Where a Singapore buyer starts looking for a supplier in 2026, and which of those starts you can actually buy into
Four starting points ranked by what it costs to be present in each, with the 757 hosts two assistants reached for when asked a Singapore buying question.

A Singapore buyer starts in one of four places, and they are not equally purchasable. A referral from somebody in the same industry, a Google search, an AI assistant, or a shortlist handed down by a procurement function. You can influence all four, but the cost of being present in each is wildly different, and the cheapest of the four right now is the one most Singapore suppliers have never checked.
This page ranks the four by what presence costs, and then reports what two assistants actually reached for when a Singapore buying question was put to them on 22 October 2026.
The four starts, ranked by what presence costs
| Starting point | What presence costs | How long it takes to influence |
|---|---|---|
| Industry referral | Years of delivery and one visible client base | Longest, and the least controllable |
| Google search | Auction money, or a sustained publishing programme | Weeks for paid, months for organic |
| An AI assistant | Publishing something specific enough to be quoted | Weeks, and currently uncontested in most answers |
| A procurement shortlist | Documents, registrations and references, prepared once | Immediate once the pack exists |
Two of those four are mostly administrative. A Singapore supplier who has never assembled an evidence pack is losing procurement starts for reasons that have nothing to do with the work, and that is the cheapest fix on the list.
What the assistants reached for, measured
On 22 October 2026 we put 33 batches of buying questions to ChatGPT and Gemini with Singapore written into the text of every question. The market had to go in the prompt because the search interface we use accepts a country, a language and a location parameter and ignores all three, so a Singapore reading is a Singapore reading only when the question says so. The snapshot taken that evening holds 64 blind readings, 32 on each engine, with the brand batch excluded because it names us in the question and cannot be a blind result.
Those 64 readings returned 757 distinct hosts. 161 of them carry a Singapore domain. The hosts that came back most often were marketingagency.sg in 19 readings, mediaplus.com.sg in 13, digitalmarket.sg in 12, singaporedigitalmarketing.sg in 11, digimau.com in 10, stridec.com in 9, then firstpagedigital.sg, bestseo.sg, addure.sg, digitalmarketingsingapore.com and aistudio.com.sg at 7 each.
Read that list properly. Almost none of those are large companies. They are small, Singapore specific sites whose whole subject is marketing in Singapore. That is the single most actionable thing in the dataset, because it is a describable standard rather than a budget: the sites winning these answers win by being narrowly and obviously about this market.
The international directory position, and it surprised us
Of the global directories, clutch.co appeared in 7 readings, agencies.semrush.com in 7 and goodfirms.co in 4. Singapore's own listing sites did appear, techdirectory.sg in 5 and listing.sg in 4, which is more than the global average for this category: in our earlier three market audit of 597 readings, review directories accounted for 0.8 per cent of all citations recorded.
One host in that set is worth naming because it is a mistake rather than a source. staging.clutch.co appeared in 4 of the 64 readings. That is a staging environment, and a buyer who followed it would be reading a directory's unfinished copy. Two further hosts in the raw set, ccn.web.tr and a long reverse proxy mirror of Google's developer documentation, are our own data provider's fetch infrastructure rather than publishers, and they are resolved back to the pages they serve before anything is counted.
The procurement start, and the thing it actually asks for
Across the same 64 readings, 39 distinct Singapore government hosts appeared 90 times, in 19 of the 64 readings. imda.gov.sg came up in 10, sso.agc.gov.sg in 8, pdpc.gov.sg in 5, acra.gov.sg in 4, and gebiz.gov.sg, iras.gov.sg, enterprisesg.gov.sg, mas.gov.sg and singstat.gov.sg all appeared. When a Singapore buying question has any compliance, procurement or registration edge to it, the engines go to the state before they go to a vendor.
That tells a supplier something concrete about the shortlist start. If the answer a buyer is shown leans on ACRA, IRAS and GeBIZ, then the registrations, the entity details and the invoice position are part of being found rather than part of being paid. Our page on where an Indian buyer starts looking and which channel decides what runs the same four way comparison for a market where the referral start dominates much harder, and the contrast is useful if you sell into both.
Questions about how Singapore buyers find suppliers
Is Google still the first stop here
For search it is effectively the only stop. Our page on what digital marketing services cover for a business selling inside Singapore carries the StatCounter share for this market, and search work here is Google work. What has changed is that the search is no longer the only machine answering the question.
Do Singapore buyers use LinkedIn to find suppliers
They use it to check one. In the 64 readings, LinkedIn hosts appeared only once or twice each, so it is not where the engines look for a recommendation. Treat the company page as a credibility check that happens after the name is already in hand.
How do I find out which start my own enquiries come from
Ask on the enquiry form in plain words and keep the answers for a quarter. Analytics attributes the click, not the conversation that produced it, and a referral that ended in a branded search is recorded as search.
Is being in a directory worth paying for in Singapore
A local listing is cheap and appeared in this dataset, so take the free tier where one exists. Paying a directory as a channel strategy is harder to defend on these numbers than publishing one specific page about the thing you sell in this market.
What is the quickest start to influence
The procurement one, because it is a document job. After that, the assistant answers, because in most of them there is nothing to displace yet.
The start that currently has no incumbent
In 26 of those 64 Singapore readings the engines named no business at all. They answered the buying question in generalities and handed the reader nothing to contact. That is a large minority of the data rather than the biggest share of it. The engines named somebody in the other 38, usually a local agency, so a Singapore buyer starting with an assistant is more often handed a competitor than handed nothing. AI Knows Us watches a fixed list of your own buying questions across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews, so a Singapore supplier can see which of its own questions sit in that empty bucket rather than guessing. The free scan needs no sign up, which makes this the one start on the list you can check before deciding whether it matters to you.
