Getting a UAE business named when a buyer asks an assistant for a recommendation, built from the pages two engines actually used

Across 102 UAE buyer questions put to ChatGPT and Gemini on 30 October 2026, the answers were assembled from 385 hosts of which 121 were .ae domains and 29 were UAE government sites, so the route in is other people's pages before it is your own.

Do four things, in this order. Let the search crawlers in, because an access setting silently removes you from one engine's answers entirely. Make your own entity facts identical everywhere they appear, which is the company name, the licensed trade name, the address, the phone number, the service area and the price. Get onto the third party pages the engines actually read for your category in this country, which in our reading were overwhelmingly UAE supplier sites, UAE directories and UAE government pages rather than global publications. And read the answer monthly, because an answer that changed is the only evidence any of it worked. That is the whole method, and the fourth step is the one UAE businesses skip.

What we measured, and the denominators that go with it

On 30 October 2026 we put 216 questions to ChatGPT and Gemini with the United Arab Emirates fixed in the prompt text, 72 blind pipelines across 36 batches, and filtered them to 102 genuine buyer questions. No prompt in those batches named our own site, because naming yourself in a prompt manufactures the answer you were hoping to read.

  • 70 of the 102 buyer questions produced a named vendor. An engine was willing to recommend somebody.
  • 32 produced no name at all. The answer stayed in generalities.
  • We were named 0 times and cited 0 times across the 72 blind readings. That is a finding about us and it is published here because the method is worth more than the result.
  • 385 distinct hosts appear behind the answers to those 102 questions. 121 carry a .ae domain and 29 are UAE government domains, including u.ae, mof.gov.ae, tdra.gov.ae, dubaidet.gov.ae, moec.gov.ae, investindubai.gov.ae and nma.gov.ae.

The vendors the engines named most often across the whole audit were HubSpot at 15 readings, Semrush at 13, Ahrefs at 9, Otterly at 8, and Profound and Peec at 7 each. Those are global software names. For the batch asking how a business gets mentioned by assistants, the single named vendor was Semrush, and the hosts behind the answers were a mix of Google and OpenAI documentation, academic sources, and UAE agency sites including growaxis.net, mutant.ae, digitalgravity.ae, digidot.ae, digitalarabia.ae and asad.ae.

Why the host list changes the plan

If an assistant's answer about your category is assembled from your own site, publishing on your own site is the work. If it is assembled from other people's pages, publishing on your own site alone will not reach it. In this country the second is closer to the truth, and the hosts skew local in a way that is genuinely useful, because a UAE directory or a UAE government page is a target you can act on while the New York Times is not.

One caution that the record requires. Our own earlier UAE reading, published in which UAE agency to pick for AI search visibility, found 2,812 citation URLs from 1,003 distinct hosts with 743 of them cited exactly once, and concluded there is no short stable list of sources to buy your way onto. That still holds at the level of the whole market. What the per question view adds is narrower and more useful. For one buying question, the answer came out of a small set of hosts, and that set is where your category's answer is being built. The long tail is real and your question's tail is short.

How to get your own host list in an afternoon

  • Write five sentences a buyer would type, with your category and your emirate in them, and without your company name.
  • Run each on two engines and save the full answer, including the sources it shows.
  • Write down every host and sort by how often it appears across the five.
  • Anything appearing twice or more is a target. Check whether a listing is free, paid or editorial, and whether the page is kept current.
  • Repeat the five sentences monthly with the same wording, because a changed wording is a changed experiment.

The access setting that removes you from one engine's answers

OpenAI's own crawler documentation, read on 31 October 2026 at developers.openai.com, states it plainly. OAI-SearchBot is used to surface websites in search results in ChatGPT's search features, and sites that are opted out of OAI-SearchBot will not be shown in ChatGPT search answers, though they can still appear as navigational links. The same page notes that it can take about 24 hours from a robots file update for the change to be reflected.

So this is a one line check with a one day feedback loop, and it costs nothing. Read your own robots file, confirm OAI-SearchBot is not disallowed, and confirm your pages return the real article to a plain request rather than an empty shell. A UAE business whose site builds its content in the browser has a readability problem that no amount of publishing will fix, and it shows up in exactly this way.

A real example of the readability failure, found while taking this reading

imetric.net, one of the agency sites the engines cited for a UAE question, builds its headline performance figures as animated counters. Read on 31 October 2026, the served page carries 0 for reach, 0 for engagement, 0 for return on ad spend and 0 for client count. A human visitor sees the numbers. A machine reads zeros. If your proof is built the same way, your proof is not published.

The entity facts, which are dull and decisive

Make these identical in every place they appear, which means your site, your Business Profile, every directory listing, your social profiles and any UAE marketplace you sell on. The legal name as licensed, the trading name you actually use, the address in the format locals write it, one phone number, the WhatsApp number if that is your main route, the service area by emirate, opening hours, and prices in dirhams. Then date the page. An undated page tells an engine nothing about whether the fact is current, and this market changes trade names and locations more often than most.

Our page on the locale mistakes that keep a UAE business out of AI answers lists the eight specific failures and the order to fix them, and it is the companion to this page rather than a repeat of it. On whether a local domain or local hosting changes anything, we measured that separately in whether a UAE business should buy a .ae domain.

Where Google still sits in all of this

StatCounter's figures for the United Arab Emirates in September 2026, read on 31 October 2026, put Google at 93.51 per cent of search referrals, Bing at 3.94 per cent, Yandex at 1.79 per cent, Yahoo at 0.37 per cent and DuckDuckGo at 0.24 per cent. The assistant answers sit on top of that distribution rather than replacing it, which is why the same work earns both. Treat this as one programme with two readings rather than as a new channel with its own budget, and the business case gets easier rather than harder.

Questions UAE businesses ask about being named by AI assistants

How long before the answer changes

Access changes move fastest, with OpenAI's own documentation putting robots file propagation at about 24 hours. Facts you publish on your own site move next. Presence on somebody else's page moves on that site's publishing schedule, so judge a quarter by whether your host set has changed rather than by a single answer on a single day.

Should we write in Arabic as well as English

If your buyers search in Arabic, yes, and it is a content programme rather than a translation task. encore-mena.com states on its own page that its Arabic is written natively by writers based in the region rather than translated, read on 31 October 2026, which is the standard to ask for. We measured whether the language of the question changes which supplier gets named in this reading.

Is this the same as search optimisation

The technical work overlaps heavily and the measurement does not. A ranking report tells you where a page sits. An answer reading tells you whether a company gets named and which hosts the answer was built from, and in the UAE those hosts were mostly third party pages rather than the brand's own site.

Can we pay to be in the answer

Not directly, and some of the hosts behind these answers do sell placement on their own lists, which is a media decision rather than an optimisation one. Check whether a directory entry is free or paid before you treat its presence in an answer as proof that paying works.

What do we do if the answer is wrong about us

Capture it, classify what kind of wrong it is, then fix the sources in the order the engines read them. We wrote the full sequence in what to do when an AI assistant states something wrong about your UAE business.

What we sell here, and where somebody else is the better first purchase

AI Knows Us reads what ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews say about a category, shows the hosts behind each answer, and publishes pages against the questions that came back unanswered. The published UAE figures from aiknowsus.com/pricing, read on 31 October 2026, are AED 1,100 a month for 100 buyer questions watched across five engines and AED 2,200 a month for 300, and a first reading on your own domain runs before any account exists. The checkable part of that is the account requirement and the source list behind each answer, which is why both are stated rather than described.

Where a rival beats us, plainly. If you want somebody in Dubai to do the publishing and the outreach as well as the reading, qubedigital.ae publishes AED 20,200 a month for search plus generative engine work including twenty pages and ten editorial links, and a one off audit at AED 7,500, read on 31 October 2026. That is eighteen times our monthly figure and it includes work we do not do. And if your team already pays for Semrush, its SEO and AI search plans at 199 dollars and 299 dollars a month carry 50 and 100 tracked prompts a day, which is the cheaper first reading because it is already on your invoice. Semrush was also the vendor the engines named for this question, so an assistant asked today is likelier to send a UAE buyer there than to us.

How we know this

We read the assistants rather than guessing what they do. In our own audit of 1,260 saved answers from ChatGPT and Gemini across the United States, the United Kingdom and India, 82.0% of every citation landed on a site the business itself owned, and review directories took 0.7%. Counted as one domain per reading, 16,516 of 20,143.

That is the whole asymmetry: the pages you own are the pages an assistant quotes back to a buyer. See the dated readings and the method on our proof page.

Find out whether assistants name your business, on your own domain and your own buying questions.
