Which Google My Business review settings can be turned off, and what Google says about disabling reviews
Seven ways of asking this question all have the same answer, and it is not the one people are hoping for. Google publishes no switch, so this page covers what you can actually control.

There is no setting to turn reviews off on a Google Business Profile. If that is the answer you needed, you can stop reading here. The rest of this page is about what you can actually control, because there is more of it than most owners realise, and about what Google's own documentation does and does not say.
What Google's own page says, and what it leaves out
Read at support.google.com/business/answer/4596773 on 21 October 2026, which is Google's own documentation rather than anybody's summary of it, the position is this.
On removal: "You can report any review, but only those that violate Google policies are eligible for removal." And explicitly, "Do not report a review just because you disagree with it or dislike it."
On reporting: "If you find a review on your Business Profile that violates Google policies, you can report it for removal." The route is the Reviews Management Tool, where you select Report next to the review, choose a reason and submit.
On timing: "Review evaluation typically takes several days." Progress is visible in the same tool, with statuses including "Decision pending", "Report reviewed - no policy violation" and "Escalated - check your email for updates."
On appeals: "If a flagged review doesn't qualify for removal, submit a one-time appeal." You can appeal up to 10 reviews at once and receive the result by email. Note the words "one-time", which means the appeal is not a process you can repeat on the same review.
And on turning reviews off, the page says nothing at all. That is worth stating precisely. It is not that Google documents a refusal. It is that the question is not addressed on the page, and no setting to disable reviews is offered anywhere in the profile interface. This page reports that silence as silence rather than converting it into a quotation Google did not write.
Why there is no switch, which helps in accepting it
A Business Profile is not your page in the sense a website is. It is Google's entry about your business, which exists whether or not you claimed it, and reviews are contributions from the public to that entry rather than content you publish. A business that could switch reviews off would make the whole system worthless to the people it exists for, so the control was never going to be offered. Claiming the profile gives you the ability to respond, correct and report. It does not give you editorial control, and that is the design rather than an oversight.
The five things you can actually control
The reply. The highest leverage thing available to you and the most underused. A calm, specific, non defensive reply is read by every future customer who sees that review, and a good reply to a bad review converts better than no bad review at all, because it demonstrates how you behave when something goes wrong.
The ratio. You cannot remove the one. You can make it the one in ninety rather than the one in nine. Asking every satisfied customer at the moment the job finishes is the only reliable method, and it is free.
Policy violations, reported properly. Reviews containing abuse, obvious spam, a competitor attack, off topic content or personal information are genuinely eligible. Report those, cite the specific policy, and do not report the rest, because a pattern of unfounded reports helps nobody.
The one time appeal, saved for the right case. It is one time per flagged review and up to ten at once. Use it on the clearest violation you have rather than on the review that upset you most.
The operational cause. Three reviews mentioning the same thing is not a reputation problem, it is a report. The review system is the cheapest customer research you will ever receive.
What not to do, because each of these makes it worse
Do not buy reviews. It is against Google's policies, it is detectable, and the downside is your profile rather than theirs.
Do not create a second profile to escape the first. Duplicate listings get merged or suspended and you lose the history you had.
Do not pay anybody who guarantees removal. Nobody has a mechanism Google does not publish. The route in the documentation above is the only route, and it is available to you for nothing.
Do not reply angrily, even once. The review ages. The reply is read forever and it is the only part of the exchange you wrote.
Why this page does not recommend a product
This site publishes recommendation pages and sells a measurement product, and on this page it names no product at all, deliberately. Somebody searching for how to switch off Google reviews has one problem and it is solved by a reply box, a review habit and Google's own reporting tool, none of which costs anything. Recommending software here would be selling to a reader who needs no software, and a page that names a product to a reader who does not need one is worth less than a page that answers the question and stops.
Scope
This page is about whether reviews can be turned off. It is not about getting one specific review taken down, which an existing page on this site already covers in full, including what qualifies, how to report it and what to do when it stays. If you have one particular review in mind rather than the setting, that is the page to read.
What owners ask
Can I turn off reviews for a while after a bad week. No. There is no temporary setting and no permanent one.
Can I remove my profile instead. You can remove your management of it. The entry and its reviews can continue to exist, and you would lose the ability to reply, which is the worst of both outcomes.
Does replying to a bad review make it more visible. No. It makes you more credible to the next reader, which is the person who actually decides anything.
How long until a reported review is decided. Google says evaluation "typically takes several days", and the status is visible in the Reviews Management Tool while you wait.
If what you want next is to audit the rest of the listing properly, our page on local SEO audit tools and the checks that need your own login. No other page on this site links to that one, measured on 21 October 2026 across 2,490 stored bodies (2,118 published drafts plus 372 fetched live pages) against 2,404 live pages, with my own wave excluded. 978 of those 2,404 pages, 40.7 percent, carry no inbound link from anywhere on the site, and that figure is an upper bound, because a body we cannot read cannot be counted as a linker.
