | 1,200 on Pro at $99, 3,000 on Pro+ at $229, 5,500 on Growth at $385, 12,000 on Enterprise at $780 | Bundled with the SEO plans at 150 on Lite, 300 on Standard and 600 on Advanced, plus three custom prompt packages at $50 for 2,500 checks, $100 for 7,000 and $250 for 25,000 |
Read the bottom row twice, because it decides the page. Fifty questions on four engines daily is about 1,500 credits a month at Rankscale, which fits Pro+ at $229. The same set is about 6,000 checks a month at Ahrefs, which fits its Growth prompt package at $100 a month with 7,000 checks included and overage at $0.015. On that comparison Ahrefs is the cheaper of the two for this prompt set, by more than half, and both figures are on the vendors' own pages.
What Rankscale buys for the difference is breadth and control: 17 or more surfaces in one pool rather than the platforms you select, scheduling from hourly to monthly rather than daily, credit rollover, white labelled dashboard links, and unlimited seats against Ahrefs charging $40 to $80 a month for each extra user. The honest summary is that Ahrefs has the cheaper meter and Rankscale has the more flexible one.
It is also worth separating what Ahrefs bundles from what it sells. Rankscale Pro at $99 publishes 4,800 answers a month against the 150 checks bundled with a $129 Ahrefs Lite plan, so the bundled allowance is a sample rather than a product, and the real comparison is against the $50, $100 and $250 packages.
Where the money goes besides checks
| Published line | Rankscale | Ahrefs |
|---|---|---|
| Seats | Team workspaces with unlimited seats | 1 user included, then $40, $60 or $80 a month each by tier |
| Engines available | 17 or more, all from one credit pool | All platforms, with Claude available, on the Index plan |
| Scheduling | Hourly to monthly | Daily, with a custom refresh cadence on the Index plan |
| Unused capacity | Credit rollover up to two and up to three times, top ups any time | Overage billed at $0.020 a check on the Index plan |
| Prompt database | Prompt research, 5 free a month on Pro+ and 10 higher up | AI Visibility Index, published as 519 million real prompts, $199 a month |
| Crawler and bot view | AI visits on higher tiers, page audits 10 to 200 a month | Bot Analytics free while in beta, Web Analytics free, Site Audit on paid plans |
| Off site surfaces | Not published | AI Sources covering YouTube, TikTok and Reddit, free while in beta |
| White label | White labelled dashboard links, with API | Not published on these pages |
| Top tier | $780 Enterprise, plus an unpriced Custom plan with SSO and SLAs | $1,499 Enterprise, annual commitment required, SSO, audit log, no training on your data |
The database question, which is the real difference
Rankscale and Ahrefs disagree about whether you should write your own questions. Ahrefs publishes both options and tells you when each one applies, which is unusually straight: custom prompt tracking is recommended when your niche is too specific to show up in any database, and the AI Visibility Index is described as best once your brand already appears in AI search. So a new brand writes its own prompts and an established one buys the index.
Rankscale is prompt first with research attached. Search terms are published as unlimited, with creation unlimited and execution consuming credits, and prompt research is included at 5 a month on Pro+ and 10 a month higher up. Query fanout, ChatGPT follow up forms and a sources box analysis are published as features rather than as a separate dataset with its own price.
For a buyer who wants to know what people actually ask, Ahrefs publishes a number and a price, 519 million prompts at $199 a month, read on that date. For a buyer who already knows the questions and wants them run cheaply across many engines on different schedules, Rankscale publishes the better mechanism.
Which to buy
- Fifty or more questions tracked often, at the lowest price. Ahrefs, on its $100 a month Growth prompt package with 7,000 checks, which covers fifty questions on four platforms daily where Rankscale needs Pro+ at $229 for the same set.
- Fifty or more questions across many engines, on uneven schedules. Rankscale, from Pro at $99, because the credit pool spans 17 or more surfaces and the schedule is yours to set per question.
- You already pay for Ahrefs. Start with the included checks and the free bot and web analytics installs, then decide. Spending nothing first is the right order.
- Claude is a must. Either, and now you can price it: eight times a standard check at both, so budget the Claude subset separately rather than tracking everything on it.
- Several readers. Rankscale, on unlimited seats against $40 to $80 a head.
- You need the SEO data in the same place. Ahrefs, and that is the whole argument for it here.
The third published multiple, which is ours, and the two lines where we are behind
We publish a per surface weight as well, so the comparison extends to us. Read on 31 October 2026 our pricing page states that one credit is one buyer question asked on one AI app once, that most checks use one credit and that a Claude check uses 3, because Claude costs more to run. Against the eight times multiple both vendors on this page publish, that is three times, so on the narrow question of what Claude costs relative to a standard check we are the cheapest of the three and every figure involved is on a public page.
Two things on our page are plainly worse. Rankscale publishes unlimited seats on team workspaces and Ahrefs will sell you named users; we publish Logins included, 1, full access, and no single sign on at any tier. And our cadence is weekly on priority questions with 30 and 90 day cycles on the rest, where Rankscale publishes hourly to monthly and Ahrefs publishes daily. We also publish no prompt database and no backlink or keyword dataset, so the research half of this comparison is not a contest.
What our plans include that neither of these sells is the production side, 20 pages a month written and published on GEO Growth at $299 or Rs 11,799, and 40 a month plus a Visibility API on GEO Scale at $599, with all five engines and a published refund when a check fails.
If the Ahrefs half of this decision is partly about which of its tools you actually need to pay for, our page on the Ahrefs free keyword tool against the paid Keywords Explorer works through where its free line sits.
Questions about per engine pricing at Rankscale and Ahrefs
Is Claude really eight times the cost at both vendors
On their own published figures, yes, and they are stated in different units. Rankscale prices Claude at 2 credits against 0.25 for ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Mode. Ahrefs states that Claude consumes 8 checks per update where its stated baseline is one check per prompt per platform per day. Both read on 31 October 2026.
Which plan covers fifty questions on four engines daily
Both can, at different prices. Rankscale Pro+ at $229 publishes 3,000 credits against the roughly 1,500 that set consumes by its own weights. On Ahrefs that volume is about 6,000 checks a month by its own rule, which is above every bundled allowance and inside the $100 a month Growth prompt package with 7,000 checks. So Ahrefs is cheaper for this particular set, and Rankscale gives you more engines and control over when each one runs.
Does Rankscale have anything like the Ahrefs index
Not as a priced dataset. It publishes prompt research included at 5 a month on Pro+ and 10 a month on higher tiers, plus query fanout and a sources box analysis. Ahrefs publishes an index with a size and a price.
Which is cheaper for one person watching one brand
Rankscale at the very bottom, since Essentials is $20 a month or $17 yearly only. Above that it is closer than the tier names suggest: Rankscale Pro is $99 with 4,800 answers and an Ahrefs Basic prompt package is $50 a month with 2,500 checks, so price both against your own prompt set rather than against the plan labels.
Do either of them publish free tools
Ahrefs does, and prominently: AI traffic reporting as a free Web Analytics install and bot visit reporting as free while in beta, plus AI Sources across YouTube, TikTok and Reddit free while in beta. Rankscale publishes free trials of Pro rather than free tools.
What should I check before signing an annual term at either
At Ahrefs, that the $1,499 Enterprise tier states annual commitment required, and that the no training on your data line sits at that tier. At Rankscale, that Essentials is yearly only and that the yearly column saves 15 per cent across the other tiers. Both publish the condition next to the price, which is the right place for it.
How we know this
We read the assistants rather than guessing what they do. In our own audit of 1,260 saved answers from ChatGPT and Gemini across the United States, the United Kingdom and India, 82.0% of every citation landed on a site the business itself owned, and review directories took 0.7%. Counted as one domain per reading, 16,516 of 20,143.
That is the whole asymmetry: the pages you own are the pages an assistant quotes back to a buyer. See the dated readings and the method on our proof page.
Find out whether assistants name your business, on your own domain and your own buying questions.
