What a Singapore supplier actually includes when it sells AEO and GEO, read off three published service pages

Three Singapore sellers publish what the service contains and only one publishes what it costs, and comparing their own inclusion lists shows three different purchases hiding behind two acronyms.

Answer engine optimisation and generative engine optimisation are sold in Singapore as one line item and they contain three separable purchases. A technical access and markup job, a publishing and citation job, and a measurement job. The way to tell which one a supplier is selling you is to read its own service page, because the Singapore firms selling this do publish their inclusion lists even when they do not publish a price. We read three of them on 27 October 2026, all of them hosts that ChatGPT or Gemini cited when a Singapore buyer asked about this category on 26 October 2026.

The paid search section states there is no specific management fee and that setup, implementation and reporting are includedA comparable list across answer engine work and search, with the search side covering local search, technical and on page work, content strategy, competitor and keyword research, reporting and link building.

A supplier publishing no price is reporting an answer rather than withholding one. It tells you the figure is set in the room, so the comparison is yours to build, and the only published Singapore benchmark in this set is S$2,000 a month. Where GST applies, the current rate published by IRAS on 27 October 2026 is 9 per cent, with the same page's history table showing 8 per cent running to 31 December 2023, so a S$2,000 proposal is S$2,180 on the invoice.

The one item that appears in every list, and the one that should

Across the published lists, the item that recurs is citation presence, described as citation building across the named engines. That is the right centre of gravity, because it matches what the engines actually do. In our 26 October 2026 audit of 64 blind pipelines across 32 batches with Singapore locked, the engines cited 508 host entries resolving to 321 distinct hosts, and 229 of those hosts were a supplier's or vendor's own website while only 19 were directories. Answers in this market are assembled from published pages, so presence on the right pages is the work.

The item that should appear in every list and appears in only one of the three is measurement with a stated denominator. One page names visibility tracking and share of voice reporting. A share of voice figure is only meaningful if the proposal also says how many questions were asked, on which engines, on what date, and whether the brand name appeared in the prompt. A reading taken with your own company name inside the question is contaminated, and it will show a flattering result on any brand. Ask for the question list before you accept the first report.

The three purchases, separated, so you can buy the one you need

  1. Access and markup. Making the site readable to the documented crawlers, adding structured data, and deciding what an llms file should contain. This is a project with a finished state, it is cheap, and it is the one to buy first. OpenAI's own crawler documentation, read on 27 October 2026, states that the search agent governs whether a site is surfaced in ChatGPT's search features and that robots.txt changes take about 24 hours to take effect, so the feedback loop here is a day.
  2. Publishing and citations. Writing the pages that answer buying questions, getting the entity facts consistent, and earning presence on the third party hosts your own reading shows. This is the retainer part, it compounds, and it is where the S$2,000 a month figure above mostly goes.
  3. Measurement. A monthly reading across the engines with a fixed question list and the sources behind each answer recorded. This is the part that tells you whether the other two worked, and it is the part that should not sit with the supplier doing the work, for the same reason an auditor does not prepare the accounts.

What to put in the brief, in the supplier's own units

  • The question list, written out, with no brand name inside any question.
  • The engines covered, named individually rather than as AI search.
  • A monthly reading with the cited hosts listed, not just a score.
  • The access work listed as a one off deliverable with a completion date, separate from the retainer.
  • Who holds the measurement account and who can export the raw readings.
  • What the supplier will not claim. The honest version is that nobody controls what an engine names, and that the work raises the chance of being named by changing what the engine can read about you.

Two things worth refusing

A guaranteed naming or a guaranteed citation. There is no mechanism behind it, and one of the five Singapore files we read while checking crawler access says so in its own robots file, stating that robots.txt is advisory and does not guarantee crawler behavior, training exclusion, AI rankings, citations, or discovery. That is a competitor being straight about the limits of the technical layer, and it is the right standard. Where a result claim is made in advertising here, the conditions it has to meet are set out in our page on advertising a result or a guarantee in Singapore.

And a report with no denominator. A line saying visibility improved by a percentage, with no question count, no engine list and no date, is not a measurement. Ask for the three numbers underneath it and the conversation becomes a short one.

The grant line to settle before the net price is agreed

For a Singapore SME the net cost can differ from the quoted cost. Enterprise Singapore publishes the funding levels for the EDGE Grant at enterprisesg.gov.sg/financial-support/edge-grant, read on 27 October 2026, stating that applicants may receive up to 70 per cent for SMEs and up to 50 per cent for non SMEs. Separately, suppliers advertise their own pre approval status, and www.impossible.sg, read the same day, describes itself as a pre approved solution under the SMEs Go Digital programme with up to 50 per cent support claimed on its own page. Take the percentage, the eligibility and the current scheme rules from the government page rather than from a vendor brochure, because the brochure is the one that goes stale, and confirm which scheme actually applies to the service you are buying before you treat the subsidy as part of the budget.

Who to hire, and the honest state of the market

On who is best, the useful answer is that no vendor was named for Singapore at all. Across all 32 blind batches of our 26 October 2026 audit, no AI visibility product or specialist was named as the recommendation for a Singapore buyer. The vendors the engines did name sit in the adjacent search category, with Semrush named in 13 readings, HubSpot in 13 and Ahrefs in 11. So anyone telling you that the engines recommend them for Singapore is describing something that did not happen on that date.

Our own position, on a criterion you can check rather than a claim. AI Knows Us measures whether ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews name a business when buyers ask, shows the sources behind each answer, and aiknowsus.com will run a reading with no account step, so the measurement part above can be tested before any purchase. Where a rival beats us on the same criterion, two of them do. If your team already pays for Semrush or Ahrefs, the module inside that suite is the cheaper first reading because it is already on your invoice, and those two were also the names the engines handed Singapore buyers most often. And for the publishing and outreach half of the work, a Singapore agency with the people to do it will get more done than a measurement product will, which is why the three purchases above are worth separating rather than bundling. The vendor by vendor comparison on published terms is in which AI visibility tool a Singapore buyer should shortlist, the agency side is covered in which Singapore agency to pick for AI search visibility, and the markup tooling question is covered in our comparison of Schema App's published pricing.

Questions Singapore buyers ask about buying answer engine and generative engine work

Are AEO and GEO different services

In Singapore proposals they arrive as one line with two acronyms in front of it. What differs between proposals is which of the three purchases above is actually inside, which is why reading the inclusion list beats comparing the acronyms.

What should this cost in Singapore

The one published Singapore figure in this set is from S$2,000 a month, sitting beside search tiers at S$980 and S$2,980 a month on the same supplier's page. Two of the three suppliers publish nothing, so expect a quote rather than a price list, and ask for Singapore dollars with GST shown separately.

Can a small Singapore firm do the access part itself

Yes, and it should. Permitting the documented crawlers and checking that nothing at the edge blocks them is a short job with a roughly 24 hour feedback loop, and it is the one piece of this that needs no retainer.

How long before a reading moves

Access changes show within about a day. Publishing and citation work moves on the publishing schedule of the other sites involved, so judge it quarterly and judge it on the source list behind the answers rather than on a single naming.

Should the same supplier do the work and the measurement

Prefer not. Keep the reading in an account you hold, with the question list fixed and the raw readings exportable by you, so the monthly review is about the work rather than about the scoreboard.

The item on the list that decides the other five

Read the three published inclusion lists together and one item does the most work. Citation presence, meaning being on the pages an engine reads when somebody asks your buying question. Everything else on those lists either makes that possible, as the access and markup work does, or tells you whether it happened, as the measurement does. Brief the citation work as the centre, buy the access once, hold the measurement yourself, and the two acronyms stop mattering.
